The trick used by Tuxedo Mask is not exactly a yo-yo. It is a traditional top that is spun by a thick string. I used to play with it when I was a kid many years ago. See how the top is spun:

One region is famous for such fighting tops, but children in many places used to play with tops before computer games and animes. 🙂
