What O Chaps from Aussie land. The England I remember from the early 70's I know this series is 1987 but not much changes in a hurry. The English class system of which I was an outsider looking in. As an Aussie in those days the locals still called us convicts. The British have always loved taking the piss about their upper classes and this is a sign of cultural maturity. Mr David Jason, what a brilliant and accomplished thespian.
The important part of the plot is about Skullion's scholars and the generous endowments or donations to college funds by parents of students. There was something similar in a Lewis episode, but there it was Oxford obviously. In the light of recent admission scandals at Harvard, it makes you think how much truth is there in this ? How much fact is the satire based on ?
@@Nick-zx5dn Haha, that's why I wrote 'side-plot', in an attempt to suggest it had more prominence than a sub-plot. And realized later that it is, indeed necessary for the subsequent damage to the tower. No less tiresome and unfunny.
Definitely a week point in the series, it might have looked good on paper, but why was he compelled to get rid of them in the first place, did I miss that? Not enough loving, way too many balloon shots, too much cheap slapstick, if it was two or three minutes instead of ten it might have worked, but that's the perils of working to a time slot - try telling a broadcaster "Can we make this one ten minutes shorter please?" But, never mind, we were left with a cliff hanger, can the lower orders win out over the new establishment... See you next week!
Who sell what? Zipser and the frenchies? Or scullion and the shares, or scullion and the list of names? I have a sneaking feeling scullion owns the college. As they said, a scullion has been porter at Porterhouse for 500 years. Probably because it was property owned by the scullions and leased as college. Probably even own the row-hoses on ryder street.
I shall watch the fourth episode... However I can predict this: Oligarchy once established has short memory how they got up there...Servant once, for ever servant....
Very funny... Waste of so many condoms... Preventing stupidly to be use in " copulation" with no risks at all, especially in Cambridge college😂😢... I feel so sorry....
The condom sub plot, i thought was hilarious when i was child watching it for the first. Now it is just silly and illogical. Seems very forced. Love sharpe though
I Say... Never seen before SUCH CLIMAX....HUGE ONE.... THIS SERIE DESERVE BAFTA AWARD!!!!!❤
Loving this, it's fabulous, great actors.
So pleased to see this excellent series, thank you for uploading.

Lol I was Irish in Oxford during the time of the Troubles….

Keep them coming. Love it.
Many thanks for this!
Looking forward to the finale.
very 70's drama from my youth
1987.
Satire, INDEED...❤👏👏👏👏Still, satire is inspired by reality, right!?
Thank you very much, although the side-plot about the Zipser is tiresome and unfunny in the extreme. Thank goodness it came to an end.
Not really a sub plot. Contributes well to the story.

@@castelodeossos3947 Works much better in the book.
I couldn't agree more. One loses all sympathy for him.

People are the same, everywhere! 🤣
Perhaps. I would however say that a medieval college quadrangle filled with gas filled johnnies is probably unique and unlikely to happen everywhere.
Redundancy after 45 years would cost a fortune.
Why didn't he just sell them? Lol😂

His playing with the condoms I thought in 1987 was puerile and not what a twenty something would do and my opinion has not changed.

Laughing so hard at the condom scenes
Except for the constant dirge, this is an excellent story.
