Wesley, availability on uncommon varieties really does have to do with where you live... I am here in the US, and it will be different in other countries. But even here where I am, sometimes new cultivars are in meager supply, and it just takes persistent effort to find what we are looking for.
On sun tolerance, my experience with A. chantinii has shown that they have some hardiness to unfiltered sunlight here in SW Florida. I have grown mine arboreally, so they do get some protection during the day, but they seem to be pretty resilient.
