Ah, I remember back then flashing a bunch of roms on my S4 from stock based to CM based and back to stock based. Dang I really, really miss those famous CyanogenMod themes. I would settle for stock nowadays if Xiaomi would deliver a good stock rom for once.

7:57 - Muta you don't need 52GB of RAM to build Android, you can do it very slowly on 8GB with around 12GB of swap or 17GB of RAM with around 4GB of swap, heck Google even tell you in the build system that 16 is enough.

You guys might already aware from Muta's tweet, but Android source code, when fully built, flash ready, could take up to 100 GB or so of storage. For comparison sake, Unreal Engine 4 source code, fully built, development ready, takes up around 150 GB of storage. This huge usage of storage is common among software development, and the size is way smaller in the binary only form. So yeah, not only do you need to prep up a huge RAM and beefy CPU, you'd also need a spacy storage (you have to have a fresh SSD for this due to intense read-writing). It's a software development thing.

20:38 from a former android rom maintainer (not developer) you can actually use the -j$(nproc --all) to get it to build with all your cpu threads and optionally, you can setup ccache (which is caching of commonly built c files in android) to dramatically speed up builds after your first build. The first build will store all of the c files in a directory (back in 2016, I had a 256gb ssd and a 1tb hdd and i stored the source on the hdd and the ccache on my /home/user/.ccache directory) and after the first build, every build would go from like 1.5 hours down to 35 minutes. Mind you this was when android was 50gb of storage for source, but the longest part was downloading the initial branch of android that would take the longest, but after some optimizations like I listed above, it went so much faster.
You can unlock the bootloader of Samsung phones, if you go into download mode and hold the volume up key to unlock the bootloader. You do however, have to enable oem unlocking in your Developer options. There are a few ROMS for the S20 which I have used. It's just more of a pain in the ass to do it. And because I live in the UK, I got the Exynos model, meaning that I can't just install any ROM I want.
I have a pixel 4 and I absolutely love it, especially the fact that it gets updates first, definitely something that lg isn't known very well for.., but I do enjoy the fact that u can flash ur own os which I used to be into but I just gave up and let the tech overlords finger me cus I love the convineince
Erik Finman explained in an interview that part of the higher price comes from parts specifically sourced so that they could avoid shady supply chains, which is why it's not completely part for part with the phone it looks like. Now whether or not that's believable is another story, would probably be more trustworthy if he made the operating system opensource, although its essentially a forked derivative using code from both Graphene and Lineage OS

You guys might already aware from Muta's tweet, but Android source code, when fully built, flash ready, could take up to 100 GB or so of storage. For comparison sake, Unreal Engine 4 source code, fully built, development ready, takes up around 150 GB of storage. This huge usage of storage is common among software development, and the size is way smaller in the binary only form.
So yeah, not only do you need to prep up a huge RAM and beefy CPU, you'd also need a spacy storage (you have to have a fresh SSD for this due to intense read-writing). It's a software development thing.
Thus a new generation of technology has born.
I probably will never do this, because I have a Samsung & only 16gigs of RAM. But I watched the whole video to learn stuff from uncle M ❤

20:38 from a former android rom maintainer (not developer) you can actually use the -j$(nproc --all) to get it to build with all your cpu threads and optionally, you can setup ccache (which is caching of commonly built c files in android) to dramatically speed up builds after your first build. The first build will store all of the c files in a directory (back in 2016, I had a 256gb ssd and a 1tb hdd and i stored the source on the hdd and the ccache on my /home/user/.ccache directory) and after the first build, every build would go from like 1.5 hours down to 35 minutes. Mind you this was when android was 50gb of storage for source, but the longest part was downloading the initial branch of android that would take the longest, but after some optimizations like I listed above, it went so much faster.

You can unlock the bootloader of Samsung phones, if you go into download mode and hold the volume up key to unlock the bootloader. You do however, have to enable oem unlocking in your Developer options. There are a few ROMS for the S20 which I have used. It's just more of a pain in the ass to do it. And because I live in the UK, I got the Exynos model, meaning that I can't just install any ROM I want.

Erik Finman explained in an interview that part of the higher price comes from parts specifically sourced so that they could avoid shady supply chains, which is why it's not completely part for part with the phone it looks like. Now whether or not that's believable is another story, would probably be more trustworthy if he made the operating system opensource, although its essentially a forked derivative using code from both Graphene and Lineage OS
