  • Here is a video unboxing of a new Neptune Trident system for testing alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. I do a quick overview of the setup process and share my thoughts on the accuracy of the product. I also express some concerns about availability of testing reagents.

    Great video. We have already solved the reagent leaking issue a couple of weeks back. We have a handle on the calibration solution leakage problem and it should be solved very soon. As for Canada, it is unfortunate that there is so much red tape and fees between our friendly countries - certainly not the promise of NAFTA, eh? That said, we will soon have distribution of reagents solved such that you should be able to buy them at LFS in Canada. Look for this in the next couple of months.

      Thanks Neptune; glad to see the progress on leaky reagents. looking forward to seeing the reagents at LFS in Canada - that would be great. Its been less than a week and I am really enjoying the data pouring out of the trident. its opening up a portal to your tank that you just don't get by testing once weekly

      Ive found it necessary to calibrate the trident every time I open a new box of reagent. I think you'll be suprised at the difference after you calibrate. This fluctuation has really made me see the necessity in sending it back to Neptune Systems for an "update" after a year or two. Congrats on your Trident. I got mine at midnight on the first release. I was number 86 LOL

    Nice video! I spoke with Lou Ekus from Tropic Marin about the correlation of alk, calcium and magnesium. He explained it as a triangle. Whereas if the alkalinity is rising it will suppress the calcium. And vice versa. Can’t remember how exactly magnesium fits into the puzzle. If you call him at Tropic Marin USA he usually answers the phone. I really enjoy your videos. Especially the scientific data you’ve presented. Thanks !

    The only BIG thing I didn't like about the trident was the amount of testing it does each day. 4 times and you cant change it to lower in able to save on the reagent. Why Neptune? I want to be able to test 3 to 4 times a week and not 28 times a week. $$$$

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  5 років тому +3

      they mention that this is related to lifespan of their reagents; there may be some truth to that, but it could just be a ploy to sell more reagents. I think testing a couple of times a day is helpful if you want to inform your daily dosing though, so i don't mind the 4 times a day testing - but then again, i do love my data and charts :)

    I noticed that you have your Trident on the floor next to the stand, below the sump waterline. Any issues in its operation? Everything I’ve read on the forums suggests that you’re supposed to place the unit above the water level of the sump or wherever it is that you’re drawing your test water sample from.

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  5 років тому +1

      very interesting. that is actually not mentioned in the installation video from neptune; ua-cam.com/video/4OOfuXuBt5Y/v-deo.html they actually place the unit on the floor of the cabinet beside the sump. the do warn here that the sample intake line shouldn't be 2 feet above the trident ua-cam.com/video/FAIbhaEsGpI/v-deo.html ; but yes, safer if trident is above sample line. i will look into getting a cabinet or a table that i can place it on.

      It totally ruined the look of the set.
      Secondly, I though triton was a controller, turned out to be just a monitor. And its look like I'll be having issue with reagents supply.
      Thirdly.. this system of mine is old. Everything was tweak. Skimmer has Float switch to control water level. It also has timer that is offset with feeding... Refugium... reactor, everything has been modified. Phyto system is also adding to constantly cultivate Phyto and inject into the system. Since I share all of my reactors with same return pump, water from reactor are directed into sock filter to collect any escape medias. I added a venturi injector chamber, so that all dosing will go straight into the main tank without overlasp with reactor and go back to skimmer.
      Energy bar don't really give me what I needed. The reason I get it was because I think it can tells me when something not working...
      BUT... My hope is ruined as well.
      My tank is 4 meter long, and all electrical wiring is one side of side that is completely full. Not an inch of space left.
      So Neptune was installed on the other side, of the tank, as cable of engergy is too short, it cannot reach the other side of tank. I try to USB extension.. it keep shutting off as cable was too long. So I do not have anything plug into engergy bar.
