@@SteveBarna As a person who has played and beaten both I personally would say ER. Its hard for me to decide whats second best for me, X3 or GOW since I like some aspects of X3 more (story/music) and others from GOW more (environments/gameplay).
my fave for 2022 was xenoblade chronicles 3 I played on a borrowed switch but did not finish it, the intro music is still on my playlist.
I'm 185 hours in and I want more. It's definitely my game of the year.

Great review. It's up there for GOAT for me. Just fyi the characters are not set to particular roles. Lanz for example is good in various healing classes. Eunie good in various defender classes etc
Glad you liked it! I did not know that! I just assumed each character had stats/stat growth best suited towards their starting class. Makes me feel less terrible about having them all off role for most of the game.
Easily my GOTY. It somehow surprised me at every turn and exceeded all my expectations. I think this version of the combat system is near perfect.

I usually play most Xenoblade games 2 times, one just to play through them and one time to max out the battle system and taking down all super bosses.
This made me put 480 hours into the second game.
Xenoblade 2? Im about 5 hours into the game and am loving it so much.
I think it was quite easy to unlock the hero classes by attacking stronger enemies (preferably with a 250% multiplier) and then overkilled them for an additional multiplier up to 1000%.
Taking down 1 - 3 enemies like this easily pushes a hero class up to level 10.
It's easy if you can find higher level enemies yes. My issue was I did too much side content before continuing the story so I couldn't find any higher level enemies
@@capn_sarge Yeah sure higher level enemies will add an additional multiplier. But as I said just going after Elite or Unique enemies, then try to push the overkill multiplier as high as possible goes a long way alone. That will easily give you a bunch of CP which in turns level up your Hero classes. Trying to attack your level or higher level ones as well don't hurt as well.
Killing unique monsters also helps with maxing out a certain Hero in the game if you have him equipped on any character.
So it's sorta win win. Also on top of that you can replay already beaten unique monsters by going to their tomb stone.
I'm level 37 just now arriving to the area Where Eunie sees something that disturbed her(keeping spoilers away), am I too high level for these monsters? Or should I be stronger?

XB1 was my favourite game of all time before playing this, and now XB3 is my favourite game of all time. The story, the gameplay, the characters, the music, even the acting was all 10/10, I couldn't imagine it being any better
It's an incredible game for sure! An all time great
11:30 battle with enemy that are few level higher than your party is a mindest that many player developed in xenoblade x. Also, the type of enemy is important, some enemy give more experience than other
Great video! Something I love about XC3 as well is how much effort they clearly put into the voice acting, making it absolutely amazing, even to at a similar extent as the first game at some times. Xenoblade 3 is definitely my GOTY for 2022.

yeah, my goty as well, but i dont have a ps4, so i havent played elden or gow, so it is what it is lol still, amazing game.
2022 has been The Xenoblade Year. I started and finished Xeno2, Torna and now Xeno3. Xeno2 feels like an expanded experience of ps2 era RPGs, i feel like if i had been 14 (still on my hard weeb years), i would've loved it even more than FF7.
Xeno3 really feels like a thematic and gameplay-wise conclusion to the trilogy. We can only imagine what the story dlc will have in store for us in late 2023

I did much like you did and fell in love with the side questing and over leveled myself. wish they would have had the level down system in the first play through like you have in the NG+. Still really enjoyed the 100 hours i put into the first play through
Great video, I'm waiting for XC3 to get delivered now, very excited for my first Xenoblade game. What would you recommend if I want to do all the side quests but also make sure I'm not too overleveled to teach classes to party members (the 5 level cap you were talking about)?
Glad you enjoyed it! I don't really have a great recommendation for that since I didn't know about it until I was level 65 haha. Just keep an eye on the main quest enemies I guess? And once you catch them up in levels go do some side quests that are a little below your level?
Definitely check out the first two games in the series if you enjoy 3!
Ive played and beat Elden Ring and GoW Ragnarok, Im on chapter 5 of 7 for Xenoblade 3. So far I still would say Elden Ring is my GOTY, I doubt the last 2 chapters of X3 will change my mind but who knows. Xeboblade 3 was snubbed though for not being nominated for best story at the game awards.
It's definitely real close for me between elden ring and xenoblade but the story and combat was so good it edged xenoblade ahead for me by the slimmest margin

I've been doing all the side quests and over leveled myself...
The stat differences between the characters always seemed rather negligible in practice. Seeing as how easy it is to master classes (and there's a lot) I kind of assumed the point was to rotate everyone in the party to learn everyone's roles at some point.. so I'm having everyone master every class with the goal to unlock all the abilities for maximum customization. Almost there! I can't believe the amount of fetch, I mean quests there are.
Yeah I was trying to get everyone maxed to but I have always preferred keeping my party members to specific roles, even when I could have them be whatever whenever
6:16 What about how FFX did things? You still only had 3 characters out at a time, however you could swap them immediately between each other.
Ffx definitely streamlined it. My current GOAT. I do think for turn based games you need to limit the number of party members in combat. The issue I have is when the party size is so much larger than the battle party size
12:15 any character can use any class they don't have very meaningful differences in base stats so any character can play as any role class
Good to know since I pretty much always had each character "off role" for most of my playthrough
This game got me in to the series I have put bout 130 hours into this one and the first one definitive edition and 200 plus into 2 and bout 50 hours into torna great series and best in show period

Best in the franchise. I definitely enjoyed it more than Elden Ring.
The best xenoblade and maybe my favorite game for this year. But let's be honest, Elden ring is there. There's no way a niche game such as Xenoblade can beat such a giant.
Then again, I don't think prices are so important anyway.

Also, when is someone going to explain why this game series is called Xenoblade Chronicles. Its like one of those AI text generators named it, but before they were any good.

Well the term xeno means foreign, or different in origin, all three games in the series involve a blade that is foreign to the world it’s in, the aegis in xenoblade 2 being part of the trinity processor, the monado in xeno 1 being the same, and the sword of origin in xenoblade 3
Well, the first Xenoblade game wasn’t supposed to be a “xeno” game in the first place. The first game was originally called, “Monado: Beginning of the World”. The reason it was changed to “Xenoblade” was to pay homage to Takahashi-san’s previous works, “Xenogears”, and “Xenosaga”. It was suggested by one of the higher ups at Nintendo to Takahashi; the rest is history.

The combat just didn't do it for me. When i would try to do combos, id see that one of my party members would use their abilities on their own, so when i needed to use it in a combo, it was on cooldown... so i was like "yeah I'm not going to enjoy this"
Yeah I know what you mean. They use their abilities in cooldown so it can be hard to topple or launch sometimes. But honestly between the joint attacks and chain attacks you can usually handle any enemy even with the AI being a little wonky
I voted for Xeno 3 for GOTY, but let's be honest, Elden Ring will get the trophy... these awards are only about the most popular games, not the really best ones.
In fairness, Elden Ring is also incredible and made me remember what true "gaming" could be. A very close second for GOTY for me.
My GOTY is Elden Ring and Xenoblade is second. Ragnarok is third but only because I enjoyed the other 2 more
Yes enjoying something less is usually why it gets ranked lower. That's my top 3 as well! Outside of that it's been a weak year for games I think

It’s almost there but some bad pacing and bad villains ruined the game. Feel like xenoblade 2 had better side character and villains. Those mobius suppose to be a threat but i find most of them not doing their roles.

I beat the game and indulged in some endgame content. It’s definitely my favorite in the series but GOTY? Hell no.

@@capn_sarge I played every other GOTY contender and honestly the only game I’d place below XC3 is Horizon Forbidden West. It’s a great game and not I’m taking anything away from it but I just don’t think it can be GOTY. Monolith Soft has a ways to go before they can achieve that. Plus, ummmmm, have you played Elden Ring lol? I’ve always been a huge fan of the Souls games so it’s an easy pick for me.
@@AstonishingRed Elden Ring is a hair behind XC3 for GOTY for me. Elden Ring was incredible but the characters, world, narrative all put XC3 above it for me by the smallest margin. Other than those 2 no other game this year entered into the conversation for GOTY. Some solid games, but none reached the levels of those 2

I disagree this was my most anticipated game since XCX and it was completely underwhelming and it's a bad Xenoblade game. It's a good game but it a huge step down from 1 and X much like 2 was

@@capn_sarge partly I just have a problem with the way the franchise is going and i think 3 really hit home on what I'm not liking about it. I also don't like the rehashing of ideas from X with no payoff. I'm also not a fan of the game design and feel it's dumbed down from previous entries With that said the dlc could make me do a huge shift on it but considering I felt the game strayed too far from the stories of 1 and 2 and the went too hard on the not having to play them to get Xenoblade 3 I'm not holding my breath.

This game should be GOTY easy. GoW and E.R. are great games, but nothing captivated me like XC3 did. I purchased a Switch just for this title, and now have the entire Xeno collection from Xenogears, to XCX, to XC3. Best game series ever.
