    Has Ember addressed the black floor and leaking issues?
    We like them and want one but have read so many things about these issues.
    Thanks.

    I have a Basecamp 20x (purchased at Windish RV) and definitely prefer it to the Ember (or any other "brown box" competitors).
    Airstreams hold their value better and despite some comments here, are better constructed.
    The Ember is basically a beefed-up JAYCO JAY FEATHER MICRO 166FBS.

    AirStream BaseCamp was made to be used with Small to MidSize SUV's that can tow MAXIMUM 5000 lbs. The Ember is way over 5000 LBS. You need a large SUV and/or a Truck. You can't compare the two - apples to oranges.

    Basic requirement for a modern off road trailer is an articulating hitch. Neither has one. These are very light off roaders at best. And why would ember put a fridge above the outside griddle? Going to be fun accessing that while cooking.

    Airstream basecamp has windows galore but most of them don't open and the ones that do only open a few inches. I simply adore the windows on the Ember, the screens, the shades and how they function. Just that one thing will make me want to buy an Ember over an Airstream.

    When looking at the two trailers you have an extremely high quality air stream product that seems to come up short in many categories when compared to the ember. Factor in the reduced cost for the ember compared to the airstream and you have a real winner. The items that put the ember ahead of the airstream in my opinion are the suspension and thicker floor. Both of the shells are top quality just different materials, azdel vs aluminum. Even if not climbing up remote fire roads that are poorly maintained the better solar package available with the ember is a winner between the two. My choice will be the ember brand unit as the ac can be run from battery power as well as other features but I will be looking at a larger unit than the one in the video.
    It looks to me like the folks at ember decided to see if they could not build something higher quality and better than the best unit out there, the airstream. Folks seem to forget that the airstream is a great design from decades ago that has been continuously refined. The folks at ember started with a clean sheet of paper and they are really looking to be better than the best out there. Both are very high quality and I suspect that anyone buying either of them will be very happy with their purchase for a long time.

    I'd miss the awning with the horse trailer, I mean Basecamp. OTOH, the Basecamp your kid can ride their pony right through the rear hatch. And the interior gives me the nostalgic feel of reminding me of my crew quarters on my frigate in the Navy, 2 decks below the main deck. That nice dark feel that made you sleepy just going down there. Ah....
    Sorry to be so critical of the Airstream, but it seems they just don't include a lot for the high price they charge. The Ember has so much more light, features, and not so enclosed feeling. And a dry bathroom, and real-sized refrigerator. 4 cubic feet in the horse trailer is the size I have in my office, but would never cut it for more than 1 person for more than a weekend.

    🥇Ember is awesome, vast upgrade over Airstream Base Camp. Acrylic Dual pane windows, etc.
    Two considerations with Ember
    1. Weight
    Heavy hitch weight & total Weight
    2. High Cost
    🥈Airstream Lighter weight but Potential Problems & considerations with Airstream
    1. Not proper off road suspension. Not sealed bearings and torsion suspension is not rated for any heavy or long duration off-road use. It simply will not hold up. The torsion axel is fine for smooth on highway use.
    2. Very limited interior space, limited water capacities
    3. High cost, Ember superior value of features and Benefits

    After doing some research, I'm pretty sure that the Ember has a slide out on the driver's side (for the sofa). Even though the interior is roomy enough without opening it, it's a HUGE fundamental difference from the Basecamp, a HUGE potential for problems, AND, it's a make-or-break feature for some buyers. So, why wasn't the slide out included in the comparison? I'm also pretty sure that Ember used Forest River's IBEX 19QBS as a floorplan template which is a great layout, too. Oh, and another important feature for comparison is awning capability. The Basecamp requires 2 people to slide a fabric tent through a channel, which is another potential deal breaker for solo travelers, especially those of us who are vertically challenged.

      @mikelander 4 місяці тому

      There are multiple awning options available for the basecamp, including roll out ones that stay attached. I personally like the Dragonfly but there are some other great ones as well that don't require multiple people or sliding anything through a channel each time.

    I like the axle less hubs on the Ember. The mechanical tire brake and adjustable coupler height are hype. To me the Ember is a typical travel trailer.

    The Ember is better in any way comparable.
    Ember RVs construction is not only better than this airstream, but probably top three in the marked. A reality roughed coach.
    It also has a fixed bed, almost three times the fridge space with exterior kitchen, probably 20 gals more of freshwater, better suspension...and the list on an on

      Have you owned one? The ember had tons of electrical issues and interior build quality issues. The Airstream has similar issues but plumbing related. I would say one company wins hands down.

    • @DisabledVet317

      I agree that off the lot Ember wins, but what about resale value? Airstream holds their value better than anyone. Not saying it’s the only factor to keep in mind when making a decision, but it should definitely be in the conversation.

    • @Erin-Thor
      @Erin-Thor Рік тому +1

      Agree, but… as a brand new product they have had some development issues. Like they mentioned, they are an electrical nightmare. Simple things like solar controllers can’t be set to work with lithium, which they ship with, controllers wired incorrectly etc., refrigerators and lights that don’t work, and when you investigate you find a juvenile cluster-muck of wires, some connected, some not, just hot wires swinging around. Floors discolored (look moldy) because of the wrong glue used. Sure their warranty covers replacement, but think… modern trailers are made with a single one piece sheet, then cabinets and walls etc. are installed. Replacing the whole floor isn’t cost effective, so the old floor is cut out around the cabinets, and a new floor installed with seams and un matching quarter round to keep it from curling up. It’s ugly. The big issue for me are the leaks, drive in rain, you have water intrusion in multiple areas, which has proven very difficult to locate and repair even after dozens of shop visits. I STILL want one, but… I’m going to wait until they stabilize their design and build processes.
