- This time on WORA 4x4 we take a trip out to the Coola Out Station for a review on one of the most used 4 Wheel Drive accessories!
So, sit back, relax and watch as we review the same X-Bull tracks from 4 YEARS ago!
We're taking a look at these cheap 4wd, 4x4 recovery tracks from X-Bull. See how they compete with the big names like MaxTrax and Tredpro. Be sure to check out our 4 year later review to see how they hold up long term.
great review!!! this is exactly the long term review ive been looking for! thanks so much.
Great review! Thanks! The only negative of the X-Bulls are that they don’t stack as tight as the Maxtrax but $80 vs $300 I’ll make room for the fatter boards!
Ive never owned a set of maxttax, just the same set of xbull. so thats interesting in how they stack.
@@wora4x47 Ive never had Maxtrax either but I handled them. They are thinner but like I said they aren't $300 thinner!
Honest long term review . Well done ,, love it !!
thank you for the great info. I have not really used mine, but its good to know they will be ok. I did have one chip off the lip like yours in below freezing weather. I think that may be the trade off. They seem to "bridge" slightly better than max tracks, but the glass nylon might be brittle in the winter.
this is great. I actually bought a set of x Bulls after your first video four years ago. I havent needed to use them yet but I know the day is coming.
Thanks for the long term review. I just ordered a pair of the Gen 3s after watching your video.
great long term real world use review.
very good review. the cracking is also partly due to UV ray exposure. UV is always hard on plastics.
My new Gen3 says material is “nylon”, but I’m skeptical
@@cluek9780 - nylon, polyester, polypropylene. I forgot which one they say is better, but I would check to see what maxx traxx claims their's is made from. they're supposed to be the best.
Plastics can easily be made UV-proof. Examples of strong plastics include the classic blue poly drums. I've had several outdoors in all weathers since 2006 with no degradation.
@@obfuscated3090 - true. we used empty white 35 gallon drums (laundry detergent) to collect spent brass on the ranges. those things lasted for years with no visible degradation. that was outside in the desert year-round; rain, snow, 110* full sun, etc.
Very useful and made me go out buy these. Bought 2 pairs.
Thanks for the feedback. Its now 2021 and mine are still going strong.
Awesome review I was considering buying some since my jeep was stolen with all my gear attached to it and I simply can’t afford to go by Max trax again At least not at the moment not for a while so I was looking for something budget friendly for now until I can build up this 4runner I have now Sucks having to start all over again had my jeep I’ll built up lifted locked winched and some sorry ass thief or thieves stole it never been found So thank you for the real in the field long-term review
That sucks. Hope those buggers get whats coming to them!
These are the second generation x bull I've just got the 3rd generation delivered today 2 sets for $169 AUD.
Two sets of max tracks would be over $500. Thanks for the review
Second gen? Only thought they had the one. The more you know. Thats a pretty good price the seem to be getting cheaper the more i hear of them. Exellent set of tracks for the price.
Just got a set of 3rd gen $60usd for a pair. Will definitely use with my 2wd(with locking diff) on the beach soon.
Love your style mate!
Great review mate,
Well done sir.
A video I’ve been looking for. I’m gonna order 4 to have just in case. It’s better to have and not need than need and not have. I don’t 4x4 much but ya never know what may come
Good idea. And for somthing that you may or may not need, and or loose. You dont want to spend big bucks.
Done deal mate, buying 4 of these and it will still be cheaper than two Maxtrax.
In USA, MAXXTRAX are waaaaay overpriced IMHO.
I just received two pair (4) of Gen3 X-Bull treads for 147$USD. Great investment for *anyone, not just the budget minded!
Each is abt 2.5” thick.
I’ll be applying numerous short bolts with nuts, methinks.
I DO wish they were more NESTable, especially for mounting/using double+thickness. In a perfect design, one PAIR could then be abt 3” thick (Four treads could thus be under 5” thick), stiffer when stacked, easier to mount, and a great deal more aerodynamic.
Given their current profile when stacked (approx , I’m tempted to fill the gaps with a pourable resin (maybe polyester or nylon) to make them stiffer even when stacked.
Is there any way to reinforce them with fibreglass? Or spray bedliner to help make them stronger?
Interesting theory, never really thought about it. I guess the best way would be to somhow rivet alloy sheets in there but for all that mucking around. May as well buy a new set. Unless you want to get creative with some of that metal adhesive glue stuff from china. That stuff is un real but still probably crack around it.
@@wora4x47 I'm up in Canada and I had bought a set but they cracked right down the middle the first time I used them in around minus 15C° if you lineX something like paper it becomes somewhat indestructible, I'll be buying another set with some bed liner to try this out.
@@johnjames1267 yes, but the only thing that Bedliner would do is keep-off the UV, right? I’ll keep mine in the supplied bags
@@wora4x47 bolt-mount two 36”(?) angle irons in the seams? They don’t stack tight enough to prohibit that, and I’ll be using them to level as well, so I need em stiff. (that’s what SHE said)
Nice job
So, long story short my bank screwed up and I ended up with three sets of these? Should I keep all six, or sell a set?
Keep them for spares? If you do a silly thing like me and hit the end of the track with a high lift jack. At least you have a replacement.
Good stuff Chris, well worth the $$
Sweet tracks man!! I shoulda hosed them down, so off the character
Fairly expensive here in Europe (france) 120€, around 200 Australian $...can't really understand why twice as much.. maybe that the demand us not that high over here?
That sounds silly. Might be onto somthing about the demand. Would hate to see the price of maxtrax for you blokes if thats the case.
You are paying hefty taxes in Europe for recovery tracks.
@@thedetective8150 VAT here is 20%. Not much more than other products. Does not entirely explain the x2 ratio...
I know this guy. He's the maker of the X-bull!
Who's the maker of xbull?
why does this video look like it's from the 80's?
Because its taken with a jvc camcorder made back in 2010 ish.
x-bull is an australian company but the tracks are probably made in china i don't know.
They are definitely made in China it's a very big print on the box
