Super helpful review. I really love that you are giving people objective data on common masks, based on testing the entire mask on the same exact machine used by NIOSH.
I think the data that you are showing, is the kind of data that every major seller of masks should have to put on the package of their masks. People should be able to select their mask based on their actual objective performance, and even masks that are not NIOSH rated should have to state their breathability and their filtration level so that people can make informed choices.
I would even like that information for NIOSH rated masks like those made by BNX, because merely passing the NIOSH standard doesn't tell us where within the wide range of acceptability the mask falls. The breathability of NIOSH rated masks is an old standard, and masks that are pretty low in breathability can still be NIOSH rated.

Thank you Gerard! We're glad we can provide this resource. Our goal is to always be as objective as possible and let the results speak for themselves.

Let's remember that, for a while, it was thought that just preventing kids from hacking droplets on each other was about the best we could practically do. This is a good demonstration that a genuine "filtering" mask would likely provide higher protection, now that is no longer villainous for the general public to acquire one.

There was a lot of back and forth during the early days of the pandemic, specifically with masks. However, we're glad that information regarding quality masks that offer the greatest protection is becoming more normal. This is information that has been around for a very long time, as Aaron Collins mentions, it's just unfortunate it took so long to get things right.

Thanks again for another useful video! Crayola would never have been a top choice mask for me. I still hope you can test the Suzhou Fangtian FT-N040 mask from Amazon. Nobody else has tested it and I am very curious about it as it is a very comfortable mask!

Oh no, the air flow resistance sucks 😞

Both the filtration and pressure drop were not very good to say the least.

Poor filtration, awful breathability. Why do so many makers of kids' masks want to kill them?! Yeesh!

Not trying to argue, but it also would have been nice if the U.S. entered 2020 having plenty of "kid sized" masks of high technical quality. Hopefully, we learned our lesson on that.

I don't even think we've done the right thing for adult-sized respirators... not masks... high-filtering masks that leak like sieves around the edges don't cut it. South Korea did it right ahead of time by creating and making KF94 respirators for their general public. It boggles my mind that the "free" government stockpile N95s distributed to pharmacies et al on the backside of the Omicron surge are *still* available, have not been snatched up by the public. I've been getting 3 Aura's every week for weeks now.

@@q20a08 We so haven't. There is no kid's respirator standard in the US. There isn't even a non-industrial standard. NIOSH respirator standards are made entirely with occupational use in mind.
