Am 43 and a year in and get to wear i dont know what or how to practice somedays i feel like Jimmy page and others i dont know what a guitar is.....any tips for a fellow bald fella
@@jimmybright1652 I sometimes get like that, one day I’ll pick it up and think what am I doing, other days wow where did that come from. I find when I’m relaxed things seem to flow a lot easier. Back when I started I was buying a guitar, and trying it out, the owner of the shop said to me, if you don’t relax you’ll never learn to play that guitar, and I’ve found that to be very true. So that’s the best tip I can offer you.
I have been going from one UA-cam lessons to another for 2 years it’s like trying to drink all the water coming over Niagara Falls Lately I have stuck to only your lessons and have learned more in 2 weeks than 2 years Thanks Ricky
I am almost 70, and have been trying to learn guitar for the last few years. Your instruction is some of the best, but would not recommend for a beginner. The theory to practically is fantastic. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
You have a great way of connecting ideas together. I've gained a better understanding of the fretboard from your videos over the last month than I've learned in 40 years of noodling.
Whatever reward you receive for sharing is well-earned. I've been playing finger-picking acoustic for fifty years for my own enjoyment. You just showed me some things that will be fun to add to my own playing. Everyone learns differently. And everyone learns different things. That's the beauty of it. Ricky, you almost doubtlessly couldn't play anything I play, but you've taught me some rules that will improve my own playing. Kudos.
I'm an older gray haired dude and I used to play when I was young but I had to give it up when tendonitis stopped me. I would say that I reached a descent level of play but never knew anything at all about all of this stuff. You changed that, because I was stalling out on my progress anyway. I love the you explain stuff because it's confusing at first but you make it all clear by the end. Thank you for all that knowledge.
RC, i’m a beginner and a slow learner & not super serious, but for a handful of years i click on various gtar youtube lessons and listen for a bit to see if i get what they’re teaching & how they’re teaching . Seen a-lot of different teachers & the light never came on. Then i came across you. Was surprised that i had never seen you bc i surfed you gtar lessons Alot . But Wow, what a difference in your approach. You a Soooo much more of a teacher than anyone ive seen !! You are really something special and we’re so lucky that you are a thinker and care to deliver. I can’t thank you enuff. I love your style & gracious humble persona . Your just fantastic . Sincerely , thank you!
I been out of work due to car wreck ..laid up...i have been learning guitar for 13months putting in around 5 hours a day...i starting watching u 2 weeks ago and learn more in two weeks then the year before ...u have a gift and i think u for giving some away ...when am able i will pay u back ..till then thank u so much and dont stop please of all the teachers on internet their are only a few good ones
Hey Jimmy. Thanks for watching my videos. I super appreciate you taking time to comment too! Man! Putting in the learning hours will do wonders. More videos on the way to feed the mind and fingers! Keep well buddy :)
I must admit that I am self taught having gleaned what I can from wherever. Even after years of playing Ricks approach and method has helped me develop and gain a better understanding of the applications of various theoretical concepts. This in turn has helped my playing improve ,diversify and rekindled my passion for the guitar in all forums. Thankyou very much indeed.
Ricky, I've just stumbled across your channel for the 1st time. Your explanations & perspectives are eye opening! Thank you for sharing these lessons ❤👍🏽👍🏻🎯.
These lessons never cease to amaze me. I understand how it's all connected, but hearing it in action still gives me goosebumps. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Hey Rollo! You’re very kind. I’m super pleased you’re getting the right information for you to progress with my videos. I see you’ve been watching them ALOT! haha. Keep practicing and I’ll keep sharing nuggets of info you need my friend :)
I’m an old grey haired dude, with guitar playing on my bucket list. I'm getting there and largely thanks to you and your nuggets of info. Gotta go, I’m off to practice my string pairs!
MIchael in Denver 🙂 Your methods are very helpful for serious players. I've played about nine years now and now want to play more different styles like afro pop , funk , metal and even blues.
Ricky, your teaching is amazing. You're parting with knowledge that other teachers want to keep secret... when it comes to sharing your knowledge, you're the Bruce Lee of guitar
I like your dedication, I particularly enjoyed your Cycke of thirds, that blew me away, as a guitar teacher myself I had never heard of that, but I am certainly using it now...thankyou for that.
Incredible right?! I'm loving it! Never saw the boot(what he calls trapezoid. R-P5) taking 3 steps up the fretboard until I saw this. Like that was always a blind spot I didn't know I had!!
Part-2: It's interesting how content from an instructor/mentor speaking in a UK accent makes the content seem more authentic!! Because of the unique linguistic "personalities" (for lack of a better word), it would be fun to see your content in Scottish, Irish, Cockney, and AU/NZ. (with subtitles of course!)
I have to really thankyou for all of this, I practiced it through while I watched each step. I find though I have to write notes on the PDF's for reference later. These are expanding my mind.
Another great lesson, your explanations of the relevance and application of theoretical knowledge and concepts are enlightening and highly educational. You are one of the best teachers Ive found online. A massive thankyou for your enthusiasm in sharing your understanding and helping people develop their own passion. Bravo!!!
Where is the rest of the video???? I was so interigued in this. I definitely understand the pentatonic all the way up and down the fretboard in any key and all of its subsequent postions. I just didt really think of the strings as pairs with such significant relationships. This is absolutely 🔥!
Part-2: Having said that i REALLY enjoy your content as much as JL, RS, and RB (first initials only because i don't want to redirect any viewers) My preference is for information that gives you the tools to create rather than emulate. My brain isn't wired for playing other artists music. As much as i would love to players some of my favorite songs, it isn't an option for me. However, i can remember and play songs i have written. Your content gives me the tools to FEEL music instead of MEMORIZING it. :)
Excellent teaching style. I bought the book and am currently walking through it. I see someone also asked this question about 6 months ago but didn't get an answer... The video abuptly ends at 24:09 with " Show you where the ". Is there another copy of the video that isn't cut off that we can use to finish the lesson? Thanks again for your work.
@@rickysguitar Hi Ricky! An update: been working hard over the past year learning the guitar, and this lesson still stands! Back then, this video was a great springboard to get me thinking about the linked patterns on the fretboard. I'm re-visiting it today as a recap & to allow me to nod sagely at all the things I have learnt. Cheers Ricky!! :)
My name is Dave and I’m a lessons collector. If it says ‘pentatonic’ on it, I buy it, download it, join, photocopy. I have more than enough lessons and licks around to last several lifetimes. I can’t help myself Ricky
Hey so i have been playing for like 20 years. Or at least i Thought I have and I probably could have made more progress than i have in that time. I mean i fairly proficient, but my sound is missing something and i have been dighing and digging for some lessons that fill in the gaps of the things ive missed out. I am now fluent in sheet music thanks to some of your videos. KEEP DOING THESE VIDEOS! They are great and very comprehensive! All of the knowledge, no nonsense. Thank you to to stars!
❤ this again, is such a simple concept and I know about theve octave voicings, but for some reason I never put this together like this! I am so happy I watched this. This really opens up my imagination . You speak truth, this is Gold!
You might want to have someone look into that buzzing when your hands are not on the strings it usually a ground problem you can check the ground wire on the spring claw you can put a second ground from ground on the pots to a screw inside cavity. If not could ground issues in building and thank for the excellent teaching
EYUp! I'm tring to finfd and copy the PDF you talk about. I'm watching this on 02/06/2022. Watched another of your goodies today 9:00 AM Pacific time . Looking forward to your book you spoke of 5:00 PM your time. Ricky, no BS, you've got the gift sir. I haven't been this excited about guitar since I bought my Beatles wig in the 60's and gave my Elvis record to my Neice. Hoping your book sells through Amazon. If not, I'll buy it antway. PS I'm 70 and hope to learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.PEACE!
Well, yes, most of all my skills and understandings I learned from your different look on the fretboard. in this and your other videos. Thanks for that!
Hey Ricky I was wondering if you could explain the meaning behind the seventh note. for instance a GbMajor7th how do you get to the seventh that is if I'm asking the right question.
Wow. So I see these triangles with the A minor Pentatonic (C major pentatonic) …The D minor pentatonic (F major pentatonic) is a different pattern BUT The SAME 3 triangles. Thank You! You have helped me in previous videos as well
The voices blend into each other as you go up the neck. If you think about it when you repeat a box pattern higher up the dusty end of the neck you kind of have more that 5 positions...

I started playing after my wife died and I'm 66. I wanted to play when I was eleven, but we were poor and I'm a leftie too.
Gray or bald? I’m confused

Yes, I like the idea of string pairs utilizing the highs and lows if the neck. Makes playing more versatile.

👀, from Quo to the Edge Great lesson Ricky, going to be mulling on that one .....thanks for that.
"All sizzle no steak" 🤣😂🤣🤣👊
Very good.thanks
Bought your book. Enjoying your lessons. Can these ideas be extended to 7 strings? PS have both 6 and 7 strings guitars.
Assuming your 7th string is tuned to B then yes. String 7 and 6 would be a perfect 4th apart!
Would be cool to add lesson on how string pairs, l patterns, note finding etc all are expanded with the 7th string. @@rickysguitar
