Man, I miss Tales from the Backlog. Hope Scott brings it back at some point, even if it’s just once per season

The lack of quality of life features like running and gunning, running and reloading, and strafing all work in the games favor and make enemy encounters that are quite unlike anything else. I can only imagine how sub-par the first village encounter would be if I could strafe circles around the ganados and unload on 'em all the while reloading. It forces you to think smart and use the environment around you, it demands you learn the monsters cues. It forces you to engage enemies up close and personal and treat every monster as a threat. Everything in this game was designed around its controls, from the way the enemies approach you, the way the levels are designed, the developers of RE4 knew what they were doing. Changing the controls and making them more modern would break the game.

Same with Sheva in RE5. Even on professional, if you're good enough, she isn't an issue at all. Just don't give her healing items at all.

One thing I love about RE4 is the adaptive difficulty, it does a fantastic job of keeping the difficulty just right on top of the easy/normal/hard difficulty you select.
Currently playing through it for the 20th time on Xbox one on professional, I do love the Wii controls but standard gamepad feels more immersive to me with the laser dot rather than a giant crosshair.

The irony about people complaining about "so much ammo" laying around is that when the dynamic difficulty system determines that you suck balls, it will start dropping more ammo for you.

Resident Evil 4 - The Completionist
RE4 was in my backlog as well for so long and I finally got around to it a couple years ago. Like you I found it well balanced in so many areas and probably one of the best games I've ever played.

Gotta be honest Ashley is one of my favorite parts of the game. It ramps up the chaos just make sure she's behind you, but also make sure she's not getting taken away by cultists. Kill an enemy and she'll pump her fists sharing in the enjoyment of blowing their heads off or making them fall to their death. It's a masterpiece even by today's standards and harkens back to a time when you sat on the couch with your siblings or buddies playing games. I can't say enough good about it. Incredible replay value, mass amounts of content, satisfying unlockables, enjoyable exploration and so much more. Anybody who doesn't enjoy it is either a sissy a snob or has never played it before.
Honestly, I would've preferred if maybe I could give her like a peashooter so she wouldn't be completely defenseless and could hold her own ground just a little bit.
Resident Evil 4 has sliding difficulty. It felt perfect because it was perfectly tuned to your play style. 😄🕹

I might be in the minority here, but I don't like the adaptive difficulty. It hand-holds bad players, and punishes good players. Not a fan. I prefer static difficulty.

Looking at the quicktime events in RE4 is funny because it was one of the first games to use them and they were quite positively received at the time. They were seen as a way to keep a player involved in the cutscenes which had become quite bloated in the PS2/GCN/Xbox era. It was a great innovation. Then God of War had to ruin it for everyone.

I started playing for the first time earlier this month (also my first resi game) on the Switch and i'm having fun but there are some flaws and gameplay parts that I have a hard time to accept. I'm sure i'll be able to accept most of them as I get better though.

This video absolutely slapped a nostalgic memory into my face.
RE4 has a solid chunk of my life that it's locked itself into. It came out when I was in high school. I didn't own the game the first year it came out, but my friend did. There was one particular day where my friend group flocked to my house after school to play games in the basement. And he brought RE4. We crowded around while watching him play and he had gotten to the fight with "It". We watched with anticipation, people calling out when they saw "it" in the corner at the last second. We lost visual for a moment and my friend turned the character around- just in time to see "It" right behind him, about to absolutely end his life.
We screamed loud enough that the neighbor checked in to see if we were okay. (A group of seven-ten teenagers yelling in fear would probably do that, I guess.)
RE4 is a good game.

Funfact : The wii version is consinder the easiest version of all thanks to the gyro aiming
And the piss easy QTEs. Shake the Wii remote and mash A and B and you will never fail them. With the traditional controllers, you will actually fail the QTE if you hit the wrong buttons.
Hey, it makes collecting all the figurines via the target practice minigame a whole lot less annoying!

I have the Game Cube, PS2, Wii, and Physical PC releases of the game, so I agree the Wii is easiest version I've played, but as the only one of my friends back in the day with a Game Cube(it was what I could afford with my job), that version still holds a place as one of my favorite games of all time, and was something at least till the PS2 version came out I could say to my friends you don't have this awesome game on your system. The Game Cube version was also the only one I ended up buying a physical strategy guide for, and only game I'll admit to having fallen out of my desk chair, and breaking it the first time the lake monster popped up. So yeah while not scary overall it has it's moments of WTF?!?!

So, my experiences with this game:
Bought it Steam Summer Sale cheap for $5, tried to run it. Cutscenes were stupidly slow and the audio ended a minute or two before the animation. Decided I need to upgrade my ENTIRE computer and got my dad's old gaming pc. It runs better.

God, this is my favorite Scott video. It convinced me to play not only this classic but also the rest of the games. I have loved Resi 4, Remake, and RE2 Remake (and currently going through Resi 7, it’s cool). Can’t wait to try the rest of them out.

1-3 are okay if you like tank controls 4 is great and a great jump off point, 5 is great if you treat it as a cheesy 80s action movie plot, and 7 is a great change of pace. There was no 6.

@@thecliffracer Makes sense. My personal favorite handgun was the Red9. The same trademark gun Luis used in the game. He was cool. Too bad he got killed. I liked his character. He seemed a bit too cool to be a researcher though. I forget which shotgun was better though. I haven't played all the way through RE4 since I played the Wii version, though I played the GC version when it first came out, but I never beat it. Yeah, it was hard, especially in the village, with Doctor Salvador(that's the name of the chainsaw man), he kept killing me over and over because I kept getting the shotgun immediately, and not using it to kill Salvador first. Seriously, dude/lady, fuck Salvador and fuck his chainsaw bullshit. I've tried to play every other version of RE4 since the GC original, but I missed out on the ps2 version, I don't really like or care about mobile games, though I think there were xbox and ps3 versions of RE4 as well. The Wii was the best version, and the version I beat. I love RE4. I own it currently on the PS4. I plan on playing it, either before Halloween, or on Halloween. I don't know which other weapons I'll use, but I know I want to use the Red9. I see why Luis used it. I also agree with Scytt that the Wii is the version you should play, but since I don't have it anymore, I'll have to settle for the PS4. It's not like it takes up much space, and the color of the PS4 cover art just looks and feels right to me. You got any personal favorite weapons?
@@shawnfields2369 well I'm currently through my 6th or 7th playthrough of the game..this time on professional. Playing it on the switch for portability. The best weapon has to be red9 but since I always use it I'll be switching to the blacktail this time. My favourite weapon in the game is probably the broken butterfly though because of its cool reload animation. Have fun playing the game!
@@thecliffracer Sounds good, dude/lady. I've never tried professional difficulty. I always try for easy or normal. But, I'm thinking about trying out Crushing difficulty on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Because I want to unlock more costumes. And, I want to hear the low pitched voice Drake uses during cutscenes in Uncharted 3. It's hilarious. When you use the Doughnut versions of certain characters, Nate's voice pitch lowers and in non-story cutscenes, he speaks with a deep voice. I'd play through both games again just to hear Drake speak with a deep voice while literally looking like a fat doughnut. I do like the Blacktail handgun. But, I've always preferred the Red9 or the Broken Butterfly too. Thanks for bringing that up, dude/lady. I forgot how awesome the Broken Butterfly was. I also never got to use the Killer7, based on the game Kiler7. Because both Killer7 and RE4 were both supposed to be GC exclusive originally, I guess there was supposed to be a tie-in weapon. Too bad it's not in any other version except the GC original. Thanks for that too! I'll gladly get to beat it and have fun beating it again, thanks again!

It’s crazy to watch this video especially talking about the textures at the end when the VR one just came out recently looking a lot more cleaned up and having the fun addictive gameplay all from an oculus quest as well makes this game is so replay-able and fun to the very end
Bro resident evil is one of the best series out there. It’s kinda one of those cult classics but a big one. Definitely one of my top 5 series and I usually dont play much triple a games
Cult series.... that's a laugh. It's easily Capcom's BIGGEST cash cow franchise (Just look at Capcom's best selling games ever. Most of them are RE titles), has a live action movie series that's made over one BILLION dollars globally, and has multiple entries that could be considered among the best of their generation. Yeah, dude, it's not a cult series. And RE4 is sitting either at or near the top in terms of which ones fans like the most.
I find it funny that this video was in my own "Backlog". And I now that saw it, I'm happy. Great video Scott.

Don't know if I'd say it's diverse, given everyone expecting games like golf on the Wii (anda few did come out), but Super Shot/PangYa! Golf is probably the most fun I had on the system.

5:55 Normal difficulty gives you the right amount of everything and isn't too easy or too hard for every player because it has a scaling difficulty system and gets easier or harder depending on how you preform. It works so well and I love it.

Man I remember when you had like no subs or viewers. Congrats man, you stuck to your own style and are getting some well deserved attention. It feels a lot like watching different episodes of a show when I watch your videos that's how consistent your contents been.
Loved Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube. My aunt gave me the game because she didn't want her 7 year old to play it, and I didn't get around to it till I was about 15, and I was amazed by the game. Definitely one of my favorites
Me too. I played RE4 when it first came out on the GC. I couldn't get past the village with the chainsaw doctors originally. I probably shouldn't have been playing RE4 when I was 12 in 2005 though... or playing RE2 on the n64 in 1998, when I was 5. My dad was there to beat the game for me though. As Leon. That's how Leon became my favorite RE character though. I was amazed by RE4 too. I wanted to play it at first because Leon was back, and Ada was still alive. I wanted to know how she survived RE2. But, at first, I never beat RE4. I had to LITERALLY keep buying the Rocket Launcher over and over JUST to get past the bosses. And I got sad that I wasn't skilled enough to beat the bosses on my own and eventually gave up, until the Wii Edition of RE4, which is how I beat the game for the first time. Then, i kept playing it on, the ps3, and the PS4. But, I don't know if it was just my version on PS4, but when you fight Saddler's "right hand", my game kept crashing. It crashed twice in a row, on the same part. So, I had to buy the Rocket Launcher. Luckily, my game didn't crash after that. But that was the first and last time I had to buy the Launcher. It's still one of my favorite RE games. Besides 2.
@@shawnfields2369 I will admit, RE4 is quite the difficult game if you don't know what you are doing. My first playthrough of the game was me constantly dying over and over again and getting really frustrated because I didn't know what I was doing. My older brother got a kick out of me getting mad though.
@@Throggy Definitely. One of the most difficult RE games out there. Along with the original RE on GC/PS4, the remake of RE2, with it's BS puzzles, but I love the remake, dude. And I'm looking forward to the RE3 remake, because I never played 3. And because Jill Valentine is one of the best characters in RE. But I agree. Any RE game is difficult if you don't know what you're doing. I died 5 times as Chris in the RE remake on the PS4, and I was playing it on normal. Same with Jill. RE4 had me dying more than that though, from what I remember. I only recently played the RE remake. I remember from 2005, on the GC, I died constantly in 4. That was the first RE I had to play myself without my dad's help. With him living in Delaware now, and me and my mom living in Vegas, I have to beat RE games myself. I barely died on the Wii Edition, and I didn't keep track of how many times I died on the PS4 version. I'm still in the police station in the remake of 2, on standard as Leon, during his "A Scenario" mainly focusing on that first. Although, I am keeping a separate save file for Claire and Leon's scenarios on Hardcore... send help.. Sounds like you had about the same kind of frustration I had playing RE4, at first, not knowing what to do, fighting all the villagers, and trying to survive. But, at least someone got a kick out of your anger. And, at least you can say you know what you're doing now, right? I still suck at The Mercenaries though. But I made it to stage 4 with HUNK. Stupid beach stage though... and screw The Mercenaries mode.
