One thing I love about Prey is just how it treats the concept of "shouldn't be here". Yes, you went way off the main-story track and found tough enemies and areas with no clear story purpose (yet). But nothing was broken: it was possible to sneak past to other places, Elazar spotted you and called to acknowledge it, and the game subtly keeps you away from later parts of the main plot while you explore. Valid way to play and I'm so impressed they wrote it like that!
I didn't go alien either (I think I eventually did, I can't recall). I recommend gunsmith and the other one that allows upgrades non-security weapons, so you can upgrade the shotgun, and the disruptor. The disruptor is vital the last part of the game. You should be able to fabricate upgrade kits. Having upgraded qbeam and pistol are important too. ..That is why I couldn't go alien if I recall, I focused on getting the guns as strong as possible. Strong guns will make your life easier

Why do you initiate every attack on a typhoon with most of your guns almost empty? Why are you surprised when you get hurt as you didn’t reload all your guns before you attack? It’s really frustrating to watch repeating the same mistakes.
There are more important stuff going on in the world to be frustrated at than some gamer not living up to your gaming standards. And then publicly complain about it! No humility.
