I love the way you hear him sing the high note in the 'n' before he goes up to the note. Bam, right into the sweet spot -- ping and color and all aroung yumminess. What a wonderful singer.
I will never forget how thrilling his voice sounded in the house, especially the top...a big vibrant, ringing sound that was emitted with absolute effortlessness and soared out through the auditorium like a radiant beam of light...
Phenomenal virility coupled with masterly control makes the listening so absorbing and wonderfully exciting. A diction that is in a cathegory of itself.
It's from the documentary that deals mainly with the staging of Fra Diavolo in San Francisco in 1968. If I understood well, this is from the concert in Villach (Beljak), from the same year.
@bodiloto This is ONE Gadda performance. He's sung countless Russian folk and Lieder songs in varied styles, including the MOST soft and tender pasages. Listen to his Rachmaninoff. OK. Boidiota. Capisci una pizza.
@bodiloto "Domingo e Carreras cantavano meglio" I thought the comment above was stupid, but this "gentleman" is a well of unending blatand idoicy when it comes to trashing a consumate artist and human as Nicolai Gedda. Perhaps he is just plain ignorant of tenors and singing.

Nicolai Gedda brings magic to everything he sings. Thankyou for posting this.
