When I was in elementary school my school made a whole event out of the total eclipse. A nice memory for the kids

That's what I just said. Take the opportunity to teach kids about astrology and how our solar system works. How expensive is it to buy some cheap cardboard glasses?

That doesn't make any sense. Keep the children in school. Kids doing school work, won't be able to lookcat the sun.

I'm 67 and In my lifetime schools never closed for for a solar eclipse. Schools across the country are closing and that doesn't make sense. Could there be some other reason and if so what ???

I'm 41, and in Pennsylvania, we did have early dismissal. And some parents didn't even send their kids to school. One time, the school gave us some special glasses to look at the eclips. But every case is different.

we had this happen before and no such problems happened. These claims made here and by other schools make no sense. Some are calling it a Calamity day. Some claim traffic problems. They are NOT telling you the truth about this and why closing the schools is their true reason.

Why don't they let the kids watch the eclipse though cameras set up outside and the image projected on a screen in the auditorium or in the classrooms? For younger kids, who may risk having eye damage, it may be a good option, as in an auditorium there is no chance of sun damage. For older kids, they can stay in class an extra hour or so, watch it on the screen or TV and look outside to see the darkening of the surrounding area. Being inside, the teacher would be able to prevent someone from staring up at the sun, during the dangerous period, which probably lasts only a few minutes. If the eclipse occurs after class hours, the teachers can recoup the extra time spent in class as a pedagogical day or get credit for it some other way.

If course we had blinds in school, they were pulled down and we weren't allowed to look out when I was in school.

This is just an admission they can’t even educate the kids the sun is dangerous to stare at 😂

Why not use it as a learning opportunity? Order the special glasses, do a fun experiment and TEACH! That's what schools are for!
