Do you want a stronger body? Higher IQ? Beautiful skin? Cure all heart and blood diseases? You can have everything! Watch this video and learn how to make your own Tran - the magic potion made in Norway. All Norwegian children are forced to take this every day and you will find it in refrigerators all over Norway. We can’t live without it.
But be warned, this video might make you nauseous and dizzy. It’s a disgusting and nasty process. The result is wonderful and magical.
In this video, you will meet two small boys from Norway, trying Tran for the very first time. How will they react? And you will meet people from Italy, Spain, Asia and Sweden trying to swallow this smelly and obnoxious Norwegian remedy. Can they cope with this or will they puke?
Thanks to M & M. You are the stars of this video! Thanks a lot to our participants from all over the world - you make this video great.
Music: Thanks to Freesound.org and “Highland documentary” - Bent Pixlr.

Travel to Norway, going to Norway, how is it in Norway, Norwegian life, life in Norway, study in Norway, Norwegian
Your awesome! The Norwegian government should consider using you in travel commercials as a cultural ambassador!
Colin Rynne ... i agree with you, exactly the same what I've been thinking🇳🇴💯👌
Yes! He makes it so much more interesting and fun. Want to go now!
1000000000 thumbs up!
God this was such a funny one! Those children are so darling!
You make me laugh so hard! I’m crying! I didn’t know Norwegians have such a good sense of humour!!!
Anna Fartukova I am the same hahaha I want to move there because of him
@@Lanja1991 I know!
it's because he's not 100% 😉
I think the woman in the bookshop wanted to throw her coffe at him but she needed it to get the taste out of her mouth😂😂😂
My husband is Norwegian so I know all about cod liver oil. His mother once got me to try it,I think she was just trying to scare me away from him.😄
Well it didn't work we are still married and have a 2yr anniversary in June.
@@kate5176 why didn't you say to your mother in law: "Begone, evil succubus! Thou shall not keep me away from the viking who impregnated me"
A true test.
Amazing children so stoic! Not one eeewww or aaarrggh while you dissected that monster cod. Kudos to them.
Baby vikings in training. 😉
The older one let out some high pitched screams a few times.
I've never seen whole fish come out of another whole fish. °_°
'its like Christmas' hilarious
@F C No Nooo... very kewl.
@@faithrada It ate so many though!
Brave kids...True Norwegians: They didn't show any emotions. Hahahaha
So sweet that they didn't even said it was bad!
Hehe, agree. Very sweet and true to their Viking heritage ;) But if I ask them now if they want tran - both start screaming and making strange faces. The oldest said it makes him puke. And they will never try it again.. Thanks for watching and commenting! And merry christmas :)
Are they your children or nephews?
I'm not even planning on visiting Norway but your videos are hypnotic!! Well done!
You made our day with your beautiful and motivational comment. Thank you so much Karina :)
My British grandmother, born 1901, used to give this to her kids, a teaspoon a day to keep them "regular." I don't know if it was rotted for 6 months in the sun, that wouldn't pass food safety standards today, but thank God cod liver oil is available in capsules now! The kids are adorable.
Paper WoolAndGlue my family and i take a spoonful a day!! Need those omega 3 and vitamin a and d.
Well, if you ever cut open those krill tablets they smell rotten. I take this stuff called Nordic naturals for my health condition. It has a lemon taste but its greasy and you can still tell its fish oil. Next time I'm getting capsules although I bet in the oil form it absorbs better. Lol.
That was probably "castor oil" a liquid laxative they used to give children on a daily basis to " keep them regular " not cod liver oil.
i love the swedish guy took it only after ronald goaded him... LOL
I was raised taking cod liver oil. I was born prematurely and my mother made me take it everyday. I weighed 200 pounds in high school. Too much Tran?
Love your videos forever! 😊You made me smile again😊
"It comes in capsules!!" 😂😂
Muito obrigado. You make us smile for sure. We love your summary of this video :)
In the US when I was a child we were given Cod Liver oil. It was an old fashioned remedy, not much in favor today. It didn't taste very good.
E schaefer In Canada also. We were given it every day at school.
Cod liver oil is very much in favor with health conscious folks in the US today. It’s considered a must in a nutrient dense diet due to its omega 3 content, also vitamin a.
Love the bottle, nice design
Kids are chubby & cuddly, look happy and well cared
Hi taru570. They really are!! :):) Thanks for your nice words.
This was very entertaining. That poor Swedish man!
Yes, poor him 🤣🤣 Thanks Bjarb J
Of all the people; The Swedish guy who has Surströmming every summer puts on the biggest show.jeeeeeeez!
I was thinking the same :D
He was the most entertaining though.
I grew up in Africa and while I was at boarding school there our parents had a very clever way of making sure we got our dose of cod liver oil every day. You see they disguised it in something called 'Malt Extract', it smelled fishy but did it taste fishy? No way, it tasted so yummy that we were always trying to sneak over and take more than the tablespoon full that we were allowed. Just imagine how much bigger the cod liver oil business would be in Norway if you included it as an ingredient in 'Malt Extract' and the typical family scene in a Norwegian household would be so different, instead of the adults chasing the young children around to give them their spoonful of cod liver oil, the children will be chasing the adults around the home trying to get more spoonfuls of malt extract. I would love to see an experiment with the same kids, except this time you offer them 'Malt Extract' and see there reaction?
I remember hearing about Malt Extract actually. Wonder if my granny used it in bread?? Haha, so true. If the cod liver oil had a sweet taste both of the boys would chase it all over the house!!
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY I put a little bit cod liver oil into a syringe and rest is juice, my kids think it's a treat. I also make cod liver salad, mash cooked cod liver with hard boiled eggs and scallions, it's very yummy. Btw, I'm Russian.
David, I was born in Central African Republic and my older sisters attended a missionary boarding school in Crampel, as did all the MK's in the area. Was yours a mission school? Don't know whether they took cod liver oil.
As a student from the United States of America in Norway I took a shot of cod liver oil every day at breakfast. I still do it today, but I take krill oil pills. Much easier to take daily. My Norwegian roots run strong.
I love those two norwegian children. Their reaction and haircut is so cute. I love how you convinced Mr Sweden to have a spoonful.
Haha, he regrets it
In old American cartoons children are shown grimacing at their daily spoonful of cod liver oil. Not aged in the sun for 4-6 months, though. Now we have it in capsules, like the Swedish guy says.
The stomach full of herring was amazing, though. Like a nice bonus, along with the caviar.
Cool to hear , thanks 😃
I love this channel. Always makes my day and puts a big smile on my face! Thanks guys!🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, eh?
Merry Christmas, Ronald ;)
So true Caya. But this stuff is overkill. Merry Christmas to you too Caya - always a pleasure talking to you :)
I've never been kid fed by fish oil so I hardly know how does this can taste, but the way this "cure" is made is descriptive enough.
Brave kids.
Thanks for video :)
btw. what about some Christmas special issue of yourway2norway?
Hehe, very brave kids. But now they really hate it. I know, we should have had a x-mas special. Maybe next year. Did not have time to make two videos before today. And thats our challenge in the team - time to create..
My traktor will run on Tran. It's great stuff.
Cod liver oil was my italian mom secret super power potion! She would turn up with a bottle and a spoon and a wedge of
lemon and you knew there was no way out....my father too had to undergo
the cod liver torture and he also knew that there was no denying her.
Cod liver = tough love
luckily she was also very good at preparing stoccafisso alla vicentina so we still loved her.
Omg I love your story so much 😍🤩😍👌😂 mille gratzie
Blecher, I can't stand the taste of cod: fresh, salted, dried, jellied etc. It does not matter it is all grosssssss.
@@esmeraldagreen1992 I think only the italians know how to turn codfish into delicious food.
@F C many other fishes host parasites in their inners, however I do agree with you that the bit about liver worms is incredibly gross and btw I have been totally finished with codliver oil since a few decades....but you know, something else is making me very uneasy about cod: it's considered the pig of the seas....that cannot be good.
In Holland we call it “Levertraan" - literally ‘liver tears”. So it makes sense to me that Norwegians call it "Tran"
stericnz hahahaha!!!🤣🤣
Like many of us who just recently got exposed to you schooling us on everything Norwegian, I am here to catch up with your wacky insights a spoonful at a time 😉
😝 . This one was a bit tough to swallow, but 👏👏👏 to the production. Special effects, perfect kids, and that cod spilled it's guts and gave it all. 😅
Having a lot of fun on my virtual visits.
Brilliant ! Loved it !.. sarcastic perspective .. show and tell cod liver oil !!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I laughed...really hard at the ending. This episode was great! Thanks guys. I really feel like I get the best of Norway from watching.
Ronald, I’m not a Nord but I remember my mother lining us up as children and feeding us CLO. She dispensed it with a dropper. I must say, all 6 of her children have remained healthy. Oldest is 74, youngest is 59! 👍🏼
The Swedish gentleman was the best!
I swear it's like listening to my grandmother! I haven't laughed so hard in YEARS!! The Swede topped the cake! Oh my, thank you for making my day 🤣
We call it Levertraan in the Netherlands and about 70 years ago all children had to take it because their parents told them it was healthy.
Nowadays we do not do that anymore. You can buy it in capsules now, so you don't have to taste it, but not many are sold.
Haha, your word is our old word for it: levertran
YOURWAY2NORWAY | does it also translate to “liver tear” in Norwegian? As a kid, I used to always think levertraan was made from whales!
@@eleo_b
The English term for it is 'cod liver oil' (kabeljauw-lever-olie) and the (new) Norwegian is exactly that 'torskeleverolje'
The English 'liver' is 'lever' in as well dutch as Norwegian and 'tran' is also (old) Norwegian for 'cod liver oil'.
So, my best guess is they all have a lot of similarities and we are talking about the same stuff.
Cod liver oil (levertraan) is made of the liver of cods (kabeljauwen), haddocks (schelvissen) and other gadiforms (kabeljauwachtigen).
Czar Zenana | yes, I know we’re talking about the same thing. I was just asking if the _word_ “levertran” in Norwegian also literally translates to “liver tears”.
The kids are just so adorable 😍 lol when the Swedish guy took it, even you had to take it with all your might 😂
I can not stop laughing! Hilarious!🤣
“It comes in capsules!” Hahaha!! Oh I laughed so much. Love this series! Thank you for sharing it.
Dude, you've got one of the best UA-cam channels, by far!!!
You know how to make this team very happy. Thanks for your comment. We appriciate it a lot!!
True!!!
I'm half Scottish and half Norwegian. 70 years ago while living in Scotland as a toddler i would get cod liver oil on a spoon. I loved it and would lick the spoon.we moved to the USA when I was 4 1/2. Then we were given cod liver oil in capsules. My mother said it was because people didn't like the taste. That I didn't understand as I thought and still to this day think that it is delicious. So I would chew them up. I'm 71 very healthy and I take no medication. I take cod liver oil every morning. Love it. Must be my Norwegian genes.
Mmm I love tran! I have nearly run out of the bottle I bought last time I was in Norway. If I don't get back to Norway soon, I might not make it back. Because, of course, the strength that magic tran gives me is what I need to get there.
Seriously, it's a fairly bland taste. I was fed cod liver oil as a child, and I remember it being much stronger a taste. It's one of those tastes that you come to like over time. I'd actually prefer Möllers Tran if it were a little stronger in taste. And here in Wales, they seem to do all they can to take the taste out of cod liver oil.
But it's also worth noting that tran is not just cod liver oil. In a pharmacy in Tromsø a few years ago, I asked for tran, and was given "selolje". According to the label, Greenland Harp Seal oil. So beware!
I hope Greenpeace aren't reading this.
Congrats, first time I heard that; ❤ tran 👌 and you are a real connoisseur! Love your taste story! Thanks
You!
Because ... You.
I believe Norwegians are not shy
as they want us to believe.
You are real.
Real human being.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for being awesome and motivating!
I was raised way up in the Rocky Mountains of Idaho where we had very long winters. Mom gave me a spoonful of cod liver oil every day in the winter and for whatever reason I like it. I had no idea, until now, how it was made. I actually did not know exactly what a cod looked like. Now I do, inside and out.
Seriously, it is said that many people who live north of the latitude of Atlanta, Georgia (U.S.A.) have low vitamin D levels and this causes or aggravates many terrible and chronic diseases. I test extremely low for Vitamin D and it has been prescribed by my doctor. If more people were tested and appropriately treated, many would feel better or even be healed from some terrible things. Norwegians have it right with ¨Tran.¨
Such an awesome story and link to our content. Thanks for sharing. Vitamin D is important
Now I simply MUST go on eBay to see if I can find some of this Tran, or amazon. You really made me curious! Plus I really believe in these old tried and true remedies!
Hey Ronald,
Keep making those videos about wonderful Norway. You do not make enough of them. Thanks !
Such a nice and inspiring comment benthead. You make our day. We will make more very soon. Thanks a lot :)
+benthead hi. Thanks for inspiring words. :). We do this in our spare time, and it's quite hard to grow bigger outside Norway. Would love if you tipped us about fb groups to join- or shared (only if you want, off course). Sorry for begging. Best, Mads, the producer.
Excuse my ignorance, but I am not quite sure what you mean by Facebook "groups" ?
I am not really a member of any Facebook club that I know of.
I hope that I am not disappointing you.
Your videos though, really brighten my day
Thanks anyway for very inspiring words. We promote our channel at Facebook, and always tries to find relevant groups and pages which show interest in Norway and Scandinavian culture (+ fun). It is hard when you do a search from Norway, as Facebooks algorythms just gives you Norwegian result - thus I asked you if you knew about any communites or groups we could contact/be member of/contribute to - it could as well be a web page :). No fuzz :)
Ronald,
Try googling the "Norwegian Club of San Francisco" or fb "Norwegian Club of San Francisco".
They are small group, but certainly a quirky one.
You're Hilarious!!! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the terrific video! ❤
I'm going back and forth between laughing hysterically and being totally grossed out!! 😀😬🤢🤮Great Video Ronald and Madds.
Haha, cool. The kids has not tasted tran since that video was recorded ;)
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY I bet.
No thanks. I will stick with heart disease.
Ronald, you and the Swedish guy had the best facial expressions after the intake of Tran. I just remembered, the rest of the World calls Tran as Omega 3 Capsules.
Or liver cod capsules 😊
1) In the north, we drink Tran before going to the pub. It makes it easier to drink more.
2) Also, The best part of the cod is the tongue. Cod tongue stew is the BEST meal in the world.
3) Fresh Tran is actually very nice to drink. But it must be home made.
Hehe, tran can be used for a lot of things. As an ingredient in painting too. Does the tran trick work the day after also? Does it cure hangover?
YOURWAY2NORWAY
I think an episode about communication with others in pubs would be really nice :)
I am from U.S. and we drank cod liver oil as children, not so much as adult, lol!
That is awesome to hear. You are a true Norwegian Red Karma. Welcome home soon ;);)
Levertraan we call it in Dutch 😂😂😂... it’s something from generations before me. The horror stories from my grandmother kept me from ever trying it!
Wtf!? Levertran we say here too. Our languages are so similar. Ps, those horror stories are true 🤣🤮🤣
My mother use to give us cod liver oil. She would put a little salt in the spoon - I guess that helped make it palatable. I'm American.
Ronald, after I watched this video I had to eat some toast, it made me so sick to my tummy. lol 🌵🌵🌵
Lol. If it helps, the oldest boy in the video was sick for four hours after we recorded. And none of them will try it again
Growing up, my grandmother used it as a punishment
I love the lemon flavored mollers! Got 2 bottles right in my fridge. Used to take the original scotts cod liver oil every day when I was a kid and absolutely loved it too...
When I was a kid 60 years ago everyone got cod liver oil. It was thought especially important for children to get a spoonful each day in winter. Now you never hear of it.
So true. I used to bite into an onion to cut the oily taste. My siblings and I had to stand in line for our "medicine". LOL.😂
We were just laughing until we were crying, this was so funny! HAHA!!!
When you were running around your house with a spoon of fish oil, I thought, "Oh my God, his house is going to stink like rancid fish oil for months"
🤣🤣🤣 so did the mom in the house too
but that fish was fresh soo... maybe its less stinky fresh ? My mom lived in norway and said the fish didnt smell as bad there cause it was fresh !
@@ah5721 Fish oil will oxidize when exposed to air. If you open a good quality fish oil capsule, it may not smell, but if you let it sit outside for a few days it will stink like hell. Now, if you spill it onto your clothes, you can throw them out.
@@hpyrkh3 good to know
My Dad had my sister and one of my brothers take this cod liver oil daily because he thought they were under-weight. My brother gagged and refused to take any more, but my sister dutifully took it and turned out lovely. Years later, while living abroad, I was diagnosed as under-weight as well, and envied my sister and her cod-liver oil.
Awesome story. Thanks for sharing 😄😄
It is very entertaining! The two kids are so cute! I am going to buy and try Tran now :)
Hei Red, takk for sist :) They are, thanks. You weel feel so more Norwegian after trying it, but you might also feel sick - just a warning ;) Let us know how it went. Good luck. See you around
My mother used to take salt cod, soak it and fix creamed salt cod and potatoes for Christmas breakfast or Christmas Eve supper.
Sounds very 😋🇧🇻😋
LOL I am crying here! LOOOOL I was forced to drink that as child everyday before going to school, had to keep on a straight face and I am not Norwegian! LOL
I just came across your channel and I haven't stop watching all your episodes. You are sooo original and funny. I remember as a child in Peru taking Norwegian Cod Liver oil but your kids are so well behaved. I would run around the house so that I wouldnt have to take it. Cheers and upload more videos!
oh dear god i had to keep looking away...but the children looked very interested and BRAVE to try it. I will stick with just eating fish. thanks!
He is warped and I am all kinds of here for it! 😂
Wow.its amazing you can make cod liver oil. Our grandparents used to take it and use it to cure colds and all sicknesses but we don't now but probably should.
I took it 60 years ago, in the deep South of Brazil. I think it made me resilient to adversity.
Hahaha I love how you highlighted the secret ingredient! And this is such knowledge, didn't know Norwegians have been doing this for thousand years
My team mate Mads, will be very happy to read this comment. He is the man behind the special effect and editing, in addition to being the camera man. Yes, cod liver has been a tradition since people came to the coast of Norway, I think. Lets say 10 000 years ago. The waters outside Norway never freeze, so we can fish all year long. Thanks for your interest, we love to have watchers & commenters from Indonesia :-D
Awesome! Send my regards to Mads :) Whoa that's interesting to know, 10.000 years ago is a long time. And you're welcome, I enjoy your videos and have been learning quite a lot, please don't stop.
I will :)
My father used to give us a tablespoon of cod liver oil every night followed by a bite of orange. It was a ritual for years. Probably not a bad idea since people in the Pacific Northwest tend to have low Vitamin D levels.
So proud of these small ones reaction!?! :D
It used to be healthy but now with our globally polluted waters, cod liver oil has a lot of toxins and is high in mercury. The Swedish guy was hilarious - great videos, thank you!! : )
I take food supplement made from cod liver oil in orange . It gives a smooth texture and never tasted bad at all. Your blogs are always interesting, funny and educationaI. I never get tired watching so keep on 👏👏
When I was young I was also force-fed cod liver oil! But the cod liver oil was in emulsion form, and flavoured with orange! I remember enjoying it very much because of the orange flavour.
Also, I recognise the street and the cafe you were filming at!
You were a lucky child. I only had the original oil. I have tried the orange capsule, it does not taste bad when you swallow it. But if and when you burp - its a bad and sad story ;) Are you from / living in Oslo Eveline How?
No but my friend is! I bunked in with him when I was visiting. That's why the street looked familiar!
I see - you have a good memory :)
I've had Tran before. It was fine. I'm german though so i'm not as sensitive than others when it comes to foods.
Hi. I was wondering how Norway is approaching salmon farming? here, the good stores tell shoppers only wild caught salmon is now carried. The sad part here is that Michigan has the most incredible salmon streams, and the great lakes. I grew up in the Northeast where ocean fish was the daily food; smoked whitefish for breakfast, sturgon also, tunafish - which I watched coming in, our whole town would come to see the Albacore and smaller Bluefins getting weighed, they were well over 400 lbs! Dinner cod or Flounder, salmon filet, always fish. Gifelte ( mushed up whitefish with egg white and poaced, eaten with beet horseradish). When I came here to Michigan, I bought the fishing license with an additional trout stamp so I could fish for great Trout. Along with the licenses I got documents and the rules for fishing, from small creeks on our farm for trout, to the giant lakes we live on. There was very important rules about the eating especially of the beautiful strong Salmons. You can only eat per YEAR a small amount, no pregnant woman or child to eat any, Do not eat belly area, and other parts of the fish. It is because of the PCB that were dumped into the Great Lakes and other toxic chemicals, mining, coal, steel industry . That was 23 jahren ago, I lost my taste for the fish here. No more cod in the New England states ( very little), flounder is gone, tuna fish from ocean about 40 lbs or so. So we ( the world) gone to fish farming, ja? Thinking it was safe and going to help us restore the balance of nature. That I think was good idea, we have our trout stocked into our stream but we always have water quality checked. Last week, a giant cow farm had million gallons of manure spill and we have been watching the helicopters go up and down our river (Little Thornapple River), following the spill. After this long story, we who have grown up with our Nordic fishing friends by Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and commiserated about the down of fish economy, and instituting fish farms, where is the people who legislate the amount of very bad additives in the salmon farms in Norway. The people here now, in Michigan, have become very protective and watchful of our health ouf fish. I cannot tell you if salmon is better, now other chemicals are showing up in humans water from shoe factory by Grand Rapids. The Wolverine Boot company used a waterproofer back perhaps the 1960’s and threw out the excess and barrels in the woods. Now, entire towns have toxic water, that is underground and never drinkable again. In Norway, the drugs, pesticides, used in fish farming; how is this affecting your whole country? I worry too much about people I know all over the world, we are old now and so hoping newer generations can help. What do you see? Thank you so much! This crazy super vitamin fish juice reminded me of cod liver oil. The vitamin cure all we had 60 years ago. BLECH UHG GAG .
Personally I feel the same as you and agree with all what you share. There are a growing number of people like you in Norway. The fish farm industry here is very powerful and knows how to use brand building to reach Norwegians hearts too. It's a 😢😢situation. Thank you for enlightning us all ❤
Ronald, you are competing with the Swede. Lol
Haha
It comes in capsules! Lmao! Omg! I can't stop laughing! 🤣
Haha, but the burp taste after capsules is horrible too!!!
when I went to a health food store in Amerika I found this stuff called "Norwegian cod liver," or something like that..
Thats the Magic Potion! Cool to hear that you have it over there. Have you tasted it? Merry Christmas :)
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY ONLY do it in the capsules dude!

Cool to hear. Thanks for sharing
I thought only black grandmas forced children to take spoons of this hahahahah. #nostalgia
... And to think I thought that *Lutefisk* sounded *horrible!!!*
Ronald, I swear that most kids in 1950's America were forced by their parents to take cod liver oil pills every morning-- just like all us little boys had to wear *exactly* the same T-shirt, that had those ugly, different sized horizontal stripes that made us all look like TV's with bad reception.
Swallowing those cod liver oil pills was bad enough ... but they had a weird after-effect that was even worse. About 10am, you would suddenly burp out loud, and then the smell of a wrecked fishing fleet filled the classroom air. I'm surprised that stray cats didn't follow me around and try to eat my face.
Amazing video. I learn about your culture and I had fun watching you.
Such sweet kids! What a fun afternoon.
Hehe. Love it! This Norvegian "olive oil" getting more and more popular in the US. Good for your cholesterol by the way.
Cool to hear, thanks for sharing. And yes, very good for cholesterol. But the taste is a big hurdle 😝😝😝
Got me laughing!!!! Those poor tiny taste testers!
