This song is truly a incredible testimony to the power of music and the emotional effect it can have on someone. There’s an incredible sense of tragedy and despair but it fights to the end with strength, hope, optimism. I’m not religious but “I Will Return” feels almost sacred. Truly incredible.
I've been on this planet 60 years and never heard a better instrumental hit than this, fantastic guitars keyboards etc, and I still cry every time I hear this tune/classic instrumental.
My brother was 14 when he played this over and over 😁, I was 6 years old and I loved it then, still get the gooses when I play it, love reading the comments it's nice to remunis 😉
Heard this recently on radio 2, i think it was the johnnie walker show. I recognised it straight away as a track i heard on the radio as a child of about 4 years around 71,amazing how it stuck in my brain all these years later.
The very first record I ever bought, it made me cry, can't really say why, but hey, I was only fifteen at the time. I still love that dreamy sound as I did back then, love on, love on.
Yes Paul this tune definitely makes you want to cry ,I remember hearing this all those years ago ,still just as brilliant, timeless piece of music but somehow sad and melancholic.
Ein Lied für die Ewigkeit!! Es wird immer in meiner Seele weiterleben. Erinnerung an Weihnachten 1971. Ich war erst 6 Jahre damals aber der Song hat mich noch lange in meinem Leben begleitet, und gibt mir auch heute noch Kraft. Es lebe die Erinnerung! Rudolf der damals noch in Delbrück wohnte.
Trevor Moore too right Trev great minds and all that, don't know about you but I feel sad melancholic listening to this now. Still sounds great but I don't know I end up in tears hearing it now.
My brother played this record for me when I was just 9 years old and I played it over and over absolutely loved it. My brother died in 1986 and this reminds me of him
bought this when it first came out & played it to death!! unfortunately it snapped in half recently; soon to be replaced with an ebay buy....rip phil & thanks for the music
The first tune I ever learned to play, on a Japanese guitar I bought for a fiver. I still have it and now they tell me, it's worth around two grand. It isn't going anywhere.
the first time i ever asked a girl to dance , think i was about twelve or thirteen , crazy but the feeling comes back the minute i hear this fantastic tune, the fear of her saying no and the joy inside when she said yes
@@paulineklopper your comment popped up on my phone just now and I had to listen to it all the way through again lol I'm 61 now but for a wee while there I was thirteen again ♥️🏴👍
Phil Cordell (17 July 1947 - 31 March 2007) Beautiful melody Many years ago I found a forum where this song was discussed. His son also left a comment and wrote that unfortunately the family does not have this song on vinyl and would like someone to sell it to him.
Brilliant ! How can anyone get that much emotion out of an instrument ? Sometime emotionally hard to listen to ! Phil Cordell was a great guitarist ! The next best person I think could play this song is David Gilmour (Pink Floyd).
He was extraordinary. He adapted classical motifs and multitracked himself like Mike Oldfield would later. I would take "I will return" and "Stone Cross" over many bands entire output, even on bagpipes...
Their doesn't appear to be a lot written about Phil and his extraordinary career. Someone, notably a musical journalist should delve into his musical background and uncover what motivated him to write 'I Will Return' and 'Stone Cross'. and other possible compositions................
One of the best instrumentals ever, always loved this.

I have always loved this and feel sure that a small part of it is taken from Abide With Me
Made me cry in 1971 still makes me cry today.
That is FANTASTIC. It is no wonder so many want it played at their funeral.
Polydor record label, released in 1971, I still have the original, never tire of it, great track
I will have this played at my funeral: so beautiful, and I do believe I will come back to this earth....
Yes me too bro -still to be bettered . Take care X
It is already in documents that this will play, as I go down. As the few friends, I have enter it will be to the tune of Randon Harvest
Simple, stunning, simply stunning, even after 51 years

Sometimes, words alone are insufficient to explain something so beautiful ,so ethereal. Bless your soul, Phil. Bless your soul.

Fantastic !!!
One man made this song. His name was Phil Cordell. He was also known as Dan the Banjo Man.
So ahead of it's time.
Remember this being on Top of the Pops February 1972 slightly different video. Top 5 one hit wonder.
Unsere Zeit 📻 Danke Phil Cordell da Oben 👀

For the people who worked hard at their music and didn't always get the reward they deserved ...
