Next on Modern History TV: Medieval trebuchet vs modern building, who would win?
YESSS would like to see that too!😮😁
Would definitely watch
Trebuchet vs Nursery 😁
This would fair only if building attacked back.
Trebuchete vs Orphanage please!
*Sword fails at breaking window*
Highway Pebble: "step aside"
Ceramic... is a classic goto.
Kinetic energy = 1/2 * mass * velocity _squared._
There's a reason getting hit by a baseball bat can break your arm while getting hit by a bullet can liquefy your internal organs. That "velocity squared" term packs a real punch.
This is why slings were and remain very scary things.
@@stonehorsegaming: Yep. Harder than hell to aim accurately, though. Hence the invention of the slingshot instead.
@@shawnhtpc2271 Balearic slingers were very accurate by all accounts. They did train a lot with the sling it must be said, but I think that is true of any weapon. The more training the more effective the user.
Biggest draw back to slings is the space they need, so can't form combat ranks, and the time required to get momentum means they are exposed for a bit.
Still, the sling even to this day is a nasty weapon.
As Jason said, “It’s always good to confirm these things”
Never know when the next interstate car joust will be!
Depends on the city you drive in.🤣🤣
Now I want to see that. 🤣
Interstate 1476!
I was wondering if this started out by him locking his keys in the car.
Lmfao
The insurance company: "Please describe the incident."
...
"You won't believe it! I was driving along, minding my own business, when suddenly a medieval knight, mounted on a battle horse, with full body armour, attacked me with a sword. I was lucky to escape with my life!"
He needed a live subject 🤷♂️
Sorry that incident is not covered. Would you like to add a special rider to your current plan for an additional $300 in case it happens again?
"Ah well on that road it had to be Jason Kingsley we'll send him the bill"
*That'd* be an experiment. Charging a car at full tilt with a lance!
Probably won't ever happen, though, because 1) might break something other than the windshield you were going to replace anyway, 2) a bit dangerous for the rider, and 3) most importantly, dangerous for the horse.
Surely, you joust!
Insurance company: ‘What happend’??..Oh we had an accident with a sword
Farmers Insurance "Yes we can add that to our wall of unusual claims...goats ramming the car, driving it into a swimming pool....Yea we cover that". 🎶 We are Farmers...bum bum bum bum bum 🎶 🤣🤣🤣
It happened last knight
@@Buzgut Marvelous!
Act of God fearing knight.
@@BuzgutOh man... That killed me... ⚰️
Plot twist: He doesn’t even own that Car, poor thing was at the wrong place at the wrong time
You mean our good knight was at the right place at the right time for his interesting experiment. We all guessed the result but it's always good to be sure.
Mr. Kingsley can get away with this sort of thing because fāma.
Someone parked in his space
Yeah that was my thought. wait 'til his neighbors get back form their holiday in Spain.
That's what happens Larry!
That rug is the most Jason Kingsley rug you could've found :)
I was about to say!
rug supplyed by aladdin
I thought that too!
"Use the French rug, no point using the good one."
Jason fits the medieval era so well that I forgot that he even lives in the modern era with cars 🤦♂️
Me too!😂
Funny. Made me laugh.
Who needs a car with a stable of beautiful horses
YES!!!
It only seems that way because he's British.
"A knight attacked my car!"
*Your insurance doesn't cover this*
Game Over
CLARKSONNNNN lol
Reminds me of that one tumblr post about a knight stabbing the garden floor to kill the worms
😂😂😂😂
It might do with Hastings?!
I can honestly say, as a fellow who has had many odd thoughts, that I have never considered the efficacy of swords on cars. That said, please carry on!
Sadiq Khan's knife crime fetish is getting out of hand...
"Have at thee, horseless chariot!"
Nice demonstration. But how would a medieval knight fare against a Mitsubishi in a full tilt joust? (Please do not accept this challenge!)
We have to assume they're both going to be going at the same speed. Also, it would be quite difficult for the Mitsubishi driver to hold the lance. Perhaps if the front offside door were cut off it could work. We're also going to assume the driver is skilled enough not to crash into the lists.
@DeSPoTNemanjaS Because the car in the video is a Mitsubishi
Flip the bonnet open and then go for the fuel lines?
Well, for jousting you will need Mitsubishi LANCER.
Please DO accept that challenge!
Could a medieval knight learn to operate a forklift and then engage in forklift jousting?
lol
i was joust about to say that LOL
Oh that grin when announcing your intentions! 🤣 I love your historical content, but these are also wonderful. And a great big round of applause for Kasumi 👏👏👏 for her mad editing skills but especially for the perfect choice of music! 😂🤣😂
Hope you've all been well.
Glad you enjoy it. Kas is pleased you like her work!
that smile at the start is wonderful
smilessss
My thought exactly, a sadistic smile :D
When i was learning blacksmithing in early 90´s, then we use to test some sturdier swords for fun on old Lada car roof. Most blades would go through, when thrusting. Cutting was more difficult, but some blades managed to cut thru too. Best cutter was blade made out of soviet tank track bolt. But you had to heat treat it carefully in oil. Managed to snap one blade too, made it to long dagger
excellent!
USING SWORDS AGAINST CARS!!!
Best start to my day off ever
I bet it would do quite a bit of damage to the tires
Wait until you level up to "horny girlfriend".
:-) one might ask -Jean Reno- Godefroy de Papincourt, Count of Montmirail about his glorious victory versus the -Citroën- infernal moorish chariot
(as chronicled in _Les Visiteurs_ (1993), that 12th-century Gallic documentary about traveling through the tunnels under the mountains of time lol)
good movie!
Messire, Messire, un sarrasin dans une chariote du diable!
LMFAO love it
What's this now? Where do I find it?
@@shawnhtpc2271 Right here, my good man: ua-cam.com/video/Mk4GJaE13gw/v-deo.html
So I'm watching old Top Gear/Grand Tour episodes and this seems right at home.
"So there you have it, the Mitsubishi Outlander makes a great value for the price. But can it stop a sword?"
It's a great concept, and now I'm curious to see more of these "Old vs. New" match-ups. Hope this becomes a series!
Me too but I hope this doesn't get expensive on Mr. Kingsley as it seemed like he already wanted to get rid of that window but a series of this would be costly
the smile in the introduction says everything
I only wondered if I could use a sword against a car windshield once and that was when I actually had to use a sword against the car windshield to get someone out of a car.
They've been in a wreck and the doors did not open so I had to get them out through the windshield and I didn't have anything else to break the windshield with in my car accept a sword I had with me because I've been at a bamboo grove cutting bamboo.
True story...sadly
*But if you're going to do this and really need to get through the windshield use a pointy sword and stab it, then hack away the rest carefully.
Have you tried to use the crossguard as the striker (hold the blade and use the crossguard to puncture the windshield) and then use the sword as a leverage to pill of the shield? Never done anything like that but from what I have understood about the properties of a windshield it could be a viable option...
@@anthonybanderas9930 no I've never tried a morthow although it certainly seems like it would work.
If I ever have a chance to 'play' in a junkyard or something I might give it a go.
Were the side windows not a option? They are much thinner and easer and faster to break through.
@@jsshuntr1257 they were too big to fit out of side windows.
I needed cheering up - so this 'bit of fun' was just right. I'm still smiling - and you're right, Jason: why not try a 'what-if' experiment, especially if it's just for fun!
hugs
@@RichyJFilms Thank you!
I loved the music choice. Very appropriate. Silly and fun for a silly and fun "what if".👍
I'd like to second another subscriber's comment about the music selection for this video. It was perfect! I started to notice how the music enriched the videos with the Medieval Ink video. Since then, it's one of the things I enjoy most. Would you please tell Kasumi that she out did herself with the Behind the Scenes of Percival video. Perfect music choices that stitched together such clips as the shampoo commercial and the Holy Grail. Looking forward to more.
Awesome! Thank you!

I would have done a trombone Wah-Wah on the first one. Ramp it up with dramatics and then nothing. A bit too self deprecating for Jason, I think.
This begs the next important question: How is the Mule with No Name doing? We want to see more of him!
I think he should be named Jack. lol I'm sorry but that one time he dropped the rack of equipment in protest, I think he genuinely lived up to his name.
Yes, I would like to know if he ever got a name! :D
I think he should be named Sancho (for Sancho Panza).
It’s good to know that modern safety glass lives up to its reputation.
If you went in with a point, you could shatter it.
Growing up in Australia during the 1970’s, my family and I travelled Australia. Back then, windscreens would shatter, as I remember well.
I am happy that vehicle safety has improved a lot. 🇦🇺❤️
Nice slo-mo on the glass chips. Skallagrim and Shad are fuming - 'why did I not think of that?'
lol
"BUT WHAT ABOUT DRAGONS?"
"It's a modern laminated windscreen which needs some TLC"
*proceeds to beat with a sword*
That's what they made warhammers for, it's a widely known fact!!!!
Or "Ford's bane" as they're known in Westchester.
"Lockdown, day XXX. Killed my car with a sword, no idea why..."
lol, it's getting to me that's for sure.
With lock down probably coming again we definitely needed this test!
Maybe a mordhau with the crossguard or the pommel would've done more damage?
And I bet a lance would've gone through!
omg that smile of pure delight and mischief in the intro had me rolling
That smile as you gestured at the car was priceless, absolutely had me in stitches Jason! Love your stuff, keep up the great work!
Love to see what an English longbow could do at a variety of distances and with varying arrow types?
"Honey can you get my car windshield replaced this morning?"
"Sure!"
Next day on Modern History TV: "Sword vs car windshield"
😂😂
lol
The slow motion, combined with the music and Jason's face as he strikes make it extremely entertaining.
He works for ministry of silly faces. after all.
My man over here answering life’s important questions.
"whilst it's almost certain no medieval Knight ever fought a car..."
Excellent use of the word almost.
Definitely fun! I was hoping you would start with the sword and move to other weapons, like the mace, hammer, pollaxe, halberd, and so on. Perhaps next time?
It's given me some good ideas!
@@ModernKnight Just leave the pommel throw for last.
@@IamOutOfNames you've got to end your enemies rightly!

Indeed get a beater and attack it, heck if you were in the USA I might even pay to take three swings
That was great fun! You made my day! Can you do a Don Quixote video next, and take on a windmill? 🤪 Thanks for making and posting this video!
Yes
😂😂😂😂😂
Though lacking in spectacularness it was fascinating to see the sword blade flex and ripple from the impact.
I don’t know if this reminds me more of Don Quixote or Monty Python. Either way, this was hilarious!
Def. Monty Python.
A Monty Python skit of Don Quixote?
Well...if a twelve year old girl on a bike with no brakes can't break a car window in just one blow, it wouldn't be a one-handed sword that would. And the girl didn't even get hurt that much, I know, because the girl was me. I just cut my heel on the chainring on the bike, and I was kind of stunned. But my mother was a nurse and knew how to handle the situation until we got to the hospital to sew my heel. The scar is barely noticeable these days.
I never forgot to check the brakes on my bikes again...
I’d kind of expect the sword to have a better chance of going through. I mean, you can chop off somebody’s arm with a sword, but last time I tried, you can’t chop off an arm with a twelve-year-old girl.
@@nochsta that makes sense, actually. If you consider that the contact surface of a child's body is larger than a sword, even if I were a skinny girl, then the impact force is more dispersed than in the sword blow. But I'm not as versed in physics (and I'm definetely NOT Kyle Hill!) to be able to say for sure ...
My original thought was that he was going to stab the windscreen. This was much more entertaining though.
Everybody knows that car windshields are a great facsimile for dragon hide.

I have to admit that it held up pretty well, I imagined it to break apart.

Lots of fun, this. I also liked that Jason was a bit surprised with the results of the 2nd blow after adjusting the angle of attack.
Love this channel❣ 🐎 ❣
I'd like to see what kind of damage a dane axe would've done. *snicker*
"it's always good to confirm these things" wow the brigands on the roads are getting more troublesome than I thought.
Oh yes! Again I live vicariously through this channel!
Glad you enjoy it!
I've wondered exactly this ever since I watched Les Visiteurs with Jean Reno...
Curry, black Darjeeling, fruit cake... and Jason Kingsley assaulting a car with a medieval sword : what a perfectly british evening for a french girl XD
"Hello, could I get my windshield repaired?"
"Yea, what happend?"
"Well...you see..."
lol, you should have seen the repairman's face! 'what blummin happened here then? Me grinning. A stone, a sharp stone with a long handle shaped a bit like a sword...
The musical score on this video is superb
Now go at it with a lance!!! Not really serious because harm might come to the mount, but that would more spectacular
A motorcycle would eliminate _that_ harm. It's hard to find a gyro-balanced robot, so you're stuck with a human rider holding the lance.
@@Stevarooni but i motorcycle is both terrible unstable and probable way lower than a warhorse mounted lancer would be so the angle of attack would be off
@@Stevarooni
Maybe he could borrow Colin Furze’s motorhorse?
Great fun. I watched a mounted knight run the quintain against a military personnel carrier in at Ironfest in Lithgow Australia a couple of years ago (2019 I think).
Scoring by the number of rotations of the quintain, the knight won by a large margin; I think it was three and a half for the APC Vs seven for the knight.
Here I am hoping that there's a video game that this is a "proof of concept" for ?!?
Would be cool to have a game where knights come charging out of time wormholes, or similar !
Video game would go by "rule of cool" anyway.
The slow motion cam was an excellent idea.
Sir I can only imagine the expressions on the faces of the car repair people when you explain what happened.
Ooo, a brand new episode! Exciting! 😁
why do i get the feeling this video idea was born of road rage lol
I’ve watched way too many of your videos and this is probably the most excited I’ve ever seen you 😂
Just for reference silica glass between steel plates was used on the prototype T95 medium tank as armor against cannons. People underestimate glass because all they know are thin panes used in windows/ screens. It would be easy to break a 1mm sheet of concrete with a ball as well, but no one thinks of concrete as weak.
The biggest vulnerability of hardened glass is the edges, which are well protected when the windscreen is installed.
This makes me think of the saying “ boys and their toys”. Smiled all the way through.
7:23 "the anser is... yes... hitting a carwindscreen with 2,5 pounds of steel will destroy it"
Just kidding, love your content!
Your channel never fails to bring me true joy! Thank you for everything!
this is the best video i've ever seen. i've never once regretted subscribing to this channel
Could you do a brief video discussing your horse riding skills, and also as a separate topic, how you progressed from conventional riding skills to doing knight skills on horseback?
Might I recommend using the pommel? It's somewhat analogous to modern tools designed for just this task.
This is the best! Loved it! Thanks a million!
the classical music during the slowmo shoots is quite a nice touch. :)
As the British would say "Smashing!"
I am laughing over here at the sheer stupidity of this idea and how much I wish I had the ability to do something like this.
medieval, demolition, sword might be the greatest list of hashtags of all time.
3:48 "I thought it would take more energy than that"
You clearly had a good upbringing my friend. Kudos 👌 :)
Next: jousting tournaments with cars instead of horses
For now, a few hot conclusions:
An interesting experiment, the more interesting that I predicted a completely different result. I thought you would break that glass with one blow.
As my dad used to say: don't force anything, get a bigger tool. A good polaxe is not bad.
A very comforting movie. If I meet a knight armed only with a sword on my way, I have a chance to survive.
as an urban fantasy writer, I thank you for your service
The key is the flexible plastic layer between the two sheets of glass. That layer is quite good at absorbing the impact by flexing and keeping large shards of glass from flying into the cabin. In short, 'plastics make it possible.' Seems I've heard that somewhere before.
Hardened glass (which this windscreen was definitely made of, judging by the shards) is also most vulnerable at the edges, which are well protected here, and big sheets of glass are always harder to break than small sheets of the same type of glass.
Looking forward to a detailed feasibility study for medieval laminated glass armor 😉
"Windscreen needs a little TLC."
Proceeds to pound it repeatedly ..... LOL
This was immense fun, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

It appears that much like gambeson is intended to do the car window protects the occupants fairly well despite being damaged itself.
Will this be in the dlc for evil genius?
i demand this gets added to that game or i will do a voice of a evil laugh for the dlc :D
Something I didn’t expect to see today: Sir Jason attacking his own car’s windscreen.
That smile. That damn smile !
I would have bludgeoned the windscreen with the pommel at first I think
Two thoughts, 1) I was really worried about rebounds hitting your paintwork all the way through, and 2) That looks like a mace job to me!
I was thinking another day about lawyers on middle age times... I think it should be a nice episode. How people defend themselves peasants and nobility? I would like to watch that.
They’re set a little later (mid-16th century), but can I recommend the Sharlake novels by C. J. Sansom? They’re about a (fictional) lawyer in Tudor England
@@ragnkja nice! I will check this out.
If only someone appeared on film demanding "what have you done to my car!? I said the other car was having its windscreen replaced."
I wasn't expecting this experiment! While watching I was waiting for "choppi boi" to make an appearance. I hope you have fun cleaning the inside of the car - I didn't see any drop sheets inside!
PEOPLE you gotta play the sniper games his team made at his game company they are killer
No, I haven't wondered what would happen if you hit a windscreen with a sword. Well, until now anyway.
This is great!...I love the fleur de lis spread...(The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze?..) perfect..
Now I want a whole series of medieval weapons vs a modern car. Like would a lance at full gallop punch right through it? How about a 180 lbf longbow?
Really want to see the half sword thrust….also, gauntletted punch!
This Is What would have happened if Soul Edge copied the bonus stage of Street Fighter 2. Love It
the plastic laminations held it together surprisingly well. Nasty shards of glass to clean up afterwards though. I wonder if laminated glass might make possible fantasy armour?
@@ModernKnight It was fascinating to see. I also wonder what would have happened with a mace or a warhammer though. I kind of have the feeling those would smash it more easily but unless you have another car that needs replacing we might need to wait on this one :D
It was one of those videos where the opportunity came up, my windscreen needed replacing and they were coming in the morning to do it. So I grabbed a weapon and had some fun, and learnt a few things too.
Here we go!!!! Glad to see another awesome video! This brightened my day!
I loved your reaction when you damaged the windshield the second time you tried!
