That was the “easy part”
Now the hard part is cleaning up that space and removing it out of the way.
And getting the gigantic stump out
Its probably more for protection against any widowmakers although a big enough widowmaker is just as bad as a whole tree falling on you.

The guy has a channel about homesteading with a prime focus on cutting wood and people are offended when he cuts down a tree in his videos--- I don't get it. Sure, I like trees but I also like 2x4s, paper, toilet paper, floors, cabinets, furniture, campfires, barns, sheds, buildings, tool handles, railroad ties, picture frames, baseball bats, bird houses, bat boxes, boats, truck beds, anything made out of wood and the entire history of human friggin beings!!! I use oil for heat though.
mudguyRC And most of the trees on his property seem to be of similar size. You'd think people would pay attention to that...
mudguyRC And don't forget about the very important TOOTHPICK! lol oh and matches too!
mudguyRC People trawl through videos looking for something to moan about,,you will never stop these sad people, pity them and keep on doing what you do,they really should be looking what their wives are up to whilst they are on hear looking for something to moan at,,,
HolzMichel agreed. Family owns a tree farm, old growth can actually be pretty hazardous. Infection, insects, snd a fire hazard
+mudguyRC I think because most people on the internet live in a jammed packed city in little apartment, where the biggest plant the see ever is a little bonzai tree or bamboo in a vase. There perception of a forest doesnt exist really to them. I am looking outside now and there are trees all over. Logging is fine, assuming trees are replanted. A lot of places in Canada will cut down a big old tree and then plant 10 little trees around to replace it.

For those who don't know, it's not healthy for a forest to have lots of large and old trees, the large trees are less productive and they block out light from reaching new saplings, also such a large true can be a risk to humans nearby when they die naturally.
Jasmine Ju , I see your point but the tree was in the middle of a grass field. Plz respond in a civil way and not aggressive or rude it's just my opinion.
But the older ones generally host the most wildlife
They take this one done to get firewood and building material.
But there's nothing that stop them from planting a new one.
In Sweden the Ratio is 1:2 witch means that for every tree we take down, we plant two new ones.

ok fam, time to do the rest of the forrest
Anyone with an intellect knows we have to manage forests and trees. If done correctly that's GOOD for the forest. Cutting down one tree is not a bad thing in itself.
how does cutting one tree benefit the rest of the trees?
In forestry management one tree might be stealing all the light so is felled to allow the others to breathe. Pine trees don't grow right next to each other. There are other concerns like disease etc. In this instance they explained they were felling as their family played in this area and it was a safety issue.
That's not the same as callously felling a tree for no reason. Have a nice day :)
ah, i see. thanks for the nice response :D
Look, I'm no tree hugger, I know chopping a single tree isn't going to increase ocean level. But it always saddened me when a tree is cutted for no reason, or for avoidable reasons. This looked like a magnificent healthy tree, and it's kind of sad that instead of adapting to it they decided to cut it off.
Youve got it wrong, Matt. Managing your forest by felling trees is good for production, so its good for you, the land owner. The forest couldn't care less, but in the long run would restore itself better without human interaction.
When you have an area of forest that has been managed for production for generations, like almost all of our forests here in Norway the quickest way to grow it is to keep managing it because it can take hundreds of years for a forest to restore its whole ecosystem naturally. Thats why if you leave a deforested area to itself you will not see it grow into anything beautiful for many generations, leading to your exact argument. A managed forest might have a lot of trees, but it truly looks absolutely nothing like a natural forest.
I enjoy wood as much as the next guy so Im all for forestry and I dont care what people do in their yards or how landowners manage the ravaged areas they call forests. What I do care about is that we keep monetary interests the fuck away from the very few remaining natural forests we have.
I see more comments about all the tree huggers in the comments than I see tree huggers.

Cutting down a tree with a crosscut saw together should be a requirement before getting married. Lumberjacks always give each other a big hug after felling a tree.
Thanks for this one. I'm not a tree-hugger, but something in you has to shed a tear when a magnificent creation like that is felled. Was it beginning to rot and drop branches? I trust that you have put all of the timber to good use.
That thing came down like a titan, thanks for filming it for us.
i love watching videos of people cutting down trees the old fashioned way, it restores my hope in humanity when i think all hope is lost because it shows that people are still able to be self reliant, hell anything showing self reliance makes me feel better about this world i live in. keep it up and im glad to hear you guys put the tree to good use too so that way all the tree huggers and hippies have nothing to complain about haha, also so yo had fire wood and everything else that's really more important.
Self reliant, wow. the trees that old will grow back, but not in our life time, people don't get it, it's not about saving the trees or the planet. Both will recover, in time. We will all be dead by then though, it's more about saving us.

This huge tree is shading my garden, that I put in the shade of the tree.
Right? Why doesn't she just move her freaking garden that tree was alive healthy and beautiful
I was thinking the same thing. There seems to be plenty of space to put a garden elsewhere. But maybe to them, living in the environment that they do, a tree of this size is nothing special. I know I would be hesitant to cut down a healthy tree like that.

I felt elation because it was being done by a man and woman who understood and appreciated their lives, the give and take of nature on this earth, and your honor of life.
You proffer a wonderful channel, and it is a privilege to watch.
Thank you.
Great video. Let me see if I have the process down.
1. Girdle the tree
2. Cross cut about 1/3 into the tree (aiming in the direction you want it to fall)
3. Cut that chuck out, with axe or with saw at a diagonal
4. Draw the box? - how do you figure where to draw the box?
5. Cross cut from the other side of the tree, using wedges as you get deeper
6. Stop cutting at the box, and pound the wedges as deep as you can
7. Cut a little more if needed until tree goes down
Did I miss anything?
you got it,
What about the box, though? How do you figure out where to draw it?
What is a hard hat going to do if a giant tree falls on you

All these people crying about a tree getting cut down are probably sitting in a room framed with wood lumber, possibly sitting in a wooden chair, at a wooden desk, and using internet that has a wire that runs outside to a wooden telephone pole. Yet they cry because they want to remove one tree that is putting shade on their garden and making it harder to grow crops? Imagine if the tree huggers practiced what they preached and never used anything wood. They wouldn't last a day.
They'd be using they're fingers to wipe their butts.
Timebanditxxx id rather use leafs or rocks
WiFi is not though telephone poles but I get you're point
Nate still, we need to start somewhere to save this planet, as population keeps growing, trees will run out, unless for every tree you fell, plant 1 in its stead
I dont care about crops !
I used to be a tree hugger until I began using saw milled lumber to build permanent outdoor structures and furniture. I then adopted wood as my primary heat source and came to realize just what trees are for. Yes, they produce oxygen and clean the air but so does grass and shrubbery and don't destroy things they fall on after a wind/rain storm. we BUILD things, humans have thumbs,, duhh. YOU build such fine things I cannot fault you for letting in some sun and un-earthing mama's garden she has worked so hard on. I still love trees and I'm grateful for what they provide us too. I not only have opposable thumbs but can hold two opposing thoughts in my head without it popping too.
The hug at the end is wonderful.
One hell of a workout though.

I think the motivation of the video are family togetherness and the use of hand tools without cutting-edge technologies ... The celebration did not fall by the tree ... He is completing a difficult task together ... The trees do not die for have to be torn down ... Are on the planet longer than we were ... Well, natural fires would have gotten away with it ...
