Great video! Thank you so much! I've been up to the false summit and explored the saddle between the summits but never did hike up to the true summit. But I absolutely love this hike. I wore great hiking boots with 2 pairs of socks. I also used hiking poles which helped more on the steep descent. And I chugged a Rockstar energy drink just before so I found this trail fun and easy. One of my faves. The views are superb. This mountain (these mountains) are magical and magnificent!
Thanks for your comments! It looks like you're doing all the right things and will be standing on the true summit soon. The stretch between the false summit and the true summit is a lot easier than it looks. I agree, this is a magical area with a lot of major reference points in the distance, in all directions. This adventure delivers among the greatest rewards per mile hiked of any adventure in the area. Enjoy many more!
So Black Mesa then Frenchman back to back, nice! You crush it out there, David! I did this today for the first time. My plan was to do the out and back, but that eastern scree slope was beckoning me! 🤣 At around 11:27 there's a hiker in the distance. That's about where I made the descent. It turned out to be an interesting loop hike. If you want, I'll send you the Relive. 👍👊💯
Way to go Glenn! Black Mesa is one of the most spectacular views out there, and the Eastern scree slope is fun and challenging. Yes, send the relive! I've been stuck lately working out a Juniper Peak route. Weekly adventures there, but not yet to the summit. Refining the course. Hopefully this week will do it! You've been my only added videos during the Juniper Peak trials. After Juniper, it's Lovell Canyon to fill in the gaps in the mid-Upper Crest Ridgeline, then Mt. Wilson! South side of Damsel Peak is also on the short list. Lots of fun out there!
Interesting Frenchman loop idea. Just looked at 11:27 in the video. I wondered that day what it might be like to turn it into a loop. What was the other side of the loop like?
@@lasvegasareatrails The topography on the other side was a bit more gulchy and hilly than I expected. It looked smoother from above. But it made the hike more interesting and gave me more of a workout. Going down the scree was similar to the scree slope that goes to Mummy Mt, perhaps a bit steeper, but nothing too crazy. I sent you the Relive. I'll send some pics as well. 👍👊💯😎
