Do you want a stronger body? Higher IQ? Beautiful skin? Cure all heart and blood diseases? You can have everything! Watch this video and learn how to make your own Tran - the magic potion made in Norway. All Norwegian children are forced to take this every day and you will find it in refrigerators all over Norway. We can’t live without it.
But be warned, this video might make you nauseous and dizzy. It’s a disgusting and nasty process. The result is wonderful and magical.
In this video, you will meet two small boys from Norway, trying Tran for the very first time. How will they react? And you will meet people from Italy, Spain, Asia and Sweden trying to swallow this smelly and obnoxious Norwegian remedy. Can they cope with this or will they puke?
Thanks to M & M. You are the stars of this video! Thanks a lot to our participants from all over the world - you make this video great.
Music: Thanks to Freesound.org and “Highland documentary” - Bent Pixlr.

My British grandmother, born 1901, used to give this to her kids, a teaspoon a day to keep them "regular." I don't know if it was rotted for 6 months in the sun, that wouldn't pass food safety standards today, but thank God cod liver oil is available in capsules now! The kids are adorable.

I grew up in Africa and while I was at boarding school there our parents had a very clever way of making sure we got our dose of cod liver oil every day. You see they disguised it in something called 'Malt Extract', it smelled fishy but did it taste fishy? No way, it tasted so yummy that we were always trying to sneak over and take more than the tablespoon full that we were allowed. Just imagine how much bigger the cod liver oil business would be in Norway if you included it as an ingredient in 'Malt Extract' and the typical family scene in a Norwegian household would be so different, instead of the adults chasing the young children around to give them their spoonful of cod liver oil, the children will be chasing the adults around the home trying to get more spoonfuls of malt extract. I would love to see an experiment with the same kids, except this time you offer them 'Malt Extract' and see there reaction?

      @@eleo_b
The English term for it is 'cod liver oil' (kabeljauw-lever-olie) and the (new) Norwegian is exactly that 'torskeleverolje'
The English 'liver' is 'lever' in as well dutch as Norwegian and 'tran' is also (old) Norwegian for 'cod liver oil'.
So, my best guess is they all have a lot of similarities and we are talking about the same stuff.
Cod liver oil (levertraan) is made of the liver of cods (kabeljauwen), haddocks (schelvissen) and other gadiforms (kabeljauwachtigen).

Mmm I love tran! I have nearly run out of the bottle I bought last time I was in Norway. If I don't get back to Norway soon, I might not make it back. Because, of course, the strength that magic tran gives me is what I need to get there.
Seriously, it's a fairly bland taste. I was fed cod liver oil as a child, and I remember it being much stronger a taste. It's one of those tastes that you come to like over time. I'd actually prefer Möllers Tran if it were a little stronger in taste. And here in Wales, they seem to do all they can to take the taste out of cod liver oil.
But it's also worth noting that tran is not just cod liver oil. In a pharmacy in Tromsø a few years ago, I asked for tran, and was given "selolje". According to the label, Greenland Harp Seal oil. So beware!
I hope Greenpeace aren't reading this.

Seriously, it is said that many people who live north of the latitude of Atlanta, Georgia (U.S.A.) have low vitamin D levels and this causes or aggravates many terrible and chronic diseases. Yes, cod liver has been a tradition since people came to the coast of Norway, I think. Lets say 10 000 years ago. The waters outside Norway never freeze, so we can fish all year long. Thanks for your interest, we love to have watchers & commenters from Indonesia :-D

Hi. I was wondering how Norway is approaching salmon farming? here, the good stores tell shoppers only wild caught salmon is now carried. The sad part here is that Michigan has the most incredible salmon streams, and the great lakes. I grew up in the Northeast where ocean fish was the daily food; smoked whitefish for breakfast, sturgon also, tunafish - which I watched coming in, our whole town would come to see the Albacore and smaller Bluefins getting weighed, they were well over 400 lbs! Dinner cod or Flounder, salmon filet, always fish. Gifelte ( mushed up whitefish with egg white and poaced, eaten with beet horseradish). When I came here to Michigan, I bought the fishing license with an additional trout stamp so I could fish for great Trout. Along with the licenses I got documents and the rules for fishing, from small creeks on our farm for trout, to the giant lakes we live on. There was very important rules about the eating especially of the beautiful strong Salmons. You can only eat per YEAR a small amount, no pregnant woman or child to eat any, Do not eat belly area, and other parts of the fish. It is because of the PCB that were dumped into the Great Lakes and other toxic chemicals, mining, coal, steel industry . That was 23 jahren ago, I lost my taste for the fish here. No more cod in the New England states ( very little), flounder is gone, tuna fish from ocean about 40 lbs or so. So we ( the world) gone to fish farming, ja? Thinking it was safe and going to help us restore the balance of nature. That I think was good idea, we have our trout stocked into our stream but we always have water quality checked. Last week, a giant cow farm had million gallons of manure spill and we have been watching the helicopters go up and down our river (Little Thornapple River), following the spill. After this long story, we who have grown up with our Nordic fishing friends by Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and commiserated about the down of fish economy, and instituting fish farms, where is the people who legislate the amount of very bad additives in the salmon farms in Norway. The people here now, in Michigan, have become very protective and watchful of our health ouf fish. I cannot tell you if salmon is better, now other chemicals are showing up in humans water from shoe factory by Grand Rapids. The Wolverine Boot company used a waterproofer back perhaps the 1960’s and threw out the excess and barrels in the woods. Now, entire towns have toxic water, that is underground and never drinkable again. In Norway, the drugs, pesticides, used in fish farming; how is this affecting your whole country? I worry too much about people I know all over the world, we are old now and so hoping newer generations can help. What do you see? Thank you so much! This crazy super vitamin fish juice reminded me of cod liver oil. The vitamin cure all we had 60 years ago. BLECH UHG GAG .

Ronald, I swear that most kids in 1950's America were forced by their parents to take cod liver oil pills every morning-- just like all us little boys had to wear *exactly* the same T-shirt, that had those ugly, different sized horizontal stripes that made us all look like TV's with bad reception.
Swallowing those cod liver oil pills was bad enough ... but they had a weird after-effect that was even worse. About 10am, you would suddenly burp out loud, and then the smell of a wrecked fishing fleet filled the classroom air. I'm surprised that stray cats didn't follow me around and try to eat my face.
