When you said that she loves to be held, I immediately got tears in my eyes. Both of my girls were exactly like that. Extremely clingy. (Now they are teenagers), they always loved to be held. People would always try to tell me to “put them down”, to ‘train’ them (as if they were a dog?)….all I could do was what my heart was telling me. My house became a disaster, I got very little sleep…..but my babies were happy and gained trust in their world and our bond only got stronger and stronger. To this day the sound of crying babies tugs at my heart strings and makes me smile because I was always cuddling my warm little bundle soon after. I’m so happy that everything turned out well for you. Congratulations on your new family member 🥰. Take care of yourself too. Nola is beautiful. So nice to see Layla holding her new sister. Warm hugs to you!

Congratulations, Nova is adorable. I love listening to all her baby noises. The birth with my first born all I did was scream. Everyone told me to breath, but the pain was so extreme breathing was out of the question. I don't have PTSD from my screams, but my husband in the other hand never want to deal with it ever again. We have only 2 boys and I am happy with just them two. My other son was a little clingy but I didn't mind it. Today, he is almost 11 years old and still loves to cuddle with me from time to time. Wish all the best and cannot wait to see Nova grow next to her big sister. Take care.

Thanks for sharing the birth of Miss Nova…congratulations to you and your families…Nova is adorable and so fortunate to have such a nice mother and family… Nova sounds like when she doesn’t feel your warmth, she awakens…and then goes back to sleep once she gets warm in your arms again…my children were like that at birth and developed to sleeping and napping as they should…enjoy your time with the girls…I never regretted that my house was not spotless and at 75, the memories of the interaction’s with them it so precious…wishing you all the best❣️

Layla saying ‘I love her’ oh does that tug at my heartstrings.
My little one was a contact baby. If it weren’t for a baby carrier, I’m not sure what I’d do. Think of you all in the heat wave!!
Some of the things you shared postpartum about feeding sounds very similar to my experience postpartum, tongue tie too. You are an amazing mom and we are rooting for all of you!!

I struggled with breast feeding with my 1st and it triggered a spat of baby blues too. With my 2nd I knew I was not going to be superwoman. My first thrived on formula and it wasn't hard for number 2 to be a full formula baby too. I worked as a teacher and knew expressing at work would be almost impossible plus my husband was ready and willing to help with bottle prep and feeding. I really wanted to breast feed but finally I was at peace with the reality. Best of luck and success with Nova. I believe she lives in a capable and loving family. Everything will be all right.

Ugh we went through all the weight gain struggles with Jax as a baby. He had a tongue tie but that didn't seem to affect his feeding at all. Benji didn't have a tongue tie but I had to supplement with formula and eventually switch to just formula for him because I wasn't producing enough to keep up with him. These kids like to keep us on our toes!

My two children breast fed but didn't get enough that way. So I supplemented their intake also. Some babies just aren't strong enough to do the breast feeding for long periods, to get enough. They fall asleep during the feeding and then they wake up crying and you are back to feeding them again, before you should have to. I think as she gets a little bigger, she will not be nodding off and you can get her into eating enough that she will sleep like she should. My first baby, a girl, I had to rock her for about an hour until she fell asleep deep enough to put down. My second, a boy, I rocked him a little while, laid him on his tummy and patted his bottom for a few minutes and he was out. No problem. Every baby is different. No wrong or right for any of them. You do what works for that baby. She is gorgeous. Layla looks so happy sitting next to her. It is so nice that you have family that can help, like taking Layla for a while until you get settled. Congratulations again on your growing family. I am looking forward to you knitting again.

Thank you for sharing, and I think your idea of the differences would make an interesting and informative vid. Don’t worry about the knitting podcast, just show sweet Nova in the knits you have already when it’s cooler out. Give yourself time. As you said it was a tough 9 months. Just seeing you for little chats once in a while is good until you are better able to knit things again. Cheers! ❤️

When my son was born three weeks early at 5 lbs and a week in the NICU he never really caught on to breast feeding. My daughter born full term at 6 lbs was breastfed until about 4 months (with the occasional formula bottle) until we both had enough. Fast forward...healthy lovely adults with children of their own. You do everything you can that works for all of you and it will work out in the end. Nova is beautiful! Thank you for the update!

Hi Mina, congratulations on your new baby girl! You and Nova are so gorgeous together. :) Thank you for sharing your story - it's really an honor to hear it. I just had a little girl (our third) back in March and can relate to your story SO MUCH. At different points I was laughing or shaking my head in sympathy, because it felt so close to home. Our second baby was born super fast and there wasn't time for an epidural even though I wanted one, so I really feel for you there. Ugh! I love hearing birth stories for the similarities and uniquenesses. I'm so glad you're both doing well, even when it's hard at times, and I wish you all the best as you enter this new era for your family! So happy for you - Kerry

Welcome little Nova! Thanks for sharing your birth story. Sending such hugs from Michigan -- it's so hard to deal with the whole labor and delivery process and then deal with breast feeding not going as desired. I have my own Nova (short for November) that a bit over a year ago didn't get on with breast feeding either. It's so incredibly stressful. All you want to do is feed your kid, and it's like "hi, bonus struggle!". Really glad your Nova is doing well (look at that healthy snuggle bug!) and best of luck balancing all the things. Wishing you rest and a sandwich that magically appears when wanted.

Thanks SO much for sharing the birth story of Baby Nova with us! She is such a darling baby, and Layla will be a wonderful big sister! My sister and I were born six weeks early, and between the two of us we ALMOST weighed six pounds. My sister dropped down to 2 lbs. Needless to say, we were too small to nurse. That was in the days before disposable diapers in the early 1950's. Imagine that! Each day that goes by, Nova will grow and be more accustomed to the routine. Best wishes to your entire family, Mina!

My daughter recently had her baby about the same time, her labor & delivery was difficult, and things have been tough since then on, her son was tongue tied also. I just want to say, it’s alright to have an epidural and it’s alright to bottle feed…no shame. Whatever is best for the baby and Mother, less stress for the Mom means less stress on the baby! I would be interested in the comparison between the US delivery and the UK. I really think that Kent needs to get Air Conditioning in the hospitals.

My daughter's breastfeeding experience was similar to yours. I admit to holding my granddaughter ALOT when she was teeny. Wistful memories, now. Thank you for sharing your story. It's helpful for women to see and hear. We are so full of emotion and tired and in love and tired after giving birth. We worry about our babies. I'm here to tell you we still do at 65, when our babies are 40. It's the best and never ending title. My reward is my grand daughter and living the toddler life of general glee .

Mina she is precious! I'm sorry that you're having issues breastfeeding. I had the same thing with my last baby (my 4th). Had not had any problems breastfeeding the others but my last baby was born at 34 weeks. This was 33 years ago in the US and the pediatrician was not helpful. The best I figured out was that getting milk through the breast is much harder work than with a bottle and the combination of him having been bottle fed for a couple of days due to jaundice and his being premature (=sleepy ALL THE TIME) it just wasn't working. Finally ended up on total formula, which as you say, was fine. But the experience was so difficult. So just know that you're not alone and I'm sending you lots of love and good wishes and that you will have peace in knowing that whatever works for you is THE right thing. And Layla meeting Nova was so sweet! Bet she is the best big sister!!
