    Tragic loss and waste. The most undervalued guitarist of our time. I remember where I was when I first heard Big Country on the radio.

    Probably my favorite band of all time. I first heard them in the early 80's when I was around 18 at that time when you "discover" a band and really attach yourself to it even if most others never heard of them. I saw them live and no band could charge up an audience like BC. You couldn't help but jump to the rhythm. I thought the balcony of the auditorium was going to collapse. Their fan base has always been intensely loyal. Such a unique sound and superb musicianship. RIP Stuart. Hope your'e in a better place now.

      john maughan ......I had the pleasure of seeing them live on a Hogmany Live Bash in Glasgow, think it was 1984..ish 31st December.......I was there and the one and only thing I remember was that I spent most of the night speewing up but the tunes in the background will live with me till I curl my toes up. Amazing band, just wish I was a wee bit less pissed. Traveled up from the Boro and had an amazing time :-)

    everytime I watch this I can't help but think what a loss Stuart Adamson was/is. I think these guys are one of those underrated bands of all time. Phenomenal musically, and the charisma was awesome. Glad they are still trying to do their thing, but it is just too hard to try and listen to anything Big Country without Stuart at the helm.

    Stuart Adamson, the reason I started playing guitar - As many here have said, such an under rated guitarist. I remember getting a photocopied newsletter in the late '80's from Sound Control in Dunfermline, amongst the guitars for sale was Stuart's sienna sunburst Fender Strat - £279, which was about 4 months wages for me on a YTS scheme - But how I wish I could have bought it.

Had the pleasure of seeing them a couple of years ago in Fleet, Hants. No Stuart of course but still bloody brilliant. My lad who was 11 at the time wanted to go too so incredibly they became his first ever gig as well

    Yeah BC were brilliant like so much energy and skills on stage. Put on my old check shirt (decade before awesome grunge ripped off that look) almost made it band like Simple Minds known for one song. Had the gift and talent to reach U2 status. Scottish tuned guitar. Stuart Adamson was only 43 another musical pointless suicide. Cheers for posting this PortlandHORRORagain uplifted and inspired me.

    • @snoddindaburgh
      @snoddindaburgh 8 років тому +1

      +Darrin Beazley What is Scottish tuned ???

    • @Mudge07
      @Mudge07 7 років тому +1

      Darrin Beazley A combination of playing techniques created that great sound: using open strings to create a vibrant "drone" akin to drone pipes and a descant melody, rack effects to exploit the pitch-shifts in particular 5ths n 8ths, and a passion for the music of their family homeland and residence ( both Bruce and Stuart regard(ed) themselves as Scottish although their birthplaces are Canada and England respectively). Another element is the Tony's use of his bass lead lines added to Mark's syncopated, drum tattoo patterns gives that definitive driving rhythmic stamp of their creative and skilled playing. Just a few ingredients to a mighty recipe!

    Man, I'd Love to have a Digital Remastered Version of this, both the Video and the Audio. I'd 'separate' the Tracks: Audio from Video, 'use SMPTE', and then Re-Process, Each Separately, and, then Burn it to DVD, that way. The Energy is HUGE!! ;)

      This performance (from July 1986) was released on DVD in 2013 as part of the "Big Country at the BBC" 3 CD / 1 DVD box set. It looks a lot better there than it does on a compressed video upload here, but what you are talking about would probably look and sound even better than the boxed set version.
