Hi, I'm 63, born and raised in Eastern OR, so your skill set(s) really speak to me. Your impressive breadth of knowledge in 'old school' technology, tools, methods and ethics is heartwarming to an old man. You have an admirable appreciation of quality and an understanding that just because something is "new" doesn't make it better. Thanks for reminding us how vital and rewarding it is to preserve the past.
I'm not 63, but I couldn't agree with you more. The industrial revolution helped America greatly, yet gave way to the destruction of America.
I guess I should say that the advancements in technology is what gave way to the destruction of humanity. Electronics, the internet, ect.
Man, I'd forgotten how much I love this series. Been going through it again the last couple of days.
Loved watching those woods fill up with snow. Very artfully done.
Man that bark is stunning. Great cinematography.
Thx! I'm lovin the series.
Cody, please create a playlist for the Back to Basics videos. Thanks. [This was a well filmed, well edited and entertaining video.]
Another great video, Thanks!!!
I heard you on Jack's podcast yesterday, you are a good man and thanks for going on there to spread the word. God Bless!!
This is one of the best Videos of Wranglerstar I've ever seen! This man puts all his heart in his work... Very educational outdoors material. Great work...
Thank you Wranglerstar! God bless your work, you and your Family!
Its the audio that gets me. Surrounded in silence, with the work you do making notes that float away into the wild . I love it. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos.
For your winch, I would suggest making a skid boat for it. It would be a lot easier on the winch and you wouldn't get hung up on stumps or anything. You could probably use the top of a oil drum or something of that size to make one. Great video Cody! I'm really enjoying the series
I have always thought that there was something special about your videos. But now, i see it. Its is an art, the shots of the snow, the story you put into the video. I know see, that you, Cody, you are art. The patience, and wisdom, the knowledge and willingness, to teach so many others your skills. I believe that you do not get enough thanks, and praises, for ALL of the work, and time you put into making these videos.
So, on behalf of all of your subscribers, young and old,
Thank You.
Every One Thumbs This Up, So He Can See!
That winch is worth it's weight in gold! Excellent video. Thanks.
Fantastic series, I'm really enjoying watching. Thanks!
Love the shot of the hands on the axe, you can really see the good connection made between axe head and tree. Different perspective.
Very entertaining with such great camera work, B roll, music and editing. Such very high quality is really appreciated here. Thanks.
Oh man, I'm dying to know what you're making. You definitely have all of us on the edge of our seats waiting for your next video. You obviously spend a great deal of time setting up the shots for these videos. All the different angles, and shots of you walking towards areas and away. I cant even begin to understand just how long all this takes you, but it is very entertaining, enjoyable and greatly appreciated. Can't wait for the next installment. :)
Very nicely done Cody, those woods look so serene and beautiful
The fact that you take twice as long to do a set amount of work so that you can share it with me means a lot to me. Thanks.
Cody would you make a video going over the basics of how (and why) you select the trees that you do. The considerations you make and different trees for different reasons etc.
I'm sure it'd be very interesting. Thanks.
something so peaceful about watching these ... I've got it set up for the playlist to go in the background while I do other work. Really helps me feel connected to nature when I am stuck in the office. Thank you Cody, you are an inspiration.
Again, the quality of videos that you create for us, Cody, is truly impressive. Thank you again.
Eric.
Well done Cody. Enjoyed this particular video very much. Such a great feeling to peel off that jacket on a brisk late fall or early winter day, and take it all in while getting some meaningful work done.
The camera work is so great on this channel
Definetly right....
I found your channel a year or so ago when you were building your first timber frame and have been hooked since. I'm glad to see you starting this back up after the other one was stolen. I know that must have been very discouraging. Keep up the great videos Wranglerstar family!
Cody, I am living these videos. I've been in the city for so long now that I am starting to forget the silence and peacefulness of the Forrest. That's for sharing what can only be a wonderful day with us.
Once again, another great video from Wranglerstar. You put a lot of time and effort into these videos and we thank you for that.
I just love how these videos are produced. Your instructional videos are great too, but there's just something so charming about watching you work away quietly with some background music.
Cool hand saw, good to see someone carrying on the old timer's ways.
Great video, really liked the use of the winch at the end. Nice to see it isn't just a novelty item. Thumbs up brother!
This series was shot and performed beautifully like art! Insiprational...
this series has become one of the highlights of the week
Me and the boys enjoy the alice packs as well. They are rugged, well made and very practical for gear hauling.
wranglerstar I became a subscriber about a couple months ago and I just wanted to say that all of your videos have mean't a lot to me. I've learned a lot from them and also when I found out that you were a believer in Jesus Christ it was a huge bonus. Also these back to basic videos are awesome. Love how you bring the past to the present by using the old tools that past loggers would have used. I am envious of the way that you live your life, out in the wilderness living!
Great camera work Cody. I find myself wanting to record projects that I am working on and somehow always forget to start filming or get engrossed in my work and never reposition the camera. Love the series too. Also love the DIY and the How to's too.
With the chainsaw at the end... things can happen suddenly in the woods, and I had this cartoonish image of the log you were towing come flying out of the brush haha
Your videos have an air of tranquility to them. I wish I could do what you are doing!
Best part of the whole video is how it goes from season to season. Starts out with everything covered in snow, then it's all melted, then it's back to snow again. lol
like your videos pure life and pure nature !!
I love these videos. Keep them coming and I'll keep liking them!
i just experienced something horrible. I was at my local store, and they where selling ELECTRIC SNOWBLOWERS! they where made in plastic, even the "blades" where. I turned in disgust, and walked out of the store, hoping nobody would by such a horrible thing. When i got back home, my mother had bought one. I had a face of terror while i asked her what she was thinking, and how fast she would return it. she refused ofc; and i told her that it would break.
After the first 5-10 minutes of use on light snow, it was broken. My head nearly exploded, but i did not sat the "i told you so". My mom took it back, but instead of getting money back, or buying something else, she got another one.
Now i don't know what to do. I have actually tried it, it's hard to push, it stops, makes more noise than a good gas powered one, does not move the snow far enough, the list goes on...
What a piece of plastic junk. Sad to see!
havenisse2009 go back to Cali
Shop craigslist for one worth having. "Wranglerstar" it. Make a few video's. If the crap one is still working, you can show us what your good one does against it. Just say out loud; "I can do it". Makes you feel warm inside doesn't it.
This reads like a shitty creepypasta
Cody, you keep outdoing yourself. You have now gone beyond your usual awesome educational video onto a short film genre. This video with little narration is telling a intriguing story complete with great cinematography. The camera angles are well thought out, the close up of the long saw was boffo. You have us cliff hanging for more. God bless you for all the thought you put into these productions for us. I've now found myself checking youtube several times a day to see if you posted another video.
awesome, loving these videos
One of my favorite videos yet
Nicely done Cody. Your filming and editing skills are improving and are to be admired.
I love these videos Cody, these back to basics videos are amazing, full of awesome stuff that make me inspired to do more than I currently am, I live in New Zealand and land here costs a bit but my wife and I are wanting to buy 10 acres and I would love to do a cabin or house the old way, like how you did until it was stolen. thanks so much for inspiring me to be more productive with my time a better husband to my wife and a better Christian and man of God, Thanks Cody. Peter from New Zealand
Fantastic series and great use of 64mm (2 1/2") canvas. :)
10 Min. just doesn't seem long enough, thanks for another great episode.
Oh man I miss the snow!! Thanks Cody
Great series! Much learned from your videos.
Wranglerstar you keep the homesteading skills alive. With youtube! Awsome
Amazing video, your channel just gets better and better, I can't wait for more.
Found your channel accidently this week and cant stop watching! I have learnt so much over the past few days, you sir are my new role.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and keep up the good work Wranglerstar family!
So far so good, nice to see it snows where your at too.Keep those videos coming
Definitely enjoy the "back to basics" series. But my favorite still remains the Timber Frame Cabin series. Great job Cody!
You really tell a story. Beautiful forest, too. We have eucalyptus trees.
I gotta make myself one of those saw winches that stuff gets heavy after an hour or so , love that old saw too
Hey Cody. Great work. I have no comprehention of how cold it is there. Such dedication. Our family love your videos. Also I agree with the comments below. Great shooting. It must take you a while.
I'm not sure I'm able to like this video series enough. It really makes me wish I were back in rural Manitoba.
This must be an important project if you are out in the snowy weather to work on it! I swear, the production quality of your videos just keeps getting better and better!
nice to see the winch earning it's keep
Thank you again, Sir.
Love the series. Keep up the great work. I've been stuck in the mud more times than I can count. Silly stuff like that used to bother me, but thankfully, I don't let things like that stress me out anymore. I only wish I'd have learned that long ago.
This series reminds me of Dick Proenneke and his "Alone in the Wilderness" series. I love it keep it comming.
Hope you and the family stay warm for this winter!
I liked the camera angle when it was pointed straight up while you were chopping! That was pretty cool!
Cody, I wish that when I'm older (I'm only 12) I can be just like you and I just love this kind of stuff like homesteading and such axes and blacksmithing beekeeping are some things I like and seen your interested in and you are my second favorite but getting close to first but I would much appirtate if you could get in touch with me somehow I would like to ask I couple of qutions you are like my hero thank you
Hope he helped you out man.
Outstanding video man. Thanks
Another great video from wranglerstar. Thumbs up for Mumford and Sons! I least I think that acoustic guitar is from their album Babel.
Now this edition would definitely be considered "Proenneke-like" with some modern enhancements (i.e. the advent of HD video, some small gas-powered assistance, and...a nicely equipped Pick-Up Truck!) I will go as far as to say this video could be used as a fitting tribute to a REAL pioneer and American Legend, "Dick" Proenneke! I know he'd even love this! Nicely done!
Your production quality has really improved the last month or so! Thanks for all the time you put into the vids to make it more enjoyable!
Love love love!
You have some STRANGE subscribers! Once again... nice video, Thanks
Some of the best vids online!
Your production is getting amazing Cody
Your videos remind me of when I used to volunteer at Allaire state park in NJ. It's a functioning village from the 1800s and everything is done the same way. It was enjoyable until I got too sick.
You are my new favorite channel. Outstanding videos and content. You really do a great job. The final product you put out is very enjoyable, and I appreciate the effort that you put into it.
GOD provides sawhorses to those that notice such things. Thank you for your works.
Got it working. Another great video!!
Im loving the videos, thank you for making them. as someone who lives in the pacific northwest as well youre getting me excited to go finish my hewing project. Thanks again!
Love the video love the snow!
Still here. Looking forward to seeing what will become of the processed logs.
hahahahahaha chopping down that tree and using nothing but hand tools and then dragging the tree with a motor was one of the funniest I've seen in a while. The got me cracking up pretty good.
Cody, I absolutely love your videos. You are a man of many talents and an artist. The production quality keeps getting better all the time.
You have inspired me in many ways. BTW I have 2 tulip poplars over 90' tall that will be ready to take down as soon as all of the sap falls here in Georgia. They are straight as a power pole, can't wait to see what I can make out of them :)
Good stuff buddy, keep em coming!
I had no idea a chain saw could do that!
Another wonderful video! Still love that Poulan powdered winch.
AWESOMENESS Cody! Well done with some of those camera angles...super cool.
Wranglerstar, you are doing a very good job at keeping what you are making a secret. I don't have the slightest clue of what your project is. The anticipation is killing me.
Very nice shoulder tool rig!
I'm new to your videos as of about a week or two ago, but I'm loving them. I hope you don't mine me living vicariously through you a bit.
Great video. Keep them coming.
Get those skills back out there Cody! You are doing a great job!
Time for a lift kit and 35" Baja Claws??? Haha!
Wonderful Video!
Great vid- like the shameless self-promo. Thumbs up clicked. I wish we were getting snow down in the valley!
Loving back to basics ;)
Your videos are a meditation.
OhMyGosh a power saw??? Had to mute the sound at that part....
Love your videos.....
Man you work hard good to see!!!
Sad to see the ending to yet another fantastic piece of work. Thanks Cody. You make me want to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I know right nothing like a dude whacking wood to convert people into Christianity
thanks I realy like this 1 and all ur stuff
👍🏻👍🏻 Cute little video I watched it several times for some reason it seems to calm me down 😅😅😇
