Here's a thought, keep the students, provide them with the glasses you can buy at any store in the region for a dollar and have them all watch the eclipse as a school activity. That makes far more sense then sending them home early disrupting the parents lives just because the school doesn't think their students are smart enough not to stare at the sun.

We all know how hard it is to control kids that don't like to listen now and do opposite of what they are told. Imagine a whole district telling all kids don't fucking be dumbasses and take your protective eye equipment off and look up. Answer honestly, do you think they would listen? Don't you think groups of kids would disobey an d exactly the opposite of what they are told? If this happened, and students were permanently blinded how many parents do you believe would try to sue? Especially in this day and age, Karen's come in all shapes and forms.

Wouldn’t it be smarter to use the eclipse as a learning experience? They would be taught the dangers of looking at the sun and learn something about astronomy.

Heck ya!!! The way people get on schools and sue them!! I would let all kids out. They are not smart enough to listen anymore. I am for it!!! Saves on lawsuits for the schools!!!

Why don't they just make eclipse viewing devices like we did - in kindergarten - in the 80s??? What a crock.

If the school is concerned about student safety, keep them in the school until the eclipse is over!

When i was a kid, there was an eclipse and the school simply taught us how to look safely and cracked on. Schools are to scared to do anything that makes them liable now days

How did we survive previous solar eclipses? Such paranoia today. Get the glasses for them!

So, keeping a democracy depends on having an educated electorate that can discern political solutions and the people who represent those solutions. The lack of education in the US is a major reason for why America is currently in such political disarray.

A school isn’t capable of making sure every child has glasses or doesn’t look it’s impossible. It’s not safe. Children do whatever they want. Unless they have a teacher on every kid, someone’s gonna look and the school would be held liable.

So sending the kids home, unsupervised is smarter? What's to say they aren't going to look at the sun from their yards? All this does is allow the schools to say "not our concern" instead of "this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to give the children a memory they will have for their entire lives, supervised and safer than saying gtfo and do whatever you want, we don't care."

This is just an admission that the teachers can’t even educate the kids the sun is dangerous to stare at 😂

I PERSONALLY COMMEND THE SCHOOL FOR TAKING THE 'PREVENTION BETTER-THAN-CURE' APPROACH. THEIR JOB IS TO ALSO CARE ABOUT THE HEALTH & SAFETY OF THEIR STUDENTS.

Parents should be required to send their kids to school that day with the protective glasses they need for that day. Those kids who don't have the glasses should be kept at home with their parents or babysitter.
