This is eloquently spoken. The message put into an actionable context the challenge of existing in a very painful and difficult time. There is a sword that Jesus brought which defines the holy and unholy world. "Don't be bitter" toward others even as they may be living in ways that we can't seem to reconcile. Acknowledge that we too are sometimes drawn into darkness and we need each other to pray for and support our own difficult journeys. Other times let our joy in the Lord be the light that may bring other to Christ. Thank you Father Mike, for helping me to think this out and learn that I can control the bitterness caused by the world's division. Very Holy advice!

This is so true for me right now. No one in my family is a faithful Catholic, some are even atheists, and I have zero Catholic friends. I am so lonely, every day fighting a battle against the skepticism and ridicule of those who are closest to me. The sadness of this fact can be soul-crushing and the temptation to bitterness is strong but I always remind myself that my war is against the principalities and powers that blind so many and not against other people. It is definitely a trial but I try to seek holiness through it.

Beautiful consideration - always be ready to forgive. We really do live in a divided world. It takes effort to achieve unity. Just watched this video and all I can do is cry and praise Jesus for sending us this priest. My heart was so heavy these weeks, as people who are part of my current state of life have been skeptical about my orthodoxy towards Church teachings. I was trying to hold on to the teachings and over the past days and even this morning, right before watching this video, I heard voices trying to convince me that I should be more loving and less rule-abiding and more accepting and welcoming. However, in the depths of my heart, I knew that this was wrong. And now, Fr. Mike has clearly stated what to do. And I am just so convinced that this is the Holy Spirit talking to us through Fr. Mike. My heart is on fire! Thank you, Fr. Mike, for all that you do for His beloved Bride, the Church. Thank you for your sufferings and sacrifices. God bless you!

I have a similar problem. My adult kids think I'm a racist homophobe. For them, anything goes and if it feels good, do it. Their world view comes from what their friends think or what they see on TV. They don't stop and contemplate why the Church teaches what they do. They don't read or go to Mass, no prayer or contemplation. It's so sad, that as a mother, you raise them to love God, and then they grow up and are then ashamed to speak up for Our Lord. I feel myself drifting away from them. When I am with my kids, I keep the conversation on what's going on with them or their friends. I don't talk about anything I am doing or things that I would love to talk about, which is my faith and spiritual things. Growing up, my children were always so respectful of me and listened to me. Now, I feel like I'm the child the way they sometimes talk to me. They are SO of the world, and it is really sad. I give this to Our Lord, pray my Rosary and try to live in God's presence, knowing that my relationship with Him is the most important thing in my life. Thank you Fr. Mike for this video, I'm now going to listen to it again!

My family is Baptist, and refused to let me pray with her and bless her with Holy Water. I eventually decided to pray with her regardless and my aunt deliberately kept trying to interrupt my prayer with my gran, and we were raised never to interrupt anyone even in mental prayer, so it really hurt, they don't think that I am worthy of the promises of Christ, and didn't want me to have one last prayer with my grandmother who was very devout in her faith, she taught me to know God. Forgiveness is so hard Father. I have tears running down my face just typing this. Thank you.

Well put farher! I’ve been thinking about this division a lot lately, and I have found what I think is the key to responding to people that are doing things we christians believe to be sinful. Look at Jesus meeting the adulterer, je knew she sinned, but he did not condemn her, he loved her still, but he condemned her sin and told her to be free of it. We should love people, but in this love remind them that what they do is wrong.

This hit me so much. I’m called to priesthood, I want to celebrate the Eucharist, confess, serve and this quote is right in point- but it doesn’t describe only my relationship with others but also inner me. I still have one year till I can join seminary and I’m struggling with some sort of feeling to a girl I know. I’ve already met with her once and we enjoyed ourselves. I feel like following my vocation will not only bring chaos between me and people not accepting it, but it will also begin a massive fight inside of me since I was born in sin and satan will try to drag me down. Please pray for me, Peace!
    Mike

Amen! Beautiful, good, & true with such compassionate lift one another up exhortation. Thank you. Yes, yes, yes let Grace take away bitterness. The pain of either open fleshly anger or passive aggressive being ignored or treated as a pariah, can lead easily lead to fleshly bitterness, but The Spirit gives power to Eucharistic people, to let non enabling charity & hope prevail. Always pray for more mutual understanding, and do anything one can for the other, without compromising against the authentic Gospel. Be very prudent yet assertive in 'planting seeds' of The Word for particular aspects of things the other holds in grave opposition to the Gospel. See them with eyes of the Light of Christ's Lamp, always hoping & seeking the best for them. And always be humble in repentance of one's own failings. Trust Providence with Holy Spirit guided patience, never giving up. Peace!

So very true. We can NEVER lose hope and we can NEVER stop praying for those who have fallen away from the Faith and the Church. We can continue to bring up the Catholic Faith in a loving manner. We in the end can only answer for our own actions in this life. THANK YOU for addressing this.

I know exactly what you're talking about, Father Mike! You are so helpful. My family has different feelings about Catholicism. My brother is probably an atheist but won't admit it because he knows it will bother me. Thanks for explaining this passage that's always confused me. You are an inspiration, Father. Bitterness and love are total opposites.

Wow, as a Catechist and oldest of our family, my mother is very narcissistic and my father will listen to everyone but me. The other religions that come to our door, just tell of the end of the world and how we are in the wrong religion, but they don 't speak of loving everyone for who they are. This is very frustrating, i just go to my room and cry and pray. I know that God sees my tears and knows my heart, so i continue to be who i am and know that i am in this world, but i am not of it. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed are Thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.

That is so true from the scripture. I'am an Asian living in Taiwan, inherited Chinese culture, familiar with Daoism and Buddhism. But once I sought nothing from these two ideas then turned to Jesus, I was being attacked by my family, and somehow I can feel another household unseen forces are bothering me as well.
