That was a great clip! Thanks Robert!! Many years ago! LOL :/ I had a racing car that I got back and thought that before I got the engine rebuilt! Great update. For me, the two things about this car that felt like scratching on a chalkboard were 1) the high seat rails and 2) the engine sounds being pumped in the through the speakers. It baffles my mind that Toyota made the seats sit that high with that wonky tubing but it's great that you fixed it. Also, even though you removed much of the sound deadening material did you leave the pumped in engine sounds in place? I loved seeing the interior tear down and it would be great to see another video that shows how the changes were made. The build process is fascinating. Another part of this video that I'm stunned by is how fast and smooth this car is with a three cylinder engine the size of a paper grocery bag! Wow! This is real 21st century technology, folks. Amidst the hoopla about electric cars the internal combustion engine was reinvented. Maybe it's because I take the subway everywhere but I'm in awe with the GR Yaris.

Toyota has a golden PR opportunity here to cover everything under warranty since the data didn't show anything out of the ordinary, but probably some bean counter will screw it up for the sake of a few thousand euros because they don't understand how influencing works in the internet era.
Maybe if he hadn’t of admitted to money shifting it on a UA-cam video they would’ve covered it... They can’t cover it now without covering anyone who damages theirs through user error, and that would get way too expensive for them.
They maybe can’t cover all the damage but possibly cover a percentage under goodwill - Ford have the DAWA scale for such purposes which gives the dealership an allowance scale for goodwill and if you’ve owned the car from new and are a repeat customer you contact customer services who can improve on the dealership scale
Those bean counters aren't accountants, they are lawyers, and they might not understand how "influencing" works, but they do understand how the law works. Question on if the ECU says the engine didn't exceed redline, how the damage occurred. Not about liability, but about the mechanics. Is the factory redline slightly too high?
If you held the car to the floor in neutral it has a rev limiter. If you take any car and go 100mph then shift into 1st gear and let the clutch out.it’s going to over rev...it’s mechanical..think about it. Nothing to do with the ECU the engine could actually be off ( not running) and the engine would be turning over beyond its rpm limit. A person I heard of, hauled a jeep behind his RV and the jeep was in a lower gear at highway speeds on long road trip. When he arrived at his destination the engine in the jeep was totally destroyed...big hole in engine block rods broken etc.
@@300zxdriver Oh, no, I get the mechanical aspect of an over-rev. Just in an earlier video, Robert seemed to say Toyota said the ECU did not indicate an over-rev, which I took to mean Robert did end up catching the mis-shift before zinging the rpm over the limit. Else the ECU would have the data to indicate how high the engine speed did go. So, if the ECU didn't record an overrev and Robert caught the 5-2 shift within 100rpm or so of the limiter...is the limiter set a bit high?
Great to see the yaris back on track, think everyone has a bit of a soft spot for the GR now, Robert don't break it again or I'll have to come a take it off you 👍
Looking forward to more taxi rides in this car! It's one of the few cars we can easily get, both in EU and in the Philippines (tax here is absurd a brand new GT2RS costs about P36M or about 630K Euro). I'm interested in seeing how the GR Yaris can stack up against the other Nordschleife regulars!
Great to see you out and about in the Yaris. Quick question have you got the cylinder head back and what are your plans with the cylinder head. Are you going to modify bigger valves gas flow?
Did they change the "Turbo"? With stuff going trough the exhaust I would want it completely checked out and used as a spare with a new turbo in it's place.
@@RobertMitchell You commented a couple of times about LS-swapping it. Have you actually started giving that serious thought, or are you going to rock the classic motor for a while? Not going to lie, there's something pretty restful about listening to that old warrior purr along - it almost qualifies as gearhead ASMR! 😂
Be interesting to hear how the warranty looks now? Is it void? Are there certain things they'd no longer cover? Or are the parts covered under new warranty?
WOW, dealership team did an amazing job there, congratulate them on behalf of all youtube. No point beeping the Yaris horn in a tunnel - mine's even quieter than the exhaust!! More weight-saving I guess!
Awesome Robert!!!
Glad to hear it is even better now.
I like the sound very much 🚀 way better than before
Back to life, and now even better!
“Oh what a feeling!” Happy for you to have the car back sounds good, call up xthilox and do a lap together in your respective Yarii trading positions. And share footage and audio.
One of my new favorite channels !
Honored to hear this VGK!!!
Great to see you out and about in the Yaris. Quick question have you got the cylinder head back and what are your plans with the cylinder head. Are you going to modify bigger valves gas flow?
No I’m just leaving it stock. For the ring it doesn’t need any more performance
Loving the videos - these are ever more important to see since we can't leave the UK!!!
Did they change the "Turbo"? With stuff going trough the exhaust I would want it completely checked out and used as a spare with a new turbo in it's place.
We need the Silverado lap😃
Coming soon on misha channel:-)
@@RobertMitchell You commented a couple of times about LS-swapping it. Have you actually started giving that serious thought, or are you going to rock the classic motor for a while? Not going to lie, there's something pretty restful about listening to that old warrior purr along - it almost qualifies as gearhead ASMR! 😂
Be interesting to hear how the warranty looks now? Is it void? Are there certain things they'd no longer cover? Or are the parts covered under new warranty?
I don’t expect much help on warranty going forward
Omg the red seats would have been unrealllllll
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
WOW, dealership team did an amazing job there, congratulate them on behalf of all youtube. I'd like to know the price of the repair, just to get an idea of dealership rates...Always wonder why YTbrs are so criptic about prices, can understand sometimes, but not in these cases. Also the price for the sexy recaros (love this brand sooo much I have 16 seats) and the harnesses. the car sounds amazing, your driving is a delight to watch. Thanks!
Tell Tom I said CONGRATULATIONS!
