I received my Puerto Rico citizenship certificate this week and now I qualify for the 2 year fast track for Spanish citizenship. Moving there in April. 😊🎉
The process took about a month. I provided my mother’s original Puerto Rico birth certificate, my original birth certificate and copies of my passport and sent them to the PR Department of State Auxiliary Services and paid the $30 fee for the “IRS stamps” since they don’t accept cash or money orders, from Colectura Digital in San Juan, PR who then sent the digital stamps on my behalf to the state department. I’m so excited. Need to decide if I will go for a NLV or DNV when I get to Spain.
@Boyridge thanks for the information! I sent MY birth certificate, both of my parents', their marriage declaration and included my driver's license number. My shipping is going to take about a week. Why does the turnaround take so long?
Cepee!!! Ran into ur vid while looking for citizenship in Spain as a Puerto Rican. I’ve had the idea to move to Spain, Barcelona and experience Europe. THANK YOU for this video
This is so awesome!!! I am from Argentina and always wanted to move to Spain and may be Italy. Will apply when I am ready. Do you recommend any lawyers that can help with the process? Muchas gracias :)
How much time must someone stay in Spain during the two years? I've read you can't leave the country for more than three months total during the two-year process. So about six weeks a year is allowed to leave Spain in order to qualify?
you forgot to mention that sephardi jews (and descendents of sephardi jews) who were expelled from the iberian penninsula in the reconquista can also qualify.
All those people who have the nationality of a country that at some point are part of the Spanish empire can obtain Spanish nationalization in just two years, which is why countries such as the Philippines or Brazil are included. The strange thing is that a large part of the United States was part of the Spanish empire: Florida, Virginia, Texas, California... their cities have names and were founded by Spain. That these territories are probably not included in the sea because of the British, since they were Spain's greatest enemy in the past, and the USA was a colony of them.
If you’re a dual citizen (US and another Latin American country), once you get Spanish citizenship, do you have to give up either one of the other ones?
What I’d like to know is a few things. What nationality other than USA did u use ? Did u use said nationality other than USA and apply at a Spanish consulate/embassy in the USA ?
What if I was born in CA but got naturalized in the US and have an American husband? I’ve heard all kind of things that I would have to renounce my US citizenship, is that gonna be the case? If I apply, will I be able to petition my husband as well? And kids?
You forgot about Western Sahara in West Africa. It was included in what Spain called “Spanish West Africa “ ( along with Canary Islands) Guam and Puerto Rico are also ex Spanish territory.
Hi William, thank you so much for watching. Great question. Not all former colonies or countries in Latin America qualify. Haiti is not one of the qualifying countries. :/
How how are you. I watched your video you made a year ago about getting Spanish citizenship in two years. I was born in California my mother is American and my father is from Panamá. I have Panamanian citizenship so I got two passports. In 2years if I want to apply for Spanish citizenship would I have renounce any of my citizenship because I’ve heard Spain doesn’t allow dual citizenship.
Thank you for stopping by! I don't have a personal recommendation but found this list of suggestion that people have used: spainguru.es/2021/12/14/can-someone-recommend-a-shipping-company-to-relocate-from-california-to-spain/ I hope it helps!
Unfortunately years living in Spain on a student visa do not count. You would have to be in Spain on a different kind of visa for 2 years in order to meet the requirements to apply for citizenship as someone from Puerto Rico.
Is this just the case for people from Puerto Rico? I am Dominican and am also thinking of doing the NALCAP could I apply for citizenship after the 2 years on my student visa.
And also I would like to point out, I went to the Spanish consulate in Chicago and they said the path thru former Spanish colonization descent is not true. I have a email from them saying it
Hi! That information from the Consulate is incorrect. People are still getting approved for Spanish citizenship through this path. It is Spain who processes the citizenship not a consulate in the US. The process is as follows: 1) Get a visa to live in Spain (non-lucrative, digital nomad, golden visa, freelance visa, entrepreneur, etc.) 2) Live in Spain for two years 3) Apply for Spanish citizenship in Spain (given that you have citizenship from one of the qualifying countries) I hope that helps!
do you think it’s possible to go on a non lucrative visa using my american passport and then apply after two years using my Brazilian passport? wondering if i would have any issues using one citizenship and then the other
@@SheHitRefresh Not sure if its only me but every time I click this link it only takes me to a Quickbooks ad lol. If you have the correct link for your video I will appreciate it. Thanks
I’m a Dominican citizen working on the application for American citizenships .After college around 2028 I would like to move to Europe. Would I have to live in Spain for 2 years with a visa to qualify to apply for citizenship there? Or would I have to live there as a permanent resident for 2 years ? 😅Meaning that I would need a visa first then residency ?
I was born in the Philippines but I moved to Canada since I was 13 years old and I am now a Canadian citizen (I'm 25 years old now.) Do I still qualify for those 2 years in Spain?
Howdy! I’m retired U.S. army currently resident of Texas. However, since I travel year round, I’m interested in obtaining NLV with intent to becoming citizen of Spain. I visited Rota, Seville, and boarded cruise in Barcelona. Since I have access to Rota US Naval Base as retiree, I’d be interested living near that area to avail of free space available flights to/from U.S./Spain. I hold two passports (American/philippines). Which consulate in Texas did you used to start your process? Thanks for sharing!
So the process takes longer than 2 years? Because you said the process could take a few years. I'm asking for my parents, my dad is from Venezuela so pretty sure he's eligible...
You can apply for Spanish citizenship after living in Spain legally for two years. After you apply you have to wait for approval. The approval process can take anywhere from 1-3 years right now. Before, some people had to wait 4-5 years?!
@@ecfont94 that's great! After their two years they'll be good to apply as long as they meet all the requirements, and then it's just a waiting game. Luckily it doesn't sound like they are in a rush.
My son lives in Spain . He has a NLV . I’m a Nicaraguan born but I have a USA passport . Can my son apply for fast citizenship because of me ? He needs a Nicaraguan passport ? He has a USA passport right now .
Spain is stunning . It has an awesome culture and weather. Spain also has the lowest crime rate in Europe BUT.....and this is a big BUT. Spaniards are fleeing Spain whenever they can because the taxes are overwhelming. Sad that Russia and China are about the two countries that are actually investing in Spain to any noticeable degree. I have been to Spain as a tourist and it is awesome but they have to make it more attractive to live there.
Hi, I am interested in submitting my paperwork through a Spanish lawyer soon to start the process. I am originally from Colombia and hold dual nationality as I hold Canadian and Colombian passports. I really liked your explanation as it was very clear. Based on my conversations with my lawyer in Spain I was told you do not have to renounce your other nationalities. In my case, he mentioned specifically Americans and Canadians can retain their passports. The process I am applying by is through the program Spain offers called Sephardic Jews.
One of your parents or grandparents have to be a Mexican Citizen you’ll have to show the Mexican consulate their birth certificate to prove relation then you can apply for Mexican citizenship by dissent. If they don’t have that you’ll have to immigrate to Mexico and wait
Are you eligible for the fast-track to Spanish citizenship?

How did it go ? How was the process to move abroad ?

Digital Nomad Visa, Golden Visa (Requires real estate investment of at least $500K) or Non Lucrative Visa.
If you’re a dual citizen (US and another Latin American country), once you get Spanish citizenship, do you have to give up either one of the other ones?
From what I hear you would have to give up the US citizenship & keep ur LATAM since those countries hold dual nationality agreements w Spain 🇪🇸
Yes and no. Verbally you have to, but they don’t check if you actually did give up your existing citizenship
I'm from the Philippines I'm qualified for 2 years citizenship 🤣🙂🤣
