- Nelson Piquet was taken out of the 1982 race at Hockenheim when trying to lap back-marker Eliseo Salazar, and made his feelings VERY clear to the Chilean racer...

TheLindo98 How do you know all that, you were with them 😂😂😂😂
Piquet should have just kept it it to a Rijkaard /Völler "attack" instead of the possibly of breaking his wrists.
@TheLindo98 You are confused with the facts. Piquet never called back to Salazar to apologize. About the engine failure, Piquet was told about it during a BMW event, only a decade after that accident . Moreover, "the embarrassment of a engine failure" was that entire year when Piquet could finish only a couple of races due to reliability issues of the new BMW M12 engine. Piquet had only 1 victory in Canada during that season.
I remember seeing this live. God, I'm old!
You are old, Clarence. Soon you'll be dead in a coffin and.. that sucks. Good luck, though!

Piquet X Salazar >>>>> Verstapen X Ocon
xD
@Seth Raps why not?
killagain85 cause Max never helped Ocons career. The exact opposite. Ocon was leading the championship, but in the rain Max made him (and the entire field) look like clowns. So Max got the f1 seat while Ocon didn’t (that year).
@@Klont123 True. But it's also incomparable simply because Ocon was actually trying to unlap himself (he was momentarily faster due to fresh rubber) and Verstappen closed the door, whereas Piquet was just lapping Salazar who was a "normal" backmarker.
Verstappen x All
Oh, Salazar was being lapped and he mocked up with Piquet's race lead. At least he brought to us one of the funniest moments of F1 history 😂😂😂
This makes me mad even in sim racing.
No. The worst
He had that *Maldonado* shameless smile at the end. 😂😂
Same thing with max and ocon
I wonder what he's explanation was though, because he saw him (you can clearly see he is turning he's head and sees Nelson). Furious being lapped or what happened?
In January 2 2022 a video was uploaded of a show "Pero con Respeto" Salazar explained his side of they story. He said he was ahead of Piquet and when Salazar saw Piquet coming with the speed. He said "I opened myself to give room but it didn't work". So when they both got out of the cars Salazar tried to explain to Piquet what he was trying to do. But Piquet was in rage. Salazar also explained that he could not raise his hand to Piquet because he had immense respect for him. Also that Piquet was his mentor and helped him get into Formula1. Salazar did say that Piquet did apologized by phone and one time they took a picture for the cameras making fun of the event.
Yeah sure. Just as he got out and clearly see Piquet was frustrated he decided to immidiately pretend nothing happened and just walked away. Not even a gesture of trying to explain or anything
Yeah well of course it didn't work cause Salazar braked too late.
A Família Piquet não costuma dar bons exemplos.

Funny thing here. I have a video of myself as a baby shot by my dad in VHS in 1982, and you can hear the commentators on a TV on the background talking about this incident live as it occurred.

This Piquet guy seems really nice. Doubt he will ever say something rascist towards a black 7 time world Champion from Stevenage in the future.
when that alleged 7 time champion is first on the scene of one of the most horrific accidents ever, and is the one to remove the inured driver's helmet and hold his hand until medical help arrives, then he will be allowed to have an outburst the very next day . . . . and maybe even then his barbaric attacks against his own team over the radio will be justified too

How Senna managed to avoid this with Prost is pretty amazing. Certainly after Japan 1990 Prost should have been burning to slap him around.

Nah. It was karma for Prost. Prost wasn't burning to slap him because he knew he deserved it for the same thing he did to Senna the year before

I'm a huge Senna fan....but..... how you explained this was pretty much how it was.....apart from the fact that Prost MUST have known Senna's hyper-charged emotions and intentions in 1990 and could have still avoided it and just stayed out wide.
*Nelson "The Spider" Piquet...*
My 2 cents in the Piquet controversy: In some parts of latin america, calling someone "negrito" can be said as way to show love, affection or respect, depending on the context... Don´t know if "neguinho" in brazilian is that bad like the american N word, or he is being attacked for political reasons: he is a close friend of Bolsonaro....
Argentinian here, yes, we do call some people "Negrito" to show love but we kind of never use it on actual black people. It's disrespectful for them, probablly if you are close friends with a black person you can call it that way sometimes but it still feels wrong. Saying that, in an interview, televised, not cool. Hope this can be useful
He called every other driver by their name. But when it came to Lewis he said “neguinho”. Also, do you think Nelson Piquet “loves” Lewis Hamilton?

Great Piquet, he had a good reason to do that.
More strange news followed after that. A few weeks later, he was on the phone, blurting out apologies to Salazar about what happened. Turns out post-race inspection of the car showed the engine was JUST about to blow and ironically, the crash saved BMW the humiliation of seeing engine failure on home soil...
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting! HUH!!

In my opinion we need to evaluate the context: probably Piquet was still nervous from what he had seen the day before (he was among the first to comfort Pironi after his tragic accident); that's probably why he got such a lively reaction.
Salazar ahora como embajador de chile del E-prix de Santiago, al menos este próximo enero de 2020
Salazar was an exceptionally unskilled and unexperienced driver, he knew he had made a grave error that had no excuse, and accepted that Piquet was furious. Watch it a few times, Salazars line and direction made no sense.
In another recorded race i watched later Walker said something like "...with Piquet about to lap his old boxing partner", and i was thinking like "ok that guy probably live in Monaco too and is a gym buddy of Nelson", just to hear Walker continue speaking - "Salazar". I laughed at that several times, had to pause the race video.

80's Glory days for F1
Man the cars were so "cleaner" back then. Now you cant even see the driver
while this is true.....think about Grosjean's crash in 2020 or Alonso's in 2015. Neither of them would have survived if they were driving those cars in the 1980s. sure the f1 cars look crazy these days but at least the drivers are safe
You got better safety engineering solutions??
I was just 8 years old and I still remember this. By the way... I cheered up when Piquet fight with Salazar.
In my opinion Salazar caused this accident deliberately, you can see him glancing across to his right for a moment and seeing Piquet going past him and he then makes no attempt to slow down knowing that they will collide
