I lived for a year in Monterey (on the peak of the Presidio in Army barracks learning Russian). The weather was amazing. Never too hot like it would be over the ridge in Salinas in the summer. What a great place.
About Brando, how did he age so much between 1961 and being the Godfather just 12 years later?

Bad diet. Drinking. Possibly psychotropic drugs that cause weight gain. Lack of exercise due to an illness? The sand things that undo anyone. Possibly insomnia which is caused by alcoholism and Severe Stress, all of which can cause obesity. A very difficult family life. His son Was convicted of murder. The vicissitudes of life spare no one. Beauty and fame are ephemera when facing grief and loss of family, His intelligence and talent sustained him to the last but those could not keep him young, strong, beautiful and popular forever. Keep living.

It was the character he played Allen. He did not really look that old. He was made up and padded out to play Don Corleone. Look at any picture of him in 1972 you will see. look:

There are even some "before and after" pictures of his make up. Jeanette his son was convicted of manslaughter not murder. And that was 18 years later. In 1990.

15:34 Why didn't he just follow behind the horse on foot?

This is not my favorite Western. Its a bit unintellectual and slow to my taste. Ive seen a better one that can display intellectuality, namely Cimino's Heaven's Gate. In the case of Marlon Brando, i honestly feel he looks bored behind the eyes here although im not criticising his acting. Not for him trying so well and Miriam Colon, god, what a good performance she can pull off. Shes the best asset of this movie. But the story is weaker than i have come to expect.

The opening music and credits stink of cheesy westerns. However , it turns into a worthwile story with realistic screenplay and acting.

A crappy western. The best scene─ Brando's Mexican hand servant and he parting ways. Carl Malden was as inappropriately cast as a western character as that overdyed mustache he sported looked on him.
