When it comes to looks I would rate it the most bland looking of them all.

Whats wrong with a car that works? Not fun? its a hell of a lot more fun than standing at the side of the road in the middle of the winter (or at any other time of the year for that matter) with a car that just broke down. There is a joy in knowing that the car will never break down that (at least for me) more than makes up for it being boring to drive.

A Polo? Really? It's dreary, expensive, unreliable, deeply uninteresting and sucks all enthusiasm out of its owner. A Fabia has the exact same issues, but at least it's cheaper.

I have absolutely no clue of what you are talking about. I am a Polo owner and comparing a Mazda2 or a Fabia with it reveals your ignorance on the mather. I say this because I checked all of them before buying the Polo...
Rageofflamesful Dreary is technically subjective, but a Polo is very, very dull. Considering the cost of equipment, it's pricey, quite a few of its engines have questionable reliability, it's too common and unimaginative to be even remotely interesting and I'm very impressed if a Polo can stir any enthusiasm in your spirit.

115 bhp and everything you could possibly want: 17,855 pounds, This is the most expensive Mazda2.

110 bhp (less), non-metallic red (as opposed to metallic 'Soul Red'), no leather seats, 20,345 pounds. R-line is necessary to get a comparable engine.
The 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines are known for timing chain issues, the 1.2 TDI is known for a myriad of issues.
The Polo is at least more practical, but it's still far from cavernous.
***** Certainly there is a reason that the Mazda isn't as popular as the VW. The Polo rides on the reputation it no longer deserves, being bought largely by the uninformed masses.

I think that the fact that the Kia Rio is at the top three of it's class for the second year in a row is no surprise. Style, efficiency, space, price, generous equipment, relatively good handling , long warranty and of course great reliability are some things that this car does have. Sure there are better cars out there but a few come with all the above. And it's a huge step forward for a company that practically had no presence in this particular category!
When you consider reliability and cost of repair this list is completly reversed.

Alright CarBuyer, i've always liked your reviews, but.. - In the video of "Kia Rio vs Polo vs Ford Fiesta" the Fiesta Won against the Polo, but in this video it's reversed? why`?

I believe that Skoda New Fabia 1.2 TSI will pop into top 3 from 2015 onwards.
Had done the test drive it along with VW Polo 1.2 TSI and Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost in last 2 weekends.
From interior side , the equipment Polo and New Fabia offering much better martial and function, more features etc. Polo and New Fabia using the same engine, however New Fabia offering more features than Polo, and the price on Polo SE model even higher than top range model of New Fabia, also less drive fun and much more nosier than expected.
Personally, after test drive, I prefer Skoda New Fabia than the other two rivals, less money, great driving experience, high quality and great value for what you paying for, although the Skoda brand comes as cheap brand in public, but seriously i strongly suggest get a text drive then you will see the difference.
what happened to the Skoda Fabia better than some of the cars here I do think that the polo is the best all round small car. The Audi A1 is good but just to much money
Bought a Polo facelift this summer with a 1.2 BlueMotion and it runs and looks perfect. The interior is top notch and the ride is fantastic both in and out of the city. Though not as aggressive in drive style and design as the Ford Fiesta, it's still a head-turner. And, on the upside, WVs tend to depreciate much slower than Fords and French cars so when you sell it in 5 years or so, you can still get back a good part of your initial investment.
They are so expensive though i would buy a little Corsa instead , i know they are not as reliable but here in 2022 i can buy a 2013 Corsa for £2 grand , a 2013 VW Polo would cost at least a grand more and wont be as fast

The best *very* small car.
We rented a 208 in Majorca and I found the steering wheel obscuring the dials annoying too...then I found the column adjuster and realised it wasn't actually a problem. Took me 3 days to finally think of that, mind you.
The ford festa is really good, one of my college mate owns on its 5 seat but there is 7 of use that need to get it so we can stuff the 2 smallest in the boot and the 2 smallest are about 5,10'' - 6 foot and even with all that weight it's is still very quick for a 1.25
I'm actually really impressed with the new Skoda Fabia and this is coming from a man who turned down a free Vauxhall Corsa.
The polo is ugly, expensive and unreliable. Peugeot 208 for me!

Yet you still gave it 3rd place above the Mini? Despite the Mini's drawbacks it's a hell of a lot nicer to drive than the Rio which I reckon is quite important in a 'which is the best' type test.
I don't own a Mini or a Rio but I've driven both and the Rio was utter pants!

petter4544 you're wrong. This was their opinion based on many factors. The 'most reliable car' video was based solely on the JD Power survey but not this one. Maybe YOU should listen.
For the price of mini, u can buy a well equipped kia optima
The list leans heavily on price:quality/performance. The Mini is quite expensive here where I live and can be almost 20K difference from the top two.

Nahh in Malaysia we use mostly was Perodua Myvi. Can use it to race, easy parking, can even use it to fly. Some accident i don't know how they just end up on roof of house with no higher ground nearby. Can drift and also use it as bumper car. Annnnnd also very durability And body quite hard though had some harder crash just knock back the plastic and u are ready to go xD ohh and also extremely cheap.

Love your reviews Mat but you're wrong about the Peugeot 208 steering wheel obscuring the dials....I've got one , and the steering wheel is very small and designed to look 'over' the top at the dials. You can move it up or down and at 5' 2"ft tall I can see the dials completely. It's a gorgeous steering wheel with a sporty feel....just thought I'd say. Keep up brilliant work.
This is a new review but already out of date. You have the new Skodâ Fabia, the new Hyundai i20, the updated Vauxhall Corsa with new engines, a new Mazda 2 all been recently launched and they all look very promising. Probably more that I'm forgetting to mention. You'll probably review the new i20 and make it your carbuyer car of the year like you did with the i10. You should have got the 2015 models and then decided your top 10.
P.S. I'm not a Hyundai nut . . . I drive the car you placed 2nd here

Where is the Vauxhall Corsa? I have driven one for 5 years plus. Highly reliable, nippy, cheap to run and insure and comfortable on back roads and on the motorway. What more could you want?
Yeah thats what i was thinking as today in 2022 you can get a 2013 Corsa 1.4 SXI for around £2 grand , a VW Polo would cost a grand more and wont be as good to drive

Well, I've driven both the Peugeot 208 and 308, both of which have that dial setup. For me, the setup worked fine and no matter how I set the steering wheel, the dials were never obscured. For reference I'm around 6ft.

Still, it is a better car than the Polo and would be my second choice if not a Mini in this list.
Polo’s are bland in every possible way and there’s no reason unless your boring that anyone should buy one
if the center console in the fiesta was better, maybe, but until the change that it's a no-no for me. personally i don't think the fiesta and the polo are different in terms of excitment.

Polo is far from most comfortable it has, like most VAG cars, firm suspensions. Most confortables cars would be french cars like the Citroen C3 or the Clio.

Some of the cars mentioned here are unreliable. Like almost all car reviews nowadays they completely ignore RELIABILITY.
I owned my first car about a year ago and Im very disappointed (it is a nissan march/micra), because it is my first car I dont know i f it is spected to hear a lot of cracky noises from the dashboard when I pass trough pavement imperfections in some cars??? Or maybe my car was not well built...

this list is rubbish and frankly, i expect more from carbuyer. For one thing, VW seats are hard as a bus bench, the visibility is not good and the back seats are crammed (those are pretty important in my mind).
