As a trucker I've recently taken up bicycling... The entitlement I see from bicyclists is dumbfounding. Even on the path they run 2-3 wide right at you and expect everyone to yield to them. Even today the bicyclist on the path has a stop sign and I in my car on the street did not, but I still got the finger as I rolled on by

As a 50 year old former BMXer and current MTBer, roadies give other cyclists a bad name. They believe the rules of the road don't apply to them then cry victim when they are held accountable for their illegal actions.

I've been riding a bicycle for well over 50 years and when you have cyclist 3 to 4 abreast with 2 or so riding outside of the bicycle lane then you are asking for trouble, this is one of the reasons why bicyclist will get such a bad rap, group rides they will tend to HOG up the roadways thinking it's their right to do so, keeping these cyclist in check probably saved some ones life down the road. When one of these cyclist are riding solo and that is of course if they dare to do so, for sure their attitude will not be the same, every time I see a group ride like this riding as like this, I will always say and think to myself, what a bunch of nut cases, then when one get hit by a car and gets hurt, they'll try to put the blame on the driver of the car, myself, I will stay away from such group rides, I like riding solo and if I will ride with others, 5 to 6 total riding double file at most.

Until a serious injury, I used to ride a couple of thousand miles a year on public roads. I also road raced cycles. I always respected the rights of vehicles, and that respect was almost often returned, 99.9% of the time. As a vehicle driver, I have seen outrageous behavior by activist cyclist, like fanning out across two lanes of a uphill two lane road to hold back vehicles while they pedal at 2.5mph. That kind of behavior only causes resentment. Show some respect and you will receive some respect.

How can you show respect when someone else is the one disrespecting motorists? Literally impossible. You aren't every single cyclist at every single encounter. Also, hogging the road doesn't justify grievous bodily harm. Get in your car five minutes earlier if you're in such a rush that 30 seconds causes you to maliciously endanger other's lives in a fit of road rage. I know you're not saying you're disrespectful, I'm just pointing out that attitude is what road ragers use to rationalise antisocial behaviour.
@@noctisocculta4820 30 seconds? Try 45 minutes up a two-lane mountain road at less than 5mph. I can't give you an accurate speed because that is the lowest sped my vehicle registers. Yes, needlessly hogging the road does not justify grievous harm, but it can cause needless road rage, especially when the riders respond to horn honks by slowing down and giving the single finger salute. Riding single file is safer, more respectful to tax paying vehicles, and won't slow down the peloton, in fact it may speed them up by drafting. Have a good and safe ride.

Take a close look at that picture. The bikers are not in the bike lane. They are taking up the entire lane of traffic.
This is typical for bike riders.
Some civilised nations actually legislate that when there is a bike rider in a lane they have the right to that lane..
and I mean a "vehicle" lane..
e.g. when turning at and intersection, roundabout, narrow road....

As a bike rider myself NO WAY do i try to share the roads with cars. Ppl are absolutely crazy now a days an wont give you an inch. I only ride in parks.

In the photos those bicyclists are riding 5 wide at times, hardly following rules of the road. Those streets arent built for a 30+ person bike ride. Show me those bicyclists riding single file in the bike lane then maybe ill care.

That many people on one ride is probably neither recreational nor commuter bicyclists. I suspect it is for some sort of event. If that is the case the bicyclist should have called up their city and got help with planning so motorists could avoid them.

They had a bike lane, but too many using at same time which causes bikes to spill over into the lanes. This is a stupid problem.

Police and drivers often think that in the presence of bike lane, bicyclists are not allowed on pavement. But bicyclists have the rights and duties of operators of motorized vehicles, and there is no duty to stretch a small group over more than 1000 f. There is no minimal speed outside limited access highways. Of course, there are some partially codified rules of co-existence, but this group was not blocking the traffic. Where I live, you must know how to pass horse buggies, horse riders, skateboard riders (mostly young women in very modest attire), and aggressive passing is just not done.

Bikes have the right to the entire lane. The bike lane is intended to provide a safer space, but bikes are not required to stay in the bike lane.

So how many STOP signs, red lights and crosswalks did you run?
Certainly you can understand the difference in a 2 ton car going at 30 mph needing to stop at a stop sign, where as a 30 lb bike traveling at 10-15 mph that can slow down with no blind spots isnt nearly as dangerous if there is no traffic. Cyclists are far less of a danger on crosswalks than cars.
In my state, bicyclists have to obey laws of the road but mostly they ignore stop signs, yield signs, and feel free to block roads.
FOX 5 this was your opportunity to detail what the exact laws are for bicycle riding on a street, and you did not.
I am a cyclist, drive a car and cannot stand most cyclists. The entitlement factor people have when riding a bicycle is astonishing. These people straddle the bike and car lane or if there are multiple riders ride side by side extending all the way out into the car lanes. I mean what the hell?? Bike lanes were made so that cyclists could share the road in their own lane. Not so they could inconvenience cars driving in the lane for cars!
I find car drivers to be even more entitled than cyclists who are just out trying to ride.

@@markmalasics3413 Ummm ... Bicyclists also have a right to use the street and they are NOT REQUIRED to use the bike lane. And car drivers are required to move over, slow down and pass with care. If you had watched the video instead of licking boots, your brain might have registered that!
Can you imagine being so entitled to block the entire lane with 40 bikes doing 10 miles an hour lol, probably 1000 miles or bike paths and bike lanes, but no they want to block everyone trying to get to work. You have the same rights and if i was driving 10 mph blocking all traffic in my car im sure I'd get pulled over too

Can you imagine being so entitled you think that bikers lawfully using the streets is "blocking the entire lane". You realize the speed limit is a limit right, not a mandated minimum.
When will the police starts enforcing traffic laws on bicyclists. I. E. When they don't think stop signs apply to them or traffic lights. I have stopped at a stop sign signaling a left turn bicyclist comming in opposite direction gets mad at me for turning in front of them because they run through the stop sign instead of stopping like the law requires. I think it's funny because they think I am wrong.
There is a big difference! What if you had to push your car to get going every time you stopped?
A bicycle works on muscle power, any stop and restart drains energy from the cyclists body.

In my state it's perfectly legal to blow stop signs and lights on a bicycle depending on conditions. The state legislature did this years ago. Most lights operate off sensors that won't pick up a bike. Bicyclists can see and hear much better than anyone in a car. When you come rolling up to a stop and can clearly see that it's clear both ways there's no point in losing your momentum.
@@ryanprentice6921 In my state it's left up to local governments to decide whether bicycles have to be ridden on the sidewalks or have to be ridden in the road. Kind of makes life a bit spicy when cycling outside your home area.

It makes no difference if you are in a vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot, impeding traffic is still an offence. And, given the physics if a motor vehicle vs. a cyclist, I believe it is in the best interest of the cyclist to ride respectfully, courteously, and safely.

It's a good thing we got to hear about the feelings of the rider and the lawyer looking for another buck.😂😂 I, like most rode bicycles as a kid. Then moved to dirt bikes, to a road harley, and back to long distance biking. I've ridden with too many of the entitled bicyclists to show any sympathy. When there's a bike lane available, but you choose to occupy the roadway, you become the AH. It's obviously a chioce on this video, and they were reminded of that bad choice.
40 people on bikes on a two lane road is probably not smart, but that's none of my business....
It's never the cyclists fault, they always blame everyone but themselves, even when they're putting themselves (and others) at risk with stupid behaviour like riding three abreast across a single lane or going through traffic lights, riding on pavements running down pedestrians etc etc. I'm in the UK and near where I live in Regents Park Central London, 2 elderly pedestrians have been run down in the park by groups of Lycra clad club racer cyclists. They time themselves doing laps in a PUBLIC space and post them to an online leader board which promotes speeding and not slowing down. They don't want to stop to let people cross the road as it might 'affect their lap time', so they end up running people down. Irony is cars on that same road have to stick to 20mph, but our laws don't cover bicycles, so the cyclists feel they can go as fast as they want. They ride in Pelotons so increase the speed for the ones at the back by shielding them from wind so they can gain even more speed. They ride like they're on a race track when it's a PUBLIC space. I ride a bicycle to work 2 days a week on a designated cycle lane. But even there the other cyclists cause injury and mayhem by jumping lights over taking against oncoming cyclists etc. 90% of other cyclists I encounter are pure slime. It's a rare occurrence that anyone stops along side me when I'm stopped at a red light.

It is not at all unsafe. Riding abreast literally makes the cyclists more visible and less likely to experience a close pass which could hurt them. And it is legal so smh…

@@smal1393 Bikes are legally entitled to use the road. As long as they are moving, they are legally not impeding traffic. They are no different than a car driving slowly in front of you. You may not like it, but you are legally required to put up with it.
When you are riding "for fun", riding in a business district, in a huge "clump", is disruptive. Take it out on these million dollar trails we tax payers are paying for.

@@shinobusensui9395 No more than what I pay for my car and motorcycle, both have tags and insurance and I'm licensed for both. So If I and anyone else who drives and uses the road have to have them, so do they. side effect is that to get my license, I had to take a motorcycle safety course.
Share the road means just that …. If you’re on a bike be aware that a 2 ton vehicle might smash you flat…and if you’re in a 2 ton vehicle that cyclists are not paying attention to road laws and once they cross over the line into the kill zone the standard points system shall apply…
So, the bicyclist points out that on a bike they are in danger. He points out that being in a car is much safer. So why are you riding your bicycles outside the bike lane. If there are too many bikes, then ride single file in the bike lane. Yes, some people will arrive much later than those at the front, but that is called traffic. The same happens to people in cars.
Show us the dash cam from the police cruiser. I’d be willing to bet a good percentage of this large group of cyclists were not actually inside the bike lane. I used to live in a city where cyclists were absolutely mental about their “right“ to the road. If I’m driving my car, I have to stay in my lane, if you’re driving your bike, you have to stay in yours.
The bike lane is a suggestion....just like lanes are a "suggestion" for road vehicles....

There is no law that states that bikes can only be in a bike lane. I seriously question how people get licenses without knowing basic rules of the road.

If you drive a car without tags, you will be pulled over and your car impounded.
If you cross the line without signalling, that's a ticket
If you don't have signal lights, driving lights, mirrors all those are tickets (same goes for motorcycles)

@@scruf153 Going through long beach and the PCH, it's not uncommon to see bycicalists taking up the entire lane.
This is not a problem when it's a 2 or 3 lane road. But when it becomes a single lane road, it's an issue since where it's a single lane, it's outside the populated areas and the speed limits are up to 50mph and motorists are running into bikes that are barely going 15mph
Drivers shouldn't be passing cyclists closer than 3', turning in front of cyclists, running cyclists off the road, throwing garbage at cyclists, etc., etc., etc. And, yet, here were are.
These bicyclist and cyclist are a menace when they are on the road. They feel like they OWN the road, not share the road.

Bicycle group rides are a menace. There is almost always some sheepdog trying to be the one making traffic avoid the rest of the pack by riding way out in traffic.
Atlanta cops gotta keep the roads safe for cars. Bikes have the same status as speed bumps. Although cars are heavy, bikes and bikers leave nasty marks on Beemers in high speed collisions.

Driving taxes and fees cover 50% of the cost of roads in Georgia. Guess who pays for the rest? And what would bike insurance cover? Bikes aren't crashing through businesses and killing 40,000 people a year in the US (yes, that is how many people drivers kill every year).
Generally the "first user" on the road has the right to lane. Not that it's smart with so many cars around.

That's legal in most places. 'Right of first user.' Should not be abused, but if it's safer to hold the lane until a clearer way to allow a vehicle to pass it should be okay.

30-40 bicyclists running 5mph, impeding traffic. Impossible to go around them. Got behind a group like this on a two lane road. No way to pass them, with 40+ cars backed up behind them. It took me over 30 minutes to go 2 miles! They blew through stop signs and red lights. And no, they didn’t have any police escort. I’m sick of these idiots, their disregard for the road rules and the massive traffic jams they create!

It's not hard to pass 40 bikes in 30+ mins in a car. They run lights and stop signs so you don't have to wait longer than 30+ mins. Well, they can restrict slower moving vehicles from certain roadways, to just give a blanket ban on certain modes of transport would violate a litany of civil rights. In states with Amish they ride their horse and buggies on the highway. In most states, horses actually have the right of way over motor vehicles.

A bicycle going 10MPH on a highway where the speed limit is 70 or more is asking for a bad wreck to happen. Until a bicycle can keep above the minimum of 45MPH they should be restricted and anyone violating that minimum should be ticketed and removed from the roadway!

These group rides are awful Would eventually like to see that challenged in court. Don't think the law takes into consideration a whole lane taken up but slow movers like this. These people are among the worst. I ride everyday, run my chores throughout the city. Very easy not to cause problems, these types can't seem to avoid it.

Admittedly addressed in Florida law. Don't know what size lane or laws in Georgia. FL cyclist so no idea what the GA laws are. There is no such thing as a "Group" ride by statute in FL. Each rider is an individual operator of a vehicle. If you are in violation of the statutes expect a ticket. Had a guy not two days ago cross a double yellow and drive through an intersection to pass me. I was as far right as I could be, there was no oncoming traffic and he had a green. It was the safest pass he could make and I had no problem with it. The worst vehicle operators are the nice-holes. Slowed down to 15mph on a 5am ride to let a woman pass on a two lane. She had two cars behind her. Instead of passing she slows and matches my speed (no oncoming traffic). I slow to 10, still won't pass. Finally I pull off the road and she passes with a smile and a wave. The now seven cars behind her were not smiling at me when they passed.

It's odd that towns spend millions of dollars on bike lanes & bike trails but the bicyclists ride the middle of the road impeding traffic.
Large groups of bicycle riders tend to block the road so drivers can't get past them. It creates tension for both sides.

They love riding out by my place.... small rural 2 lane roads with lots of winding blind corners and no shoulders at all. Hard to stop in time for a bike going 12 mph in 55mph when they take up the whole lane. Surprised more have not been splattered by trucks and farm equipment to be honest.

I am a cyclist. It is rude and unsafe when you have 3 or 4 cyclists riding side by side taking up the entire lane. Group rides need to follow strict protocol. Share the road goes both ways.

In my opinion this is why protected bike lanes are necessary... With the high cost, of over 12 thousand dollars a year to own and operate a vehicle, more people will be using bicycles to get around.
We have bicycle lanes in South Florida and it has made matters worse. The bicyclist still ride outside their lane, impede traffic and cause quite a few injuries.
We should have completely separate roads from each other.
I most certainly do not know every state's traffic laws. However, I do know that Florida requires motorized vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc) to yield to bicycles. While I agree that if a bike lane exists, it SHOULD be utilized by the rider, they are often poorly planned, and there are hazards (pot holes, utilities access covers, leveling issues) that need to be avoided. Demanding a bicyclist remains in the bike lane is not allowing for their assessment of the road they must navigate. I simply ask that respect be given to those who are less protected.
I have less than 30 minutes to report to the hospital when called in, but I will still slow down as needed and yield to anyone on a bicycle.

No, actually, it's not "perfectly legal." Georgia statute says so. But, then, we could make the same argument for motor vehicles, couldn't we. And don't pretend like you've never heard of a traffic jam that takes so long to clear that by the time you drive by where it was supposed to be there's no one there but a few crickets and other drivers looking surprised, too.
I think if we look, it is law that a small but significant portion of the federal fuel tax has to be allocated to bike lanes and other accommodations for bicycles because the federal government has recognized that bicycles are a legitimate method of transportation in our country.
I believe the Federal fuel tax is for federal roads? You know the interstate highway system? Where cyclists are not allowed to ride. Cycling infrastructure funding comes from local government budgets.

Cyclists have been flaunting rules of the road for decades. They don’t pay taxes through licensing fees but want more rights than other users of the roads. They also believe that every recreational pathway that’s put in is specifically for cycling. Wrong! It’s time they were charged when running into pedestrians on these shared pathways. When I used to walk my dog they wouldn’t give you any warning and several times I got clipped. I started carrying a walking stick as a spoke remover. cyclists have become a nuisance and we need to put laws in place to ensure everyone else is safe.

Also, driver fees don't come close to covering the cost of roads. In Georgia, driving fees and gas taxes cover 50.3% of road maintenance. That means that the other 49.7% is paid out of the general fund BY EVERYONE WHO PAYS SALES, INCOME, OR PROPERTY TAX (search for the Tax Foundation, How Are Your State's Road's Funded?).

If I’m riding in traffic and making a left hand turn, I’m supposed to get in the turn lane and wait for the light just like a car. Had a friend who was run over and killed doing it. The high school kid that killed him knocked him into the air, into a fence across the street, knocking one leg loose from his body. The driver then got out and yelled at his corpse.

In FL, bicyclists must observe traffic control devices (stop signs, red lights, etc) just as autos do. They are considered a vehicle, same as a car; but motorized vehicles must yield to cyclists (along with pedestrians).

I have a great idea, maybe ride your bike on a bike trail where you don't slow down traffic and create a dangerous situation where people might try to go around you and cause an accident or potentially hit you.
