Hi Ann! 👋🏻
Rained this morning in Encino. I met Graham years back at The Guacamole Fundraiser Bonnie Raitt through for (David Crosby)
He was rather shy
who could miss something called that..??? :D
As Dolly would say, "I'm busier than a one legged kicker in an ass kicking contest!". That is you, dear Lee!
🤣
Bless. I had it too. I was also fully vaxxed and boosted. Lost my job due to unavailability of tests for at least 2 weeks. Im in a situ where I have had to pawn everything I have of value just to eat and get m y meds. Im back to work at a local job because I am sick of being a 'traveling' contract engineer. I cant do the 1000 mile drive for a 6 month contract even if I wanted to. So many people act like the effects of this pandemic are over. I get 0 assistance even though I have contributed to this system for 50 years. I had a stroke and surgery on my brain 5 years ago. 3 Years ago I had a bad fall ...26 steps and shattered my eye socket bones. Almost lost my vision. Then I got septic and had emergency surgery for that. Cancer was next and 2 weeks after my final treatment I had 2 heart attacks and a triple bypass in one day. Had an amputation next from diabetes. Finally Covid..SSA denied my claim after I had to wait 2 years for a decision. All that minus the stroke happened in the last 3 years..sheesh..Oh yea I lost my wonderful home in JAX and had car repo'd when I was so sick. What a country.
Graham Nash is one of “those” singers who not only shines incredibly bright as a lead vocalist, but who is also so fantastic as part of a vocal blend with other singers…
His voice was crucial to The Hollies, and can we even begin to imagine “Helplessly Hoping”, “Find The Cost Of Freedom”, “Ohio”, or any of the other stunning CSN or CSNY songs WITHOUT his amazing voice?
I think that there are some vocal combinations throughout the history of music that were just naturally magical…
Lennon/McCartney, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, The Everly Brothers, The Mama’s & Papa’s, Manhattan Transfer…are but a few examples of natural vocal blends that not only just immediately “worked”, but further, were sublime.
And, going back even further in time are acts like The Andrews Sisters, The Ink Spots, The Mills Brothers…all of whom had amazing vocal blends.
Graham Nash is most certainly a wonderful singer on his own, with a voice so pure and exquisite that it can cut diamonds.
But, there’s an inexplicable mojo that happens when he sings with David and Stephen (and Neil)…it’s almost as if another entity is created whenever they all sing together…it’s magical.
IMHO, of course. 🙏
I hope you guys get rain, ‘cause that means we might get some too, which we can really use
The look in your eyes at around 7:40 is priceless.. The thoughts/visons in your mind.....Past, present and future.....God Bless you! Keep playing....
Cookies! 😻 and bass❣️ and Nash❣️

Greetings from Epping, UK
Cheers Barry 🎸
New news Barry. Barry will be up from Glos tomorrow. Any windows to meet up? Friday/Saturday lunchtime??
@@johnpegg6771
Hi John
Bad timing I'm afraid
I'm away Thursday lunchtime until Saturday evening, but next time.
I hope you are keeping well.
Cheers
@@barrywaples8150 OK. He is here tomorrow so I will get back to you after we have spoken. Take good care.
We have had drainage problems too on the edge of the Oakland Hills because of underground streams and global warming which increases ocean levels and pushes up on ground waters.
We should be thankful for any rain in western North America; the Guardian today printed ‘US west ‘megadrought’ is worst in at least 1,200 years’.
Thanks for GRAHAM!!!!!!!! Always GREAT!
I was fortunate enough to see Lyle in my hometown some decades ago, and what a wonderful experience that was! Every time I see him introduce "You're Not From Texas", I lose it. His delivery is just... well, it's beyond words.
You are "The Old Lamplighter". (A great old song by the Browns) Thanks for bringing us the Light. :)
I love your comment!!!♥️💛♥️
I don’t know the song 🎶 but now I have to hear it! 🎶🎶♥️
Super nice guy. Graham set me and my Dad up with some tickets to a show. Very good of him. I’d never seen CSN. Very good show.
It doesn't surprise me at all that you play bass for Lyle Lovett in his Large band. I've checked on him ever since I saw him on an English music program compared by Andy Kershaw, back in the late 80s, along with Steve Earle and Nanci Griffith, amongst others. The episode was called New Country, and Andy pronounced it 'New Coontry', vowel sound as in 'good'. Cracked me up. I followed these 3 after that and they never let me down. Steve Earle is such a character; been to Australia many times. I think he 'gets' Aussies. So many people don't. Babbling again, need coffee. Thanks for Graham Nash.
Graham it’s one the beast voices in the world!!Great Leland!!👍🤗💙
Le, your videos help me so much to calm down.
Thank you for the history and the wonderful memories and the music. Still listening in Ireland.
Fabulous tune today Leland. Thank you💞
Looking forward to you and Judith again, TIF documentary, Lyle's your, TIF new music, all of it❣️❣️. Take care Lee.
Stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a great rest of your Tuesday 👍😉☀️🌼
Never heard this before. Haven’t listened much to Nash’s solo work. This is such great song writing! Just the phrase “glass and steel” sets the tone of the song….,a feeling of coldness, detachment, artificiality, lack of real connection. The lyrics paint one of the best pictures I’ve heard of the pitfalls of celebrity, and the shear effort it takes to maintain some sense of balance. Some turn their back on it to save their sanity, some succumb. And those who survive snd gain wisdom along the way….. those are the lucky ones
Hi Lee, always a pleasure. We're watching a James Taylor 1971 TV concert here in North Yorkshire, England. And there's you and some lady called Carole on the ivories. Say, she's pretty good. Hope she made it. ☺️
Looking forward to our usual fortnightly clubhouse session. The clubhouse really is one of the silver linings that has come about because of the cloud of Covid 😃
see you tomorrow Ian. cheers from Athens, GA bud.
Talk to you tomorrow, Ian
Leland it is almost a relief to hear that you have to do some preparation for playing along with the tracks. It seems so superhuman to have played on so many songs and albums as you have! I have this impression that you can play along to pretty mush anything on the first go.
Thanks for your special Insights. Greatings from east Frisia, Germany
Hi Lee - still keeping my sanity in check nearly two years later. Look forward to seeing you all at the clubhouse.
And Graham Nash is such a beaut.
Theres nothing like a Sklar vid to start the day! Wonderful!
How true! Miss the old studio days at One Step Up!
Seems like Nash has been listening to Browne on this one ! Thank You As Always!
That water in basement sucks. Is there a sump well with sump pump applicable. Thanks for Graham Nash today.
Really liked this❤️🎸
Wow love Stanley Jordan,
watching him play in the Film 'Blind Date' is stunning.
Wishing you a wonderful day, Leland!
Clubhouse Day … how fun 🤩
Stay busy, man! 💛
On the East Coast, our temperature dropped, too, this week, compared with temperatures over the past weekend -we went from 60 degrees on Saturday to snow ❄️ on Sunday. It was 9 degrees overnight! Don’t know why I live here (actually, yes I do, but it took me a long while to figure it out)!!!
Love the CSNY tunes, any day, any time!!! Love the atmospheric toonage!!!
Leland and Russ together again all Summer -what’s not to love!!! ❤️ ♥️❤️
Interesting to hear Graham Nash's music during the automated, electrified mid-eighties. Thanks for this one. See ya at the Clubhouse!
Leland…air bass playing counts in my opinion. Love the lyrics on this. The rock n roll refugee phrase made me smile.
I love the clubhouse. what a great community. lovely Nash post today. always loved his work "Sleep Song" especially. you are the best. Stanley Jordan the guitarist? I love his work.
I'm thinking Lee misread his notes...Stanley Johnson and Jay Parti were longtime Nash studio guys. Sadly, Stanley is also gone. Jay is alive and well in Nashville.
@@rao4sos thanks for that update Dave. I wondered. from one David to Dave. cheers bud.
@@rao4sos Thank you, your comment is why I follow remarks made after Leland's. Many helping hands make the informational work easier.
Good morning ☕️
I just heard you mention that the song lacked much “bottom end” and I just realized that that fact made the feel (at least to me) “colder” and more untethered. Wow, what a great choice to go with those lyrics!
The bass is the fountain of music!
I hope you get to New Hampshire with Lyle Lovett! I’d love to see that band again!!!
I can hear you now Lee. as you walk and light the gaslights........Hear Yee Hear Yee....It is 5:30pm and all is well!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the rewards of listening here is hearing new music - even for those who grew up with C, S, N & Y. Well, now I can't stop playing this G. Nash song. I especially enjoy the way your bass slides from note to note, Lee. Nash's vocal is clear as a bell, as usual.
That is so cool!!! Lyle Lovett! maybe I'll catch you guys in Fort Worth if you come this way..
I've always interpreted that song as one to David. I could be wrong, but then.......
I'm trying to picture a musical legend unclogging his drain pipes...Bass royalty should assign this task to one of us lesser beings. I guess that's why you seem so down to earth....because you actually are!
Great tune I hadn’t heard this one before. One of our finests exports Mr Nash! I’ve also been listening to a lot of Jackson Browne this week whilst out on the road. Those first two albums are something else and the bassist is unbelievable ;)
Hi, Lee! What I'm learning from you: the iconic bass lines you've written, the history of how some of the most important music in the last 50 years came to be, the stories of your relationships with other professional musicians, and glimpses into the lives of professional studio & touring musicians. Thank you, from a 64 year old NEW bass player who chose to learn the bass because of you!
Have a BALL!
Hello Lee!!! Thank you 👍🏻
Great cut from Graham Nash. I appreciate the effort to play tomorrow, but I suspect you'll be playing with the shop vac in the basement. See you at the Clubhouse tomorrow.
Love Graham and I look forward to hearing you play again. Be well!!!
An interesting bass part in today’s track, love the air bass playing! Quite revealing lyrics as well.
😃😃. Always love any manifestation of CSNY!
You were asking for rain. Based on the Doppler a few minutes ago, sounds like your neck of the woods will be getting it. Hope it's not too much of a good thing!
Hadn't heard this before. Lovely!
OMG ... it snowed I mean hailed in Pasadena!!!!
so kind
I hear a touch of young Phil Collins in Nash's voice.
This is such a great song from a fantastic artist. I appreciate your talent and the ability to participate in so many great projects. Because of this, you get to share so much with us and I for one, sincerely thank you Lee. Have a great day!
See you tomorra
Happy V Day Le
😎👍❤🖖
Love Brother
Would love to hear some Lyle stories !
Outstanding artist... Love Love
That was 👍 great!
Thank you
P. J. O'Rourke...RIP...74.
😎
Not working for me. Hope it’s not being taken down. 😬
Edit: okay working now. 😅
How rude Are you ever going to play bass again 🤔..I appreciate your channel. HELL you can show us how to make a healthy smoothie..I wouldn't complain, oh you did that already. Make it a great day Leland. Stay safe,be safe.
Go to Judith Owen's channel. Lee played with her just a few days ago.
Leland, do you and the IF have roadies?
If nit, who carries the amps.
I have put my back out today, lifting a Fender, ten feet across the room.
We do it all. Still low budget touring.
Ouch!
@@lelandsklar6363 I recently broke the tip of my left index finger being a bit careless with rocks in the garden. The hand specialist made me a moulded finger stall which I still use now, in a glove, to protect that finger. I still feel the break when I play guitar. Be careful moving amps please.
@@lelandsklar6363 As another couple of famously famous musical types famously said, … 🎶
“I’m on a low budget 🎶 What can I say?” 🎶
Question #2: I was watching one of those pawn shop shows in Vegas and they see a lot of music memorabilia coming in. Got me wondering what Frankenstein would appraise for? Between the tremendous amount of songs played through it; not to mention who owns it. Have you ever had it appraised? The autographs alone on it????
Never have…
@@lelandsklar6363 OK, bring it by Randy's Pawn I'll have a look. As you know our motto is "We don't ask questions."

Afternoon Mr. Bunny
@@randyschiffer3265 hi Randy
Hey Mr. Bunny what part of the world are you in? Sometimes I say morning and you say evening. Just wondering.
@@randyschiffer3265 some say I’m on a different planet most of the time! I was up till the small hours this morning which is how I caught the knuckleheads video🤣, I do tend to be online late afternoon till early morning so the “afternoon, evening”and “morning” comments are accurate!
💕💕✌️✌️💕💕
Man it is mind blowing to learn how many of these tracks have this man on bass.
Do you listen to any current bass players?
You could do a reaction response video on modern bass...
Hi Mr. Sklar. Thanks for another hidden gem. What bass did you user on this song?
Love Graham Nash…cool song. I have a question for you though, “are you ever gonna play again?” What an annoying question. People should be content if you post a single sentence. Thanks as always for doing this. Stay safe🖕
I'd be interested to know who was playing the back ground electric guitar. It sounds like it could be Dan Huff.
The guy's a monster. I've learned some of his leads for Michael W. Smith tunes.
@@randyschiffer3265 sorry. I'm a guitar player from Alberta Canada and Rick, Robert are my middle names. I don't like to be too exposed online. Too many nuts out there. Can't be too careful these days.
Hi Mr. Leland, may I request if you could play your version of 'til they take my heart away of Claire Marlo? Plssss 😄 TYIA 🤙🏼👍🏼
I covered Her a while ago.
Hi Lee, please if you can answer me, have you played with the Bee Gees? if touched, record a video of one of their songs
Never did even though I get credited as having done so…
@@lelandsklar6363 That white suit and red shirt are going to follow you forever........
@@lelandsklar6363 His career is amazing, imagine Leland Sklar playing with the Bee Gees, it would be amazing
Lovely bass on this track, at times it sounds like a fretless, or was that some synth overlaid?
No synth. Mostly chords with chorus.
Leland: Did my small package ever find it's way to your USPS PO Box ?
Still have not seen it! 😢
Hey Lee! Is the Clubhouse a separate Site? Is it Live Video? Where can I sign-up?
On each video there is a link to flatfiv. Go there and you can sign up. I do two live streams a month that are about 2 hours long. Lots of great people on it who have become a great community during the past almost two years.
Got some snow today in Frazier Park...Dave was on TV as well...lol As session king arent you first a composer that plays bass guitar? This is what I am in awe of...the blank canvas and you creating parts (orchestration) within a tight time frame that lasts forever paid scale which i never understood...you are writing the song and should get writing credit
C’mon Lee, you are truly a legend. So drop the fake beard already. It’s been decades, and absolutely nobody’s buying it. 😂😂😂
My entire family & I had COVID & we’re unvaccinated. We never went to the hospital or had any serious health issues we just quarantined & had cold symptoms for a week then that was it. We’re completely fine & healthy now.
That's really lucky for you. A good friend of mine has long COVID and significant cognitive issues. Just because you were lucky, doesn't mean it's not a dangerous virus.
Der Kamerad Herr Nash wohnt noch in Neue York?
did you ever bump into Kraftwerk?
Only saw them on video
Hi Lee. I'm in Australia , and it's Summer at the moment. and is warm, even HOT, depending on your frame of reference. We have to do something about Climate Change as a society, not just disparate countries. And I love your daily videos as well, just to bring the mood up from the climate crisis situation.
It’s called “weather!”
Your video turned up in my column of recommended clips. I'm afraid I don't know much about you but am extremely impressed by the list of credits you have, according to Wikipedia, with so many great and diverse artists over your career. I didn't find much of interest in this video, however. I would have appreciated more commentary on your approach to playing bass on the song featured and in general. The instrumental work on that Graham Nash song is beautiful and sets a strong mood, as you suggest; his vocals are appealing as well. I don't consider the melody distinguished, and the lyrics are a bit cliched and shallow. But I can understand that hearing recordings on which you've played, ones that hold good memories for you, could be a pleasure for you to revive. I just don't believe it serves much purpose to simply play the song while you listen to it, then don't say much about it. Still, I wish you well and hope you continue to enjoy playing music as you seem to have done for so many decades with so many noteworthy artists.
These sessions are fun...I feel like I should be making you a sandwich or something
The guy who left England and came here and did nothing but whine and complain about America.
