    You are a good teacher. Your demonstrations and narrations are clear and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you for the kind words. I try to explain things the way they are in my head.

    Thank you for demonstrating these all side by side. This is exactly the sort of attention to detail that I find interesting.

      One could say obsessive behavior LOL. And there are more, these are just the ones that I thought were most common and that I could fit in 5 minutes.

      WatchBarbaraKnit Would anyone else be interested in why a designer might choose one over another in any particular pattern? Or is this just far too obsessive for most people? ;) And have you made a video about matching L/R decreases? I find I am constantly altering or wishing to alter decreases in patterns (esp feather and fan or waves that should be symmetrical) so that the L & R decreases are mirror images of each other. (I am also the type of knitter who tries obsessively to match cast-on to bind-off. A line up of those side by side would be awesome!)

    Thanks. I had read a long time ago that knitting through the back loop was the same as ask but often wondered about that. Now I know the difference.

      When you are knitting lace the visual difference can be negligible. But when you are a control freak like me ... well I like things to match and it doesn't match k2tog.

    Thank you. It is very helpful to see these variations in close proximity to one another!

    Great tutorial! I love the last two methods, especially.

      LOL, that's funny. I never use the last two methods.

    that was very helpful. Looked like the SSK was a bit tighter in appearance than the other three. These are great to know. Thanks@!

      You should try them yourself. It might be tighter when I do it but with your knitting style it might be different. Knitting is all about finding what works for you.

    Thank you so much more always to learn I can see your stitching really well, but now to much I want to knit :)

    Thank you for the demonstrations. I'm a total newbie knitter. I don't understand why the yarn over before two of the decreases you did. Aren't you in effect no longer decreasing? You took away a stitch but added it back with the yarn over?

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  6 років тому

      For a newbie knitter you are very observant! Yes, that is exactly what I did because I didn't want to change the stitch count. Using increases in the form of yarn overs paired with decreases is what makes lace in knitting. Of course, decreases can be used to actually decrease and shape, but for the vast majority of what I do it is more about the lace!

      Oh good. I was pretty sure you were doing lace (the holes gave it away) but I wasn't. I've been knitting for a little over a year and I just learned how to pick up dropped stitches (still scares the bejeesus out of me) so I still consider myself a newbie. Thanks for confirming.

    I guess I am having a hard time "reading" your knitting and seeing the differences. Maybe for the next stitch demo video you could use a different color yarn to showcase the specific stitch and how it lies??

      I'm not really sure how I would do that but I will think about how I could.
