THS is one of those bands that I just missed when i hunkered down in the goth/industrial space between 1998 - 2013. I'd heard of them many times but never given them a real listen. Man have I been missing out. Some dang fine lyric crafting and tight tight sound. Thanks KEXP and THS for a great session.
I unfortunately only discovered Craig & The Hold Steady in early 2022 but have been devouring their whole library of songs since then, especially Craig's solo stuff. Craig has become my songwriting idol, such a craftsmen with lyrics. 💯 In some of these comments, no one mentioned a Joe Jackson reference. I bet they could be buddies lol.
They are such a great band. The Replacements, Dylan, Springsteen, Big Star and a skosh of Wilco. Amazing live in an intimate or semi intimate venue. The best bar band of the new millennium.
I love this band alot. Just no BS, goodtime music. And every track a novel about a girl, a bar, sailors and drugs. I think anyway. Can't wait to see them live.
Should of been a massive band esp with there debut album along time ago but like all rock bands there content to be unknown and think it’s a crime to be arrogant big headed rich famous and popular. Rocks not dead there’s just no bands anymore that are from the right (wrong) side of the tracks anymore and all boring! Yawn need a rebellious wild rock n roll band again last one was oasis before then nirvana before then guns n roses and they all got BIG coz of there rock n roll attitude which the rappers have now and hold the rockers talk bout books climate and coldplay
Nope. It doesn't allow a fan like me - 50 yrs old with a job - an ability to see the band. I can't take 2 days off to see one show in a major city. I saw them in a theater in my city a few years ago and it was amazing. It's best for the band, I get it, but big fans like me who really can't take 2 days off work get shut out.
It's 2am, I'm drinking whiskey... Of course I've ended up listening to The Hold Steady for the first time in over a decade.

Stumbled upon this when i was stuck between stations.....it reminds me of a band i knew like 12 years ago
When I think about back then, most nights are kind of fuzzy for me

"Goodtime music" shows you're not paying a ton of attention.
NEVER MISS THIS BAND IF THEY COME TO YOUR TOWN. YOU'LL REGRET IT LATER.

Surprisingly bad sound mixing from KEXP.
Sounds a bit rushed, pity.

Vincent J. Rubio

Weekend road trips. They usualy run the gigs Friday/Sat. I get it that creates challenges but life is fun if you find a way.
