Irene cali His real life was really tragic as well, he was abandoned by his parents at birth, the women who took him in treated him really harshly and he was eventually drove away. He came to America on his own and worked multiple jobs to afford himself education. His only marriage was short-lived and never saw his success. After he became famous, his fellow Hong Kongers really hated him as he was the only actor who refused to cooperate with the local gangs. And the gangs run almost all the paper, media and movie industry at the time. He was portrayed poorly by his own people. He named himself John lone because in many ways he was alone all his life, he has no family, no love and there is hardly anyone to be called a close friend. I think part of the reasons why he portrayed Puyi so successfully was he is pretty much the same man as Puyi - A lonely and helpless soul under the spotlight, and silently washed away by the tide of age.
John Lone has became one of the most legendary faces of China/Hongkong movie industry and the world. His beauty was unreal. John Lone’s grace impressed me a lot
John really digged into the character. He could describe the nature of the character he played precisely. Just love him and his performance much. Hope he is healthy and happy.
Most talented Chinese actor ever and just like with Rourke it all seems to have run out in the sand in the 90's, maybe cause the Hollywood system started to focus on big high concept movies and not real cinematic craftmanship.
Gorgeous elegant man. So humble, yet at the same time, he is graceful. Alluring and soft male voice/accent, he is very well-spoken (from what interviews I have seen of him).
I remember my youngest sister going gaga to John Lone at that time to the point that she equated the ideal man of her life to John's perceived qualities taken from the last emperor movie.
Exceptionally handsome! What a great actor! He will be forever remembered for his impeccable performances in The Last Emperor, Iceman, and M Butterfly.
I was only around 10 year old when that time The Last Emperor released late of 80’. I was completely don’t know English at all but I enjoyed watch this movie. Little by little as I grew up this movie still famously decade by decade, and I have keep watching and watching after 3 decades. I am so grateful my childhood memories included John Lone. He is amazingly unique, significantly a beautiful soul down to earth 🌍. He deserves more respect and love. Only China doesn’t deserve him, those who betrayed , disrespected John.
John Lone is such a versatile actor and genuinely attractive. It’s unfortunate that he is retired, but he did have a good run with films. Would be wonderful to meet him someday before he leaves this world.
He retired? Where was this proclaimed? Ah man, I hear that would be nice to meet him before he leaves. Do you also get sad about our golden actors and artists leaving us...sigh
@@aminXlocale his final role was War (2007) with co-stars Jet Li and Jason Statham. Talent, humbleness, and wisdom are what those actors presented, coupled with strong storytelling and deep focus on the human condition. There are exceptions like Tarantino and Scorsese. American cinema in the 20th century was incredible, despite its dark sides too. But far better quality than the corporate empire/digital media mess today. We still have so many films in preservation, and can watch them and take its lessons in real life.
@@exempligratia101 well said my friend, today's movie industry is falling like the empires of the past. Thank goodness we still have movies today like Nomadland etc and foreign which are made with love and purpose. Catch you around man and thanks for explaining his last role it's a shame.
Superb and unforgettable actor. A silky real natural. Him and Mickey Rourke made some great chemistry together. You can't tell he was acting his roles but rather lived them out. He really understood the characters he played.
2:35 ah i didnt know they threw the ball in the scene to make it look natural like they hit it over & john missed it ok. i remember every scene of this movie love it.
Not that I’m complaining but I get told I’m attractive and asked if I’m biracial, and it’s kind of insulting that some people think that u can’t possibly be pure Chinese and attractive.
not anger not revengeful just self protection....your soul still carry those negative stuff my feet hurts my back of head hurts my right head hurts becoz of your bugs...
+planetx15 1987 i knew because i seen this movie!!! john was 1 of the most famous asian star next to bruce lee but left hollywood too soon!!!! last american movie he made was war with jet li and jason statham!!!
Ive read some articles where he mentions his father was european and his mother was chinese, although he never met them. He was adopted by a woman who sent him to study peking opera when he was 10 and never saw her again. He has such an interesting history, i wish there was more information
I think John Lone's portrayal of the Emperor was extraordinary, but only showed the softer, nicer side of him. The movie sugar coated his personality. Supposedly in real life Pu Yi was a narcissist due to his imperial upbringing, and was far more cruel, to the point of being a bona fide asshole.
John Lone, a handsome man. He is so under-rated and deserved so much recognition for his work.

@MrHoppers002 But John is much more handsome.

He should have further his career in US instead of HK. Smh they did him no justice
Totally agreed with you! My heart aches for him
Wow John Lone speaks so eloquently.
An upper Class English accent.
John Lone is unique. Ever since I saw his picture the first time when I was 11 years old, I could never forget his charming face...
He spoke well of the character , as he studied and understood the man..perfect delivery in English

天啊!我真的不淡定了,尊龍完美詮釋什麼叫做貴族運動,穿整套白色特別紳士特別風度翩翩,連揮拍動作都好優雅,嘴角不自覺泛起驚歎的笑容令人服氣。

John Lone is a great actor. He needs to be in epic projects again, like "The Last Emperor."
Beautiful man.
I LOVE HIM
Been looking for a video of the dance scene he did in the Australian 'Echoes of Paradise'. What an incredibly talented, and disciplined dancer he was!

Iceman (1984)
hes mixed i can tell. if you look closely at his facial features, he is exceptionally handsome.
He got tested for DNA and he’s not mixed..
Many Chinese don’t look exactly Chinese or Asian. But if he mixed or not, John is still a legend of China
Not that I’m complaining but I get told I’m attractive and asked if I’m biracial, and it’s kind of insulting that some people think that u can’t possibly be pure Chinese and attractive.
好型呀😍
太帅了
String ball is a competition in Nebraska.

fluffy3344 ' he's entirely Chinese, and he was adopted by Americans
lanqing zhao he is adopted by a woman from shanghi, China
Ive read some articles where he mentions his father was european and his mother was chinese, although he never met them. He was adopted by a woman who sent him to study peking opera when he was 10 and never saw her again. He has such an interesting history, i wish there was more information
Remy Stone hhhhaahaaa his clearly chinese adopted by white family , cause his family is poor!!!
