That pause as john was getting off the chair was him looking at Rip as one of his children, but couldn’t muster the words to Rip.
I thought the exact same thing. Like he wants to say something, but holds back. Been cool to hear him say, "And one person I look at as my child that I'm prouid of...that's you Rip"
He ends up writing Rip a letter, basically telling him he is family and that the ranch will be his.
@@amorin329 that happened before this episode
I also was amazed at the presence of Rips character. It's not easy to convey that much... attention without saying much of anything. Amazing job by both ...
Who is the child he regrets? Casey? Pity would have to be Jamie I’m guessing
I like how Rip just sits and listens. No interrupting or unneeded words just someone who listens.
some times it doesn't take talking just a vacuum to hear your own thoughts rumble against someone else.
Listening in silence: therapeutic communication (nursing)
There’s a scene where John tells Rip he appreciates that.
"Cowards rule the world today." Truest words ever spoken.
Yeah. In the sense that old men have never not said things like that.
Most repeated phrase throughout history. Congrats, you are just like every over average mind through time.
A-fu@king-Men.
@kbob9625 ah and you are holier than thou huh?
@@sendingit2601 that doesn’t even make any sense…👍
Big open fire, whiskey and a couple of cowboys, doesn’t get any better 💙
I totally agree
Cowboys ❤️
thinking the same thing --
Yea I love getting all hot and drunk with other men
Would have been better if they weren't drinking Crown Royal lol
What John said about cowards who now rule is so true
complaining and blaming… so true
FACTS!
Amen!
It’ll come around eventually. It’ll have to get real bad first, but it’ll come around. It always does, one way or another. I hope I can raise girls to be strong enough to face it, and maybe that I’ll be there to help for awhile, if I’m lucky enough.
Fact!
It takes alot for John to say the words, but he feels it for every one of his children. He does love them.
Love how respectful Rip is towards John, warms my heart the man Rip is! ♥️💥
Respectful, or just biding his time?
@@eaglen00b makes for a fun storyline doesn’t that lol
@@eaglen00b
Biding his time for what. Casey and Beth stand to inherit the ranch as well as Rip because he's married to Beth. John save Rip from going to prison after Rip, as a young boy killed his stepfather after his stepfather killed his mother and sibling(s). John brought him into the ranch and taught him the values he has today. Beside, John asked Rip to take a dive when he fought Casey over who was going to be the foremost the ranch and Rip did. There were plenty of times Rip could've killed John when they were out alone on horse back. Rip could easily break John's neck and make it look to like Jon took a bad spill off of his horse. And even if he isn't getting part of the ranch, Rip Gaines nothing from crossing John and the rest of the Dutton family and everything to lose.
@@eaglen00b that would be a hell of a plot twist
Yeah. Rip is a multiple murderer, but it sure is heartwarming.
RIP is such a charming man, I know the actor is a very good looking man but I love how his character is written and acted, his calmness perfectly compliments Beths firey nature
Calmness? Do you know how many people he has killed and how to talks to the wranglers? He is showing respect to the boss
Rip is the child he can Trust.💯
Whenever they talk it seems that John really wants to tell Rip he's as much a part of the family as anybody. He doesn't have to say it. Rip knows it deep down in his heart. John knows that Rip would give his life to spare Johns. It's a beautiful unspoken relationship. Pretty wonderful. Great writing Taylor Sheridan 👍🏼❤️🤠
What John Dutton cares is not his life. Its his farm and the legacy it holds. John wants nothing more than to retire and hand it to his children. But none of his children will protect it after hes gone. What John wants is not someone to sacrifice their lives for him, but for the farm. And he knows that Rip is Loyal to him but more importantly, to the farm. Because to Rip, the farm was his home before John became his family. And Rip knows that John does everything he can to protect their home.
@@dogcatchen Well Thank you for the correction.😒
Love these quiet scenes with excellent acting and storytelling.
"Cowards rule the world these days. With coward rules and coward customs. To succeed today, all you gotta know is how to blame an how to complain. I truly believe it's the survival of the unfittest these days." - Pretty much sums up what we got going on right now
The dawn of the "Karen" era.
"Cowards rules the world these days." No truer words said.
true
Interesting thought, so the people who do absolutely nothing about it……..what are they?
Sure do

One child I miss (Lee)
One child I pity (Kayce)
One child I regret (Jamie)
One child I envy (Beth)
Great lines describing John Dutton's children.
Why does he pity kayce
@@judigemini178 Kayce suffered the most. His marriage troubles, his PTSD from military service, and all the problems that keep coming his way.
You can’t tell kasey was in the service. He’s too soft. I’d believe it about Rip before I would about Kasey.
@@PurpleSky56 Rip never joined the service, he was just a kid from the wrong side of the tracks. And Kayce just has PTSD, due to experiencing the horrors of war.
“And one another child he is so proud of he can’t muster up the right words to say it”
“Cowards rule the world.” - John Dutton.
Yet John was a coward in this episode. He created the problem between Beth & Summer, yet didn't want to deal with it.
@@tech-bore8839 why would he? Some problems ain’t for him to solve. There will come a day where John won’t be around. The children must learn how to deal with their own crap.

Best show I can remember and it’s gone after only 4.5 seasons
I love this Convo.
RIP in this scene just marvelous 😊
I miss this show so much. Hopefully the rest will come on Peacock eventually & I can catch up.
John never says Rip is like a son to him, and he doesn't have to. He knows it as much as we do.
Really hope this show doesn’t end. It’s the best.
I want it to go on for a few more seasons but at some point it has to end. I would rather it leave a bit too soon than stick around for too long.
@joemckim1183
I agree.
However, I think the woke jerks are coming after the show.
This is the best series ever!
And, I have seen many in my lifetime.
No series, their characters have made ne cry like this show: BETH ANN DUTTON & RIP WHEELER - separately and their flowing love ;
the greed of trying to take over someone's life just because they can, the music, and more.
F# progress.Itz regress.
The woke crowd is after this sjow: traditional man & woman relationship, no diversity, inclusion, equity.
It smells too much of Trump.
They dont want ' John Wayne ' characters celebrated .
@@josephagnello9335 better than breaking bad? Yellowstone is good, but BB is miles ahead (imo)
@@josephagnello9335you are so dumb. When you have no arguments bring up “woke”. You can’t even define woke. The reason the show is ending is because of Taylor Sheridan’s ego and nothing else.
This show has NOTHING to do with Trump and couldn’t be further removed from Trump.
@@Artuor.Morgan BB (from what I saw) is about dirty business, drugs and killings, deception, lies and illegal activity. Yellowstone is about the most pristine wilderness on planet that is being cared for and loved by bunch of good men, it's about legacy, respect, dignity, loyalty and let's be real. There is no more honest work you can possibly do. So you say BB is miles ahead, I'd say it's miles behind.

I love the scene where Beth reads the letter to Rip.

Pities Kayce
Regrets Jamie

Lo mejor de paramont
@@randomguy3618e’s stated on many occasions over the seasons how Jamie is his greatest disappointment and failure.
So no. It’s Jamie he regrets, not Kacey.
@@randomguy3618ity means you feel sorry for someone. He doesn’t feel sorry for Jamie, not anymore. He regrets him. He regrets putting Jamie on this path that has turned him against himself and the family.
He pities Kayce for everything he’s gone through in his life: PTSD from the war, his son kidnapped, losing a baby, putting him in situations he’d rather not have been in whether it be becoming livestock commissioner or dabbling in government.
Thanks for the recommend 👍
I like that part Kevin Costner I really hope you finsh out the rest of the seasons of Yellowstone it's a great show bring you're wife to the set with you so she won't feel lonely
I agree with you. Kevin Costner is perfect for this main character role. I couldn’t think of any other actor who could play this role. Maybe Tommy Lee Jones. Just saying .
I ended up having to tape this yrs, I bing watched it one Sunday. I can't wait for it to come back on. I missed all of 1923.
Really going to miss the show when it ends this year. But, have them on Blu-Ray to watch whenever the mode takes me. One of the best shows ever...
Can we acknowledge how good the name ‘Rip’ is for his character.
2:19 "... and one child that I'd like to call mine, which is you, Rip, but I'm a cold and calculating cowboy, and too much of a man to admit it, so a friendly slap on the knee it is"
and what would come after? Saying that is the "endgame" for Rip. It couldn't get any better for him no matter what after that. You ever saw what happened to people who got rich early? who retired early? all of them asked "and now what" You can never put the last piece of the puzzle in, because if you do, it's not longer a puzzle, it's a picture. Rip can still receive something, he's like a dog chasing bone, you can never give it to him unless it's the last thing you do, before you die. Hope you see the point.
Shows over when Coster and RIP leave.
Best show ever🇺🇸🏁🏴☠️
Before John got up he was about to say, "and one child I respect." And that child is Rip.
1:16 right there with you Kevin.
Truer words were never spoken...it is a world of cowards
Enjoyable
I like how Costener'words, regarding the cowards and the unfit, are the reference for every fossil that needs to find an external reason for his troubles.
I dont care what the circumstance is, no father should EVER regret their child!!!!!!!
Every word spoken in this scene is true in this world today. Very sad.
Canadian Crown Royal, well done.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I dream of a fire in a room like this , the lighting , the crackling , and to share it with the woman you love is just a slice of perfect.
I'd take a healthy young horse over a woman any day.
That’s Canadian spirit hehehe
This is meant to have us look at John and Rip as just two men having a heart to heart. Hard to swallow considering one is literally the world's worst father and the other is a cold-blooded killer. Glad this show is finally ending...
RIP WHEELER 😎 FOR PREZ 2024🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Such a cruel thing, to wish politics on that guy. Brutal.
I like their tussled hair as they’ve been wearing cowboy hats all day and the hair is accurate
I want that room/house.

Rip
A lot of truth in this short video
Comparing to 1923, I think Lee was probably similar to John Dutton Sr., while Kayce is similar to Spencer. Both men who have seen war, experienced PTSD, ran away from family obligations/responsibilities, etc…
that was such a fatherly smack on the knee
more like john has a one sided convo in rips presence lmao
Rip is just respectful and will always defer to John. He’s there and will answer if needed…John did not need him to in this scene.
Would rather have your regret than your pitty
Never a truer statement made “Cowards rule the World”
If Costner wants out end the show. Storylines on repeat. I think it’s headed for Texas anyway. JMO.
Yellowstone is okay. But 1923 is the Beast!!🔥
Wish we got more backstory about lee
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
Weak men create hard times.
Hard times create strong men.
It’s funny that John said “all you need to know is how to blame and how to complain” But he was complaining and blaming others right then and there.
Every word from John is true. Cowards....
alex, ill take favorite things to here when im drinking
John: "- My daughter... I commend you Rip, it must take a lot of courage to sleep next to that woman. 🤣🤣🤣
Rip: "- You know the old saying 'Don't go to sleep mad', that's never truer than my marriage."
John: "-Guess not..."
1:11 cowards let the “cowards” rule
Lee must be the child he misses, Kayce is the one he pities and Jamie is the one he regrets.
"Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” Michael Hopf's
It would be a better scene if they had something better than Crown Royal.
4:00 am...
That whole conversation as always was incredible but yeah..." See you in the kitchen at 4:00!" UGH..
They go sleep early so they wake up early.
And the meek shall inherit the Earth
Lee is obviously the child he misses, but which is Jamie and Kayce? I mean it could be either. He can regret how Jamie has turned out or pity him. Same can be said about Kayce, he pity’s what all has happened to him, but regret how he left things bad for so long. Which kid is which?
Poor Jamie!! I'm guessing he's the one John regrets!! Sadly all he wants is his father's approval!!
He's the one he pities because of his PTSD due to combat.
He is sure right about the cowards running the world. Time to fix that.
Rip gained like 30lbs since season 1
Ironic how all the conservative folks love this show. And hate Hollywood. Literally Hollywood is what funding, producing, and making this show 🙂
He envy's Beth, misses Kelly, pities Kacey and regrets Jaime ?
People in the comments section are the people he would be talking about. The people who know and do nothing. And after they read this, they’ll still do nothing.

Who stokes the fire?
Strong men make good times - Good times make soft men - Soft men make hard times. - Hard times make strong men
The next half of the season should be good. These last episodes were really bad.
Just don't see them drinking Crown Royal .
@Kevin Hester - Look how close they are to the Canadian border … makes complete sense if you’ve worked in the liquor industry. The closer you are to the booze affiliated to that area, county, state or country, the easier that product is to obtain. You also have to look at the population, weather, access to delivery routes, demand, etc. and whether it is easy or difficult to obtain products financially.
What the Dutton character intones in this segment is the socially obvious condition of "wild" and emotionally aggressive modern women, who suffer so little in the way of true consequences, for the wild level they "feel", and act out. Especially those on the extremities of beauty, as she is.
True words by John Dutton
in a world where cowards rule, it brings hope to see someone is bold and creative enough to write something like Yellowstone. It's so different, and real, and fictional. It's not Spiderman part 2, part 3 part 4, sequel, prequel, ..whatever derivative shits studios are producing these days
I was very pleased with the introduction of Summer and how she eventually changed her mind. I bet everyone would if they were given the desperately needed education.
He just couldn't say it.
why would he pity Kayce?
Is Kayce the one he pity’s? Why?
Maybe for his dead baby?
he should not pity Kayce he should not regret Jamie, and he certainly should not envy Beth, john is the author of all his problems, imo Jamie will be their salvation and Beth is going to die young only Kayce will be happy

"But that girl.... That child I envy."
"And you're the child I didn't give enough love to. At least I am able to do it now."

Because he's locked in a marriage without love.
@@henryrodgers1752 for real..
@@henryrodgers1752 Don't think that is it.
I'm 3 and a half seasons in and I believe the pity comes from the fact that he knows his son is a good person/human being and that he has had to be told to do and endure unspeakable things. From the war to protecting the ranch, pity comes from knowing that he will become just like him one day. A hard and ruthless human being, immune to doing bad things in order to protect what is his and, will in turn, teach his son to be the same. Turning good a man, bad, because there is no other option. He wishes with every fiber of his being that it didn't have to be this way. That I think, is where his pity comes from.
John and Rip is the real romance story in this show. Rip fellates John in nearly every episode.
He misses Lee, regrets about Kacey, and pities Jamie....but envy's Beth.
He regrets Jamie
@RandomGuy yes, who wouldn’t.
@RandomGuy apparently you don’t know who Jamie is.
@RandomGuy I think you mixed them up. I been there since day one. Funny if you look at what others said no one agrees with you of course.
John's a hypocritical piece of shit father who brought Jaime's disloyalty upon himself. He demands Jaime's legal expertise, yet treats him like shit and allows Beth to abuse him without being able to defend himself.
if they replace either one of these guys the show dies

Yeah. I wouldnt have the current luxuries & ammenities.
But it was not a coward's world.
It was better.
You looked at someone the wrong way, and the worst you possibly got was a slap or punch.
Now it can be a lawsuit, public shaming, and the end of your entire livelyhood. Maybe more.
Actually pathetic and disgusting.
Rip deserves that drink more than John. At least Rip actually did something about the fight between Summer and Beth, while John just sat on his ass. Funny how John brings up "cowards rule this world", yet he fails to consider he's one of them.
Johns just tired he’s old old man as they get older they want peace but he can’t rest
Just say you don’t like John and move tf on. He is old, and getting older. He can’t solve that kind of problem. Beth and Summer need to work that problem on their own terms. Stop blaming John and holding him to account for something that’s not his fault. Beth and Summer are grown ass women in their late thirties, acting like children. They needed to handle that business on their own. It’s not rocket science dumbass.
