I’m old school new products come out screeming buy me buy me but essentially rubbish I’ve used harpic for years never had an issue once a year clean usually just after winter good video Sam proves a very good point simple is best
Thank you pal! Yeah it seems to work really well and it's a bargain. Make sure you clean them well after and protect, should be good! Thanks for watching 💪🏼
So after using the Harpic, what kind of PH neutralising soap would you recommend??
Love your snarky impressions of overly critical viewer comments! You had me rolling!
I’ve always used wire wool with a bit of WD40 (or XCPOne) then Autsol but going to give the Harpic a try now. 👍.
Next week.. Mad4Bikes are now stocking Harpic 10x 😂😂
Thanks for mentioning me while you were vigorously cleaning your pips. Made me tingle 😂😂
😂😂 you're welcome mate
What do you suggest for our pipes? I am not too strong so just need a spray that cleans it perfect or close to
Harpix 10x, then follow with Autosol and a bloody good wash. It's done wonders on all of my bikes. There's no one-stop solution by the looks of it. Many of them need a substantial amount of elbow grease!
@@SamVBikes awesome thanks. Will try this method.
It is difficult to keep exhausts clean in winter but I’ve always avoided chemicals. As to XCP and ACF50 I’m not sure about the realism of tests were carried out by a well known UA-cam channel. I read a blog post by a bike engineer and dealer who did a more realistic test with the two where over a few weeks he wet and dried panels with both preparation applied. He said this was more how your bike was used getting wet with salt then drying out before getting wet again the following day. In his tests the ACF50 came out best. I went the route of ceramic coating this year and so far so good.
It's always difficult to know what's going to be best isn't it. I'm happy with the results of XCP so far. Maintain it, rust protect and ceramic coat, and you should be good!
Since starting out, I would always wash and dry my bikes then wipe all ally and steel parts with WD-40 and bikes stayed mint, even after several years of riding through proper winters. I would also use WD-40 for cleaning the wheels and rear of the bike great for getting chain lube off!
@@michaelmclarney1994 Must say Michael I find WD40 great for cleaning especially the chain. During winter if it’s too wet or the weather is bad I usually give the chain a good clean with WD40 and leave a coating on until the bikes washed.
What do you reckon to the good old autosol metal polish?
What's your discount code for harpic?
😂😂
I've used Dr Downpipes a couple of times on my 1290, when combined with AutoSol and an uncomfortable amount of elbow grease I thought it did an ok job 👍🏼 But I have now put some Harpic on the shopping list 😂
😂😂 yeah way too much manual labour haha! 90% of the work with Harpic then the finishing touches with Autosol!
It does sound like the future 😂
I clean my bikes with Vulcanet wipes then spray some GT85 and job done. Ride all through winter and the down pipes are all good. That said I reckon Harpics a good idea, could also try Cillit Bang haha but would wanna be super careful with it
I think from now on I'm going to protect from the start. Keep them clean and never let them get bad! Bang and the pipes are clean haha
Brown buffing compound and a sisal buffing wheel on a Dremel. Finish with auto sol with abit ofwd40
Brilliant review Sam, great comparison and excellent results from the household cleaner. I do feel we often get ripped off with bike specific products and can save a fortune with a bit of lateral thinking 🤔
Thank you bud. Yeah I agree. Sometimes we pay extra for the sake of it being a purpose-made product when in fact its just a watered down version of what you can buy in Tesco for a pound haha
Maybe not household, but gearbox oil is meant to be amazing chain lube. Get it by the litre for about £7. It's messy to put on but works really well
@@SamVBikes I used to use regular hair shampoo to wash my bikes and car and it worked just as well as more expensive products marketed for the purpose of vehicle cleaning. The added bonus was my bike never getting dandruff!
@@SamVBikes Gear oil works a treat for chain lube with less fling onto the back wheel. I don't see why it couldn't go in a scottoiler too! It would also cost a lot less than the branded product they sell us. If I buy a chain lube system I will try it!
Haha Head and Shoulders for motorcycles 😂 there are definitely a number of places you can save some money without impacting the bike negatively! Have a good week pal
I’ve got some of that stuff to try but my headers are brand new although currently filthy 😂 I did the harpic trick on my hornet a couple times and never had an issue with corrosion or tarnishing
For some reason, your comment was held for review... maybe because you wrote filthy 😂
@@SamVBikes 😂😂 oooh matron, and yet the things we say on camera are ok 😂
😂😂 yeah I'm really shocked with what can be said. Also surprised that people can be aggressive in their comments yet its the one that is safe that gets held 😂
Try the Yoshimura Stain Magic. It works on my SDR headers. Less effort also. 😊
Not heard of that one, will give it a shot 💪🏼
The Stain Magic looks good on another video I watched but it is very expensive. Between £42 & £98 depending on where you buy it from.
Mr muscle oven cleaner works a treat Sambo 👌
I'll give that a shot next time!
Harpic x10 worked spot on for me, was only a quid a bottle at the time, greedy gets have bumped the price up now.
Too many UA-cam knobs driving up the price 😂
Get yourself some gloves on acid on hands 🙌 😂 used this product before, slightly warm exhaust and leave longer works better
Got to agree. Some of these bike cleaning products are just snake oil. I've stopped buying branded bike washing sprays and just use diluted bike/ car wash as a pre wash spray to soak the dirt.
Dr downpipe works so much better than harpic, which was what I was using originally. Painfully long with the harpic. So much easier with dr downpipe. You can't really moan about a product not working when you leave 30,000 miles worth of grime.
Fair enough pal! I think it worked well in my circumstance because the pipes were so tarnished and covered in grime. Dr Downpipe should be great on less tarnished exhausts I bet. Seen a lot of good examples
@@SamVBikes I think if the grime is quite thick, the harpic would be good to get things going but I wouldn't use it on anything made of a softer steel. Keeping on top of the cleaning will help. I hate cleaning my bike but my pipes look almost immaculate and it's much less effort than when I was using the harpic.
Yeah thats the best route. Get 90% off with the harpic if they are bad, then use something like Dr Downpipe for the last 10% shine. Then keep on top of them!
@@SamVBikes just get them looking nice and then get into a routine with the Dr downpipe. Honestly, it's so much better than a last 10% shine and your bike doesn't smell like a public toilet either. Think of it like doing preventative maintenance. You wouldn't wait for your oil to run dry, or turn to crap before a change. Same with cleaning the pipes.
I would also try MR Muscle foaming oven cleaner.
That's a good shout! Might try that next!
Hi Sam, I hope you're having a good bank holiday weekend? Its a bit off topic but have you seen the XT700 retro bikes leaked on you tube for 2025? I haven't been so excited about a new bike for years. Honda have leaked an XL500 too!
Hello! Absolutely epic one mate! In Wales playing on the Monkey's! I hadn't until now. That thing looks stunning!
@@SamVBikes I hope you're having good weather over there? They look amazing! The reveal I watched had the blue galoises scheme, red/white Marlborough colours and the black/yellow Kenny Roberts speed block scheme. If the price is right, I'm sorely tempted! They look like the Dakar bikes of the late 80s I lusted after in my youth 😀
It's been incredible! Just got home! Will be some vids in the coming weeks. They do look lovely. I reckon it will be 9k+ based in others around the 700 range
@@SamVBikes same here, hoping for sub 9k but I doubt it. I look forward to the Easter adventures coming up, I bet it was a right laugh 😂
Haha yeah would be nice!
This weekend has been fantastic! So much fun and a LOT of footage I hope!
Just use wire wool, scotch brite, microfibre and solvol autosol.
Harpic with wire wool, then autosol for the final 10%. That will save you a big arm ache
In case anyone gets confused, dont mix bleach and harpic x10.
There’s only more way to do it, take the pipes off polish them on a wheel, then strip and ceracoat
That would be a great way to do it! Knowing my luck I'd round off a header bolt 😂
5:32 that should of been slowed down with sexy music 😉😅
😂😂 full version on OF
@@SamVBikes Link please 😉 asking for a friend 😂
Patreon.com/SamVBikes 😂😂😂
Also moderately concerning and/or tempting with the amount of people who have actually DM'd me to ask for my Onlyfans 😂😂 maybe I should make one
@@SamVBikes You gotta make that money 😉 A Strong independent man like yourself can do / be whatever he wants 😂 SpankySam on OF 😂
I would also try ....er..... a GS with chrome headers, I was like...clean an exhaust..what is this blasphemy🤣
😂😂 don't have to clean it if you don't ride it like most of the GS boys 😉
Monkey miles only count as halves anyhow😁@@SamVBikes
average at best
I can’t see where it says I need to clean my pipes in the user manual? 🤮🤣
😂😂😂
What’s your only fans called lol
I was going to make a really dodgy version of samvbikes but I will resist 😂😂
@@SamVBikes wearing a mankini lmao
Respect to drdownpipe for all the good they do in the motorbike industry. From supportig the mental health motorbike to help for heros and make a wish foundation for children with life threatening illness. Also the work they done with bikerbiker for supporting the fight against motorcycle theft. Lets here the positives instead. Fook shitty harpic bog cleaner. Clearly this man is not a proper biker. Also you should not use that cleaner on wet downpipes it dilutes the cleaning power of it.
I respect them for that too. That's nothing to do with the properties of this particular cleaner or the ability of it in my circumstance
"Not a proper biker" 😂
