- Cruising Georgia’s ICW to Jacksonville
We enjoy cruising Georgia’s slow but scenic ICW on the way to Florida. On this journey, we encounter a rough night on anchor, skinny water and a submarine base.

We li ed on cumberland island across from kings bay navy base. That’s a demagnetization area the subs go through.
After 911 we were coming back from town to go home and coast guard came up to our boat as we got closer to that area- we had to make a turn to go to our dock on cumberland across from it. Scary time- we were just doing our normal.
It’s cool when you have a huge sun come right up beside you.
The Harvey garage use to drop anchor off cumberland every year… this was over 20 years ago for many years. Glad it’s back
Love your videos!
Awe, thanks!!
That was a nice cruise on the ICW.
We always enjoy Georgia, and we're not in a hurry!
Great video! Good cross section of the trip. I’m trying to learn more about, lodging along the way…off boat. And, how do you know where it is legal to just anchor down for the night…learning for our future trip. Prob SC to Key Biscayne area. Enjoyyyyyyy Every Day! Dan
Thank you Dan! Very few places you can't anchor, as long as you're outside of the channel. Get yourself a copy of the Waterway Guide as is is very helpful for this trip.
Last question,,,do y’all use A/C much. Necessity?
@@runltdan We do, but only when really needed! We prefer to not run it only because the boat feels 'closed up' and it can be a little noisy. Once it gets above 80-85 degrees, we'll kick it on and be glad for it!
Enjoy your videos. You guys look more healthy and fit then you did 1 year ago! Calm Seas!

Thank you so much for noticing! We have been working hard at eating well and exercise. :)
I think that's a degiuser for magnetism, we never went into one of those when I was in the Navy as I was on an older class submarine, USS Tecumseh SSBN 628, out of Charleston SC.
Yes, someone else told me the same thing - fascinating!
The long metal "arbor" you saw outside the submarine base is used to demagnetize the subs returning from their missions. You can read more information by Googling US Submarine Degaussing.
Ron, thanks for letting us know. I’ll pass this on to my ill-informed friend! 🤣

np... glad to help
I can't imagine how much marine diesel is going to be in the coming days/weeks/months.
Willie, you and me both - trying to not think about it! :)
Im surprised they let you get that close to a sub! It was great to meet you guys at the Miami Boat Show.
I know Ive asked this in a different way but when you stay at those free docks, do you have power? If not, do you just run off the house battery? Im wondering because of my planned trip down south this summer and fall.Keep the videos coming.
great to meet you Julio. There was one point where the channel veered towards the sub, and with the dredger on my port, I think that caused the patrol boat to approach!
Can i ask u guys what u think about 396 carver 2001 with diesel engines 129k one owner asking your opinion as I'm currently looking for a liveaboard
Submarine wash... who knew?
I have now learned it is a de-magnetizer!
