Glad you gave a full review of both pros and cons even though it's sponsored, other you tubers will just say how great the product is without mentioning downsides when it's sponsored, like Unbox Therapy.
Having had the E340 for a week as an 'upgrade' from the S330. The audio sounds like its underwater in comparison to the S330. It sounds muffled & doesn't pick up background noise as clear, while cars driving past sound like a rocket firing past. Eufy tell me they expect to roll out a firmware update in 2 weeks to fix it. Colour nightvision only works if you have the LEDs turned on, not with Optimal Infrared Night Vision or Off settings. If you have a porch light you will get colour vision if you turn off the infrared top & bottom lights. When you use the LEDs you will get 2/3 weeks charge (will be less in winter), whereas i got over two months with the S330 during summer & just over a month in winter. The Delivery Guard kept giving me false triggers in windy conditions esp when its facing plant pots & bushes that move in the wind. So i turned it off as next to useless. The activity zone doesn't have an ignore zone on the E340, you can only select the active area, so maybe the AI filters it out? The Radar Zone sensitivity for each angle is not a feature on the E340. You can only select the sensitivity from 1 to 7 for all areas it covers. Setting it at maximum setting 7 can sometimes pick up movement from 22ft (6 meters) & other times it triggers at 7ft (2 metres). Somewhat inconsistent. The 2K resolution is on par with the S330 with just slightly better infrared night vision. However the E340 camera is a little more zoomed out & the package view area is a bit smaller in pic in pic landscape mode. The positives are the removable battery with a usb-c so i can swap them up & keep the doorbell on the door. No separate batteries are available yet. The LEDs are useful if lightning up a dark porch but expect to charge it more often. But overall im not convinced its a worthwhile upgrade coming from the S330, maybe if it had 4K resolution. The on board 8GB memory isnt much use as i use the Homebase 3 for recordings where i added a 1TB SSD. Ill see how updates improve things.
@@SpazerangerEufy follow up, they are satisfied that their update has fixed the mic pick up issue. But that wasn't the main issue. It's the background suppression software that in comparison to the S330 sounds worst, muffled like it's underwater. The S330 clearly has better clarity. "We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. We have analyzed your new video and observed that the audio pickup of your doorbell is functioning normally at this time. Under normal circumstances, the doorbell has a clear voice pickup distance of 2 meters. Considering the proximity of your house to the road, the latest firmware version has significantly reduced the impact of external noise on voice pickup."
do you have an updated opinion on this comment? I’m looking to replace our ring camera doorbell to eufy, I’m lost which one to purchase. hoping for prime day deals
Thanks for another great review. The only reason I haven’t replaced my Arlo doorbell with Eufy is they don’t offer a wired doorbell that will ring my mechanical chime, continuous power from the doorbell transformer, and record to the Homebase 3. They make that and I’m in!
@russelseward9616 The E340 video doorbell does all of this now (option to ring the mechanical charm, hardwired to trickle charge the battery, connects to Homebase 3), and has event pre-record with the latest updates. Liking it so far!
You are my go to for camera testing. We currently have Ring doorbell pro which I find slow to load recording. We are building a new home and will consider the Eufy system . Hopefully they integrate the needed improvements you pointed out .
Subscribed to you because I love your videos, discovered you yesterday and binge-watched like 5 of them. I'm watching you from Ontario, Canada thanks for your honest reviews!
Do you recommend having a home base? I know that it records without it, but does it automatically overwrite itself? I know you lose the facial recognition feature without home base. Love your videos!
There is a software update that allows this camera to have 4 second pre recording under General>Storage>Pre-Recording. It requires existing hardwire power.
@@kimchi_taco it’s a great camera. It doesn’t have 24/7 recording, so if something happened at your neighbor’s across the street, you would not be able to record that, but prerecording has been very excellent and does not miss action near the door and vehicle motion on my driveway.
Is it bad that I constantly hit refresh awaiting your reviews? Thank you for this video, been trying to decide if it's worth the upgrade from the s330. I will hold out for a revision or wired version. Appreciate you and all you do.
Hi LifeHackster. You’ve reviewed a few doorbell cams. The videos are great but I would like to know which one you would recommend of all the ones you’ve reviewed. Thank you so much! Kurt
Wyze just came out with the version 2 of their doorbell, which seems like a really good improvement on paper with the addition of SD card recording and continuous 24/7 recording. Please do a review on that next because nobody else has one yet.
Hey LifeHackster, nice review! i am looking for a nice doorbell which supports 24/7 recording. EUFY told me the wired dual doorbell supports 24/7 recording, i assume they mean this E340? But in your review you tell it does not support 24/7 recording. Is this fixed by an update or is it still not supported? Also do you know which doorbell does support this fearure? Thanks in advance!
Do you know if this doorbell has the ability to play a recorded message once it detects motion? I see it can play a message when you ring the bell but so far nothing for just motion detection. Great video and review, thank you so much.
Great Reviews. I am in the market for a doorbell cam. I agree with your final comments. I am dissapointed Eufy did not build in an option for base station use, direct wire only, and the 3 second preroll. Clearly a concious design flaw. With these options it would be best in class!
That's interesting what you said about it not being a true wired doorbell. When I called them they made it seem like it was the best of both worlds.. Do you think they will be coming out with a purely wired model? Could this be fixed by a firmware update? Had major fomo with this as I assumed the most recent version would be better than the previous. But maybe I need to get the previous wired model. This is a major deal for me as this was going to be my main doorbell after a renovation
A pity they didn't improve the resolution from 2K to 4K to make it more of a worthwhile upgrade from the S330. They have also not included the radar detection where you can control the sensitivity for each angle. The low light sensor is slightly better, the removable swappable battery & light for colour night vision may be useful additions. However the light will drain the battery faster & if you already have a porch light will you get colour night vision if you turn the lighting mode off? It would have been useful to know how well the "Bionic Mind AI" works in identifying peoples faces & triggering events. Because on the S330 i have the facial recognition isnt that good. The Google Nest Doorbell i had is much better in that regard & the motion detection detects people at a longer distance than on the Eufy. Where Amazon Echo is supported it doesn't work with the Google Nest Hub outside of the chime, no auto live view when the doorbell is rung.
The Ring camera has a tall angle lens rather than dual lens, which is better as it gives you a complete view. Still thing Reolink make the best video doorbell though it doesn't work with existing chime, but that is better since it doesn't rely on a capacitor to make up for power deficit when the doorbell is rung so that is an additional failure point if you use existing chime which can lead to loss of power to the doorbell if someone presses and holds the button down too long or the capacitor goes bad.
There is an option for the homebase 2 but I haven’t checked or tested it out. It will most likely record to the homebase 2 and also chime…but the AI would be on the camera itself.
One thing I love Eufy camera is that it doesn't have subscription fees. But I think their quality control is not very good, I have 2 eufyCam2, and one of the cameras drains the battery much faster than the other one, even though the one that is draining the battery has way less activity in the area. I also have a Eufy 2c camera, A few months ago, it constantly said to establish secure video access, was unable to play live video, and went offline all the time. I am glad this doorbell has a removable battery to replace the battery.
I had the same issues with Eufy, after a couple months it crashes and goes offline, if you reboot by detaching the wires and re-attaching it will work a couple days and go offline again, so basically a brick, worse than a dumb doorbell as you can't even ring the doorbell. And Eufy replaced it under warranty but the replacement unit had the same problem so I asked for refund but they said they couldn't do that because I didn't purchase it directly from them. So basically they don't fully honor the one year warranty if you purchase from Amazon.
Hi, thanks for the nice video! I wanted to ask you, do you receive notifications with the photo of the person they pass by without ringing? In this model I noticed a slowdown that the doorbell uses to capture the image of those who pass in front and sometimes if they pass in a hurry or don't stop in front they don't even take the photo or start the recording.....there is something to do set yet or is this model just like this? I had eufy video doorbell T8200311 wired but it caught everyone even people who were passing by quickly...
Thank you lifehackster as always it's a great review video! Could you make a comparison video between this one and the wired S330 doorbell? I find E340 quite promising especially with colour night vision, but after watching your wired s330 review I'm shocked that E340 has much slower notification speed and package guard response. Perhaps because like you said E340 is still being desgined as a battery doorbell even when wired in. Thanks again!
I have been think about getting one however, I don’t like the idea of it being down when my battery is charging…and at this time I do not see Eufy offering the option to purchase a separate extra battery. Also …..as always…GREAT review.
Have you played around with the “radar” settings? It’s advertised online as part of the dual motion detection- assuming normal motion detection occurs, radar scans to see if object is actually within pre determined range or not and then pass on the alert? Ring has something similar- i live in a condo where it’s impossible to set activity zones because the any zone that captures my porch also gets the sidewalk and trying to see what options are
I replaced my Nest Doorbell two days ago with this one and I loved it so far except that the doorbell button is challenging to locate at night because it did not come with an LED halo around it.
I was wondering if those product still have the same problem as the other ones you reviewed in your last video. More specifically, it was that if someone steals the doorbell, we wouldn’t have access to our videos anymore (without the home base). Thank you!
Great video, as always. I often wonder what happens when Eufy's battery-powered cameras & doorbells lose connection to the router (home network / internet) or to the Homebase 3 during a power outage. Do they still record and default to their internal memory, or is a connection to the "Eufy mothership" (or Homebase) required in order for them to function?
I have the Eufy Dual Battery doorbell (S330) & Homebase 2. If you unplug the Homebase from the mains or disconnect the internet in your router which connects to the Homebase then the doorbell goes offline & events are not viewable in the Eufy app, even when your mobile device is connected to a mobile network. However the doorbell does still activate when it detects motion & will ring. The events are recorded only if the Homebase has power but not viewable until the Homebase is connected to the internet. It should be the same for the E340 & the Homebase 3.
Eufy sponsored this video! The opinions are only going to be favorable. I bought this and was very disappointed. The first one worked for less than 24 hours. Stopped detecting motion. Eufy tech said it was defective. They sent me another one. Same thing. Worked for the first day and nothing after that. Resetting the battery would get it to work again for a short time. Not impressed at all. All I wanted was a good motion detect camera for my entry door. This has been a big pain in the a$$!
Have you ever tried to paint an outdoor surveillance camera? I have white cameras and a dark colored house? What type of paint is recommended for plastic? Thanks for the great content.
Great video LH, thanks. Question in regards to linking the E340 to the home base 3, my app software is v4.790_1371, when select edge I don’t see any of the features you were talking about. I was trying to link my video doorbell to the home base.
Thanks. I have bought the doorbell following your review, installed to replace my existing doorbell. Unfortunately my old chime keeps ringing non stop. And even wired, the doorbell does not show the green plug icon 😢
Does this record only when someone clicks the button or when there is motion? And no subscription ? Do I have to delete old videos to make room or does that do automatically
Has Anker said anything about a true hard wired option for this that enables those feature sets? I was really sold on this one until you broke the news about its lack of true wired feature sets. Such a bummer.
I know this videos old but can you tell me if you can turn the outside chime volume down if you still have the doorbell set up? Some places say no, some places say no but you can turn it down. Turning it down is fine if it can get reallyyy quiet. Just dont want it blaring out each time. Why does the outside person need the chime? lol. The lights should be enough. Dunno why smart doorbells make it so loud.
I bought this doorbell as a upgrade from my eufyy 2k doorbell. Sadly it wasn’t an upgrade to me. The E340 don’t have 24/7 recording like my eufy 2k doorbell. I also can’t pair the E340 with my existing chimes from the eufy 2K which is ridiculous. Eufy making you buy new chimes for their doorbell is a ripoff when they could have easily made it work with their existing chimes that are placed throughout my home. Only good thing about the e340 is the second camera for package detection. Unfortunately I’ll be returning the E340 and sticking with my 2k doorbell a little longer.
@LifeHackster is it possible to have the eufy doorbell calling the phone when its pressed? or is it text only notification? i didn't see an option to change that feature. Do you thing eufy could upgrade that in future software update?
If i wire this eufy to my existing doorbell, how will it ring inside the house? Do i need to but something else if I don't want the ringer i currently have? Or will i have the choice for ringers inside the house.
No the doorbell relies on the battery to work. Hardwiring it only keeps the battery fully charged. As for accessing the recordings stored on the memory in the doorbell, it will still need to be connected to your WiFi routers internet connection otherwise it will go offline in the Eufy app so the events will not be accessible. Which suggests the doorbell needs to be connected to Eufy servers probably in China.
With Ring increasing their pricing again I don’t find it worthwhile spending £50 a year just for my Pro 2 doorbell. I had Eufy but they only have one sided audio recording and more false motion alerts. What other reliable doorbells are there?
Do you know if Eufy ever responded to storing facial recognition data on their coud servers without customer's consent? For customers using Homebase for example. Also, if Eufy ever fixed their API because the video stream was being transmitted unencrypted and anybody with the URL to the video stream was is able to see the stream? No encryition of any kind. I'm sure you have heard about the Eufy security scandal. I don't know if Eufy has ever responded or addressed the flaws. I'm looking for a good secure cloud-less solution to a doorbell for my home.
Sigh.... How hard can it be to have a continuous recording doorbell to record onto the memory card or Homebase in 2023 ? The colour night vision looks okay but the ones on the Wyze camera look a lot better even though those games have so many bugs. Good job, lots of fair points as always
I bought this on your recommendations and reviews and regret it. I'm not slamming you, I love your channel, but this camera is buggy, big time! The image quality is amazing, the dual cam is awesome, and the tracking works as advertised. Unfortunately the so called smart software or what they claim is Ai, is anything but. After months of messing with settings I've come to accept that this thing will trigger all day every day for multiple reasons that cannot be adjusted, so I just delete dozens of videos every day. I cannot confirm the false trip causes, but I think there are a few in my case; 1. Rapid temp changes. I live in San Diego and today for example, my camera is in 46 degrees and it's dark outside. The sun will hit my camera at around 10:30am and the temperature will rise rapidly to 70 degrees, and of course the sunlight will warm the camera itself even more. I'm guessing the physical expansion of camera materials trigger back to back videos for about 15 minutes. 2. There is a pool in my camera's view that cannot be edited out of the settings because I need the surrounding area of the pool to be monitored, and I believe the occasional movement in the pool water sets off the camera too. 3. A third false trigger is a complete mystery, although I think it might be water droplets, dew, dripping from the edge of my roof and passing close in front of the camera. I can't be sure about this one but again there are several of these that only occur in the morning and the video show drops of water dripping in front of the camera, but onto the camera.
I just purchased a ring camera, but the only problem I see is it doesn’t give me notification when somebody walks up towards the stairs. Is there a setting that I’m missing?
Is it possible to use the E340 at night with no lights that can be seen from outside? I mean, only infrared light ON but no others camera's light (e.g. bottom etc.)?
My old Ring Pro 2 is still the best doorbell cam IMO. Each of the reviews of newer doorbell cams make me feel good about my purchase as well as frustrated with other companies futility. I guess I’ll have to wait for the Ring Pro 3 for my next upgrade. Does this have the security issue of removing videos from your library when the doorbell cam is stolen (a lot easier with a mere SIM card removal tool) and reset?
I don’t think a wired only version is practical because it would not be compatible with existing the low voltage / power wiring of existing door bells. The existing wiring now is used more like a trickle charger for the battery.
Can you have the light come on during the day ? We have a slightly dark entryway and our Ring doorbell gets fooled by the light behind the person making it hard to see them on the camera.
Hi,can it reconnect to wifi automatically? In case of house power issue? Ring doorbell is unable to reconnect by itself, everytime I have to unscrew and perform reset from back.
Okay, so i taught ive seen a pre record option somewhere but i have lost it. I have wired my E340 but cant find the prerecord option anymore. Am i becoming crazy?
The best reviewer of all smart home security devices. Thank you for all you do!

I noticed the E330 is $199 while the newer E340 is $179. Do you know why? Between the 2 models which do you like better?
I have been think about getting one however, I don’t like the idea of it being down when my battery is charging…and at this time I do not see Eufy offering the option to purchase a separate extra battery. Also …..as always…GREAT review.
Yes they do sell the battery seperatly. In europe it costs 40 euros, it just charges with any phone charger (usbc)
You can just run an extension cord close enough to the doorbell and charge it while still in use, I’m betting?
Have you played around with the “radar” settings? It’s advertised online as part of the dual motion detection- assuming normal motion detection occurs, radar scans to see if object is actually within pre determined range or not and then pass on the alert?
Ring has something similar- i live in a condo where it’s impossible to set activity zones because the any zone that captures my porch also gets the sidewalk and trying to see what options are
Really wish Eufy would support dual audio recording. Only reason I moved to Ring.
Dual camera on the doorbell!! thats great! my cameras n doorbell are all Reolink. I hope they made dual doorbell as well.
Thank you!
Yes they do
Great video, as always.
I have to test this out but if this is setup by itself and stores the footage on its onboard storage, it should still record the event...
I noticed your doorbell is positioned on an angle. Is your wall angled or did you use a wedge to angle the position?
Have you ever tried to paint an outdoor surveillance camera? I have white cameras and a dark colored house? What type of paint is recommended for plastic? Thanks for the great content.
Hardware store will be able to help you. Lots of plastic paints in the spray paint isle
Great video LH, thanks. Question in regards to linking the E340 to the home base 3, my app software is v4.790_1371, when select edge I don’t see any of the features you were talking about. I was trying to link my video doorbell to the home base.
Hi there, do you have any recommendations for a rental safe door mount for this specific doorbell?
Is the quality good enough clean and nice?
It can detect and record motion events. No subscription and it automatically records over old footage.
Has Anker said anything about a true hard wired option for this that enables those feature sets? I was really sold on this one until you broke the news about its lack of true wired feature sets. Such a bummer.
I want a wired only version which has pre recordings and also records to homebase.
Me too... Thanks for watching!
Nobody's going to comment on the Alex A? Haha. Good review.
Does the hole on top for the push pin tool let in water?
@LifeHackster is it possible to have the eufy doorbell calling the phone when its pressed? or is it text only notification? i didn't see an option to change that feature. Do you thing eufy could upgrade that in future software update?
Please review the new wyze doorbell that just came up this week!!!!!
Pretty soon.
hello thanks for the review. how this device deals with the weather? is there any IP rating?
its ip65
@@JoeMadhead thanks
If i wire this eufy to my existing doorbell, how will it ring inside the house? Do i need to but something else if I don't want the ringer i currently have? Or will i have the choice for ringers inside the house.
What’s the Best Value doorbell camera that works with Amazon show-8 and iPhone ?
If you want a good integration with Amazon Alexa devices then any of the Ring video doorbells.
Another great video! Thank you!
In your opinion what is the best all around camera-doorbell to purchase?
Could you do a review of the ring video doorbell elite? The Ethernet powers one
I wish they have 24/7 recording, motion alert reply, and not be easy to be removed by a pin
Is this doorbell in your opinion slightly better than the ring?
Does it have a screw to screw to the bracket for security?? I dont want someone coming along with a paperclip and stealing it!!
Would it even operate when it is wired and the battery still fails? Also, any offshore data transfer? That appears to be more and more prevalent.
Question: does the blue light around the button lights up/pulsates (automatically) when it detects motion?
Eufy seems pretty good. 😊
I cannot confirm the false trip causes, but I think there are a few in my case;
Hello LifeHackster, between this doorbell and the Reolink Wifi - which one would you use?
With WIFI setup only, then this or the Ring PRO 2 but Reolink has wired network connection option on their WIFI model and is the one I'm using now.
I just purchased a ring camera, but the only problem I see is it doesn’t give me notification when somebody walks up towards the stairs. Is there a setting that I’m missing?
When will eufy come out with a new home security alarm system?
Thank u for review
My pleasure 😊
Is it better then orignal one?
Yes, the Ring Pro 2 is pretty good.
Ring is worthless without the Subscription... So is Nest...
How the Fk does anyone down vote this video..?? I love this dude!!!
@mackjsm7105...Thanks for watching!
I don’t think a wired only version is practical because it would not be compatible with existing the low voltage / power wiring of existing door bells. The existing wiring now is used more like a trickle charger for the battery.
Is it worth upgrading - I have the current wired dual camera
Nope. Stick with the wired dual cam. True wired setups are always better.
Can you have the light come on during the day ? We have a slightly dark entryway and our Ring doorbell gets fooled by the light behind the person making it hard to see them on the camera.
Spot on review yet again and welcome to the 5G mobile data connection
I know.. I finally upgraded my phone :)
I need a wired camera with expandable storage in the homebase.
Why don’t you review any Aqara products? Just curious.
They probably don't send him free units to get him to review?
