LEGO 2K Drive Review

- LEGO 2K Drive reviewed by Luke Reilly on Xbox Series X. Also available on Xbox One, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.
"One part The Crew 2, one part Mario Kart, and one thousand parts… LEGO parts, LEGO 2K Drive is a wild and whimsical all-ages kart racer that’s buried itself under my skin like the pointed edge of rogue plastic brick underfoot in a messy kid’s bedroom. Better still, it’s one that embraces the total creative freedom real LEGO affords like few games before it, with an incredible custom vehicle creation tool that’s just about worth the price of admission alone. The current inability to share those designs with others is disappointing - particularly in the shadow of another tedious microtransaction store - but LEGO 2K Drive is certainly the fastest and funniest way to rock out with your blocks out in recent memory." - Ігри
Game looks fun, but micro transactions on top of an already questionable price tag are a no no for me. Definitely holding off to see how the game develops.
micro machines
Please pray for Grand Theft Auto 6 out and for rain in Novocherkassk
Yup, seems like they are taking a page from diablo 4 and other full priced games that have in game shops.
IMO no game should get more than a 7 for predatory microtransactions. Maybe an 8, if it's a special case or something. But this time, it should be at most a 6, because it's a game for children and is implemented in a premium game. Generally, also, items obtained through microtransactions are much worse value than cosmetic DLC.
Even without the DLC and microtransactions, this look like a tiring cumbersome grind of sidequests that makes no sense. This looks painful to play compared to the FH series.
It's insane how much better this guy's reviews are than anyone else at IGNs are BY A MILE.
cause he is the car game reviewer. pretty sure if they told him to review an rpg he will give it a low score
Nice if he mentioned multiplayer tho
@@kigeruse*sports reviewer.
don't you guys say this anytime anyone rates a game positively?
@@barrettbirks1058 out of all IGN reviewers he is the most consistent
Game needs an update that allows the community to share builds/ build plans
Yes!
Yessss. Like Modnation Racers
Yes
Seems like that would be a given
There is. It's called the Creators Hub.
Luke is by far IGN's best reviewer, especially with the racing games, give this dude a raise, he nails it every time ! ! ! ! ....
Luke possibly would get a raise
Nails it every time? LMFAO he gave this overpriced microtransactions battle pass predatory game an 8/10. No way you gonna say he nails it every time 💀
If they brought back the vehicles falling apart like they did in lego racers 2 to the point where you can just become a running minifugure, it woulda been way more interesting and funny
This still bring nostalgia to those who have played lego racing many years ago.
Lego Racers*
IGN gave it a 8 in case you don't want to watch the whole video
Why did they gave it a 8?
@@HanuNL If you watch the video you might find out.
@@OaksCU1bro 😂
it's a 6 at best
Thanks, Chad.
Bro 70 game + microtransactions is insane
That's 2K/EA/etc games for ya.
Where monetization is concerned, NEVER trust anything with “2K” literally in the title.
You ever heard of call of duty lol
@@CapnBreeze atleast one can unlock stuff that is not apart of the battle pass at a reasonable rate, even faster in some cases.
Welcome to modern multiplayer gaming
This looks like it could be neat, but the microtransactions are a real blow. Love you mentioned Sonic and Sega All Stars Transformed, now that was an heck of a kart racer.
The micro transactions aren’t even bad bro 😂 this game is awesome
They seem minor
What a shame, was considering buying my first lego game since lego island 2 but this is such a turn off.
IGN should give this man a raise. He does racing game reviews SOOOOOO well.
So disappointed the devs couldn’t hit 4K on this. Putting 2K on the box is such an odd choice.
😆
LEGO 1440p Drive
@@blueblur98 2K = 1080p FYI

Ba-dumm-tss!
The story is around 6 hours to beat, there’re insane amounts of micro transactions, and its a $70 premium price tag.. wait for a sale!
6 hours? Must have not given a single hoot about doing anything else on the side, or exploring what else it has to offer while roaming. Took me 20.5 at a moderate pace.
@@residentzach damn 20 hours on a Lego racing game?
@@crazygamingyt7245 dude it's fun af, building mechanic is cool, plot is funny, lots of one liners. Just finished uni for the summer so spare time was welcome 😎
It's on sale on PSN for about $46
Finally!
After all these years!
LEGO RACERS 3!!!
Without Rocket Racer
Oh the nostalgia of Lego Racers
First thing that crossed my mind. The sequel every kid in our childhood wanted :D
It would be awesome being able to have deliver our custom vehicles as custom real life Lego packages! Like an old Lego Desktop program did!
Picked it up for my son. He loves it. The building aspect is a game in itself. Racing is fun but not challenging for an adult. It is designed for a younger audience. The price tag is unfortunate, it doesn't have a lot of content at launch. 7/10 for me so far.
Rating a game that costs like a huge AAA title, and yet is filled with microtransactions, 8 is MADNESS.
How can anyone be okay with this?
If 2k hasn't learned the lesson from EA's battlefront, then we have to teach them, not cheer them up and give positive reviews
It has sadly worked so far for 2K games, with NBA and WWE games costing full price + microtransactions. Weirdly enough, the PC versions are also just last gen versions. They definitely don't display much care towards making customers happy.
everyone on steam is already hating the game for the microtransactions, so it already has a bad review, but we all know they just keep earning the money from the wallets of many kids parents
Yeah but he thinks the game is fun, and that’s what determines the true verdict
The price tag and microtransactions are crazy, but you can't (or shouldn't) lower the score dramatically just because of its business model. The score should be determined by the combination of all factors (gameplay, performance, story, etc.).
@@kubok3596 Value...It doesn't look like this game has $70 in value. Would have been priced much better at $30, trying to get it in as many houses as possible and profiting off the microtransactions. Many won't buy it because of the microtransactions. Others won't buy it because the price tag is too steep for the game that it is. Others aren't going to buy it because it is a very short game that is only made longer because of tedious tasks. All of those things are reason enough to rate it a 6 or lower.
Car game = Luke
Thanks for another great review. I’m quite interested in checking this out!
Not gonna lie, the game's genuinely really fun. LOL Been playing it the past two days in the early release build.
*I'm not gonna lie, I'm not gonna lie.*
Build... Lol
@@Coldfeverx3 They always lie
How have you not finished it already 😂
Can't wait for the sequel: lego 4k drive
And the third game would be LEGO 8K Drive
Looks great! No mention of multiplayer? Is there splitscreen? Online only?
yes with crossplay
split screen is a very important factor for me too, especially for this kind of racing game
it's strange that they wouldn't even mention it in the review, since they even compared the game to mario kart
They forgot.
Nothing saves in coop
Lego Racers was my favourite game back in the day, I'm interested in this at a sale
It looks really fun, I’ll be downloading this game next month. As it will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
we’re all back because it’s free on PS+ right now lmao
Fax
Anyone else here after the PS+ December 2023 announcement?
Microtransactions... Man, 2K cannot stop 2K-ing
Game looks fun, I'd buy it if it had included everything for $40
Black Friday purchase for sure.
Watching this bc this game is gonna be on ps essentials in December.....
Game is on PSN now
This review was really well written.
no split screen and micro transactions are a big no for me but it does look super fun will wait for sale
It has split screen though??
2 players.
Split screen and online
Crossplay online play and 2-player splitscreen is included
On sale now
An freaking 8 out of ten?! That is too dang generous for something that is this overly monetized! The fact that that this screws over Switch players by not having a physical cartridge and pulls an Overwatch 2 by requiring a account from younger players makes this more warranted of a six for those reasons alone. This is too overly generous of an review!
Why does nobody talk about the absolutely brutal on-the-go missions
To mention the list of previous games who did kart transforming and not mention the original being mario kart with the underwater propellers and in at hang gliders, and mag lev swap to a lesser degree. These other games took that formula and just took them to the extreme with full transformations into actual boats and flying vehicles for longer sections
Rock out with your blocks out... What a way to end it.
It’s like a remastered LEGO racers!
keep this guy around
they really should've made everything in the environment also made of lego
They never done it in any lego games before
@@Mike-ye6xi Yes, they have in Lego Worlds and it works pretty well.
Lego movie game and second game everything is Lego
feels like the kind of game that will be free on ps plus in a year
you nailed it bro!
$60 price tag + microtransactions means this is probably gonna be a pass from me. Would love to try out the building mode, but not when nickel & diming is taking precedent
You guys never stop posting 24/7
Luke is my go to guy for racing reviews.
"Rock out with your blocks out."
-IGN 2023.
This is only a 5/10 at best , the micro transactions in a lego game is disgusting and will lead to kids getting brain washed into buying lego bricks.
Its a wait for a sale or wait for it on game pass
What mid take.
No. So bad, not even worth pirating lmao
Gotta leave a like for the interceptor
"Rock our with your blocks out" lmao this guy's is brilliant
Nice review! Got from ps+. Haven't tried yet but will
I'm just happy to see Mad Max get some love
“Shifting Bricks”. Lmao. Love that Aussie humour. Great pun! Edit: And he ends it with “Rock out with your blocks out!” Absolute legend lmao.
Appreciate the nod to the last of the V8 Interceptors 🚨💅
The Lego games keep on getting better and better!
Shame about the micro transactions that nobody likes
@@dogbog99 true.....😞
Luke Reilly makes THE BEST game reviews at IGN.
Just installed this on my Xbox via game pass I’ve barely touched the surface but already love it’s like Forza Horizon but all in Lego not just a dlc I’ve got the complete edition saved on my wish list….bring on Black Friday!!! 🤞🤞🤞
It's on the PS store for $46.19 which is 34% off that's the base game the "Awesome Rivals" edition is $79 down from $120
Buying this the moment it gets its first sale.
On sale for $46 dollars now
Awesome LEGO 2K Drive Review Video.
70 dollars, season passes and micro transactions? Nah, I’ll wait for the complete edition in 5 years.
We all know Recoil was the OG driving mode shifter
DRIFT: you can change it in the settings menu so that you don't have to hold down the break button to drift.
Another great review Luke!
"Shifting bricks" 😂😂
A store in games that are meant for everyone should be illegal.
Sadly the large price tag and the "scamy feeling" microtransactions make this a no for me.
Looked like a great game, microtransactions is a turn off though. I'll wait for the game to be on sale for a couple bucks down the line like all Lego games and the ingame store is closed and all content unlocked on startup. Unfortunate...
Luke is the best IGN reviewer
10:17 THATS THE DRAG-U-LA!!
Anyone remember Lego Racers?
6:50 exactly that...
ive spend more time building cars than actually driving them =D
70$ for a Lego game that looks like it’s should be worth 40$ max and full of micro transactions, or the new legend of Zelda game….. well if nothing else thanks 2k games for making my game choices a little easier and saving me money release after release.
Activision Shoot HAHAHAHAH that caught me off guard LMAO
the title should've been Lego Racing: All Bricked Up
For a game that has a $100 version for sale the review should have gone in hard on the mtx, that's shameless
A child me would love this game so much
Slap it on game pass like they did with Lego Star Wars, and maybe I'll play it
Look at that, it actually runs fine. If only more game developers actually cared about releasing a functioning game.
man this should have been a free to play. they killed themselves, there is 100 options for kart racing, and at the end they all feel short to mario kart
Ford Falcon XB GT 1973 as the v8 guzzler fueled ny vengeance.. MAD MAX ❤❤❤
first thing that came to mind was Hotwheels Extreme Racing on PSOne
Brick Rigs was a missed chance by a game developer without experience
Game looks like lots of fun. Just disgusting that there are microtransactions on a game that already costs $60
Lego Racers lives!! :D
Got to wait for a deal, it's rediculously priced for 8 hours of gameplay atm
The score is 8
Beat me!
Why is it a 8?
Thanks, legend.
@@HanuNL Watch the video and figure it out. 🙏🏽☺️
This game looks golden but those microtransactions and multiple versions absolutely ruin any chance of me ever buying this
Okay I'm sold on the game.........time to build some Batmobiles
Brewsters Millions is getting a remake and he's just gonna play Lego 2k for a week
My favorite kart racer will always be crash team racing. Sad the remake never came to pc
i've wanted "lego racers 3" for over a decade. i'll wait for the "deluxe edition" to go on sale. :)
'Activision shoot' made me roll over
I’ll give it a shot because I’m a Lego fanatic. We just need a remastered Lego Racers, thats it. 8/10 is a fair score :)
Man to see Lego Mars brought back would be amazing. That was my favorite world in Lego Racers 2
Lego fanatic?I'm a lego addict 😂
Pretty cool Lego game!
2K is the price after all the microtransactions
Please make a video with the build of the black car
That F1 LM in the thumbnail 😮💨
if you can catch my drift *facepalm* seriously this guy is the best reviewer, it's a shame he's usually racing game focused
This is if Lego City Undercover and Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed merged
Forza horizon and Mario kart
Are you going to make a review for TT Isle Of Man: Ride On The Edge 3?
Jus put this on my Xbox one thru game pass ‼️ this game is tons of fun‼️ 💯💯💯
An 8 for a kids game with predatory microtransactions means IGN reviews should be ignored.
5:40? No time. Need to be done by 5:40 and it's 5:40 right now.
