Judge not lest ye be judged. Not everyone is playing with same deck of cards, my friend. The GOP (party of millionaires supporting the billionaires) have gotten it in the heads of the lower class and middle class that these people are “looking for handouts”. It’s more nuanced and complicated. And what about a living wage? In 1996 the average American minimum wage was $7.25. What it is today, 25+ years later? You guessed it, $7.25. The elite millionaire and billionaire class needs to start paying their share.
Sadly, all street marijuana is laced with fentanyl since around 2019. Just in this decade, millions will die in the US from overdose or poor health due to fentanyl and Tranq.
If I had to guess the country's been like this for the last 20 years. The cost of living is high the government keeps wasting money on a federal level It's not to say you can't have lousy local Federal governments know they're horrible too
Except if you’re trapped in rural. This is a fav California approach to new high rise low income apartments currently. They are also for no parking lots for the new construction of these type builds. That might be a great solution for home bounds that prefer isolation, or bicyclists. Think about riding a bus or bicycle to grocery shop. You can bring home what you can carry. Then there’s other services that need to be sought for maintenance of daily life. Idk. If its not majorly successful a key to that might be access to services.

The average Portland resident- “clean up these homeless camps!” The same people when one of these sites goes up anywhere near where they live-“not in my backyard!” Portlanders, compassionate when it’s convenient
So many neighbors around this site are nimby advocates, when the homeless need this site and many more to stay at so they have a stable address while looking for work... not camping on the street or in the bushes.
If you haven't been without a house before it's hard to understand that literally all you need or want at that point is a place with a roof, walls, a door that locks, and access to a bathroom. And there is no other options like that period. Outside the city be damned, as long as there's a bus line and I can get to a job, I'm good. Lots of people literally just need a few weeks and they are good, but being left out on the street, things can spin out of control fast, and they could end up stuck. Not saying this should be settled for if we are really trying to make progress. Some people on the streets will always need some amount of assistance due to mental illness, and disabilities. They should have a place to be that isn't jail, it's sick that they dont. They are just left to rot in squalor. But this shelter project is very good actually.

Introduce them to Christ so they can experience the love of Jesus and be healed from their demons weather emotionally mentally or spiritually❤ We a Christianity out of schools to Christianity pretty much out of everywhere We wonder why people are living on the streets. Thank God none of us wound up homeless. Praise Jesus that we're all doing pretty okay we're not rich but we're not homeless. I'm writing from another country. I've got three more years to pay off my student loans. Trauma doesn't have to destroy the rest of your life. We don't have to turn to drugs alcohol and promiscuous relationships. There's a reason Jesus says run from evil and temptation. A lot of times we don't always have a choice when we're kids but I guarantee you if you grab a hold of Jesus and you follow these principles your life can be turned around. The most unloving thing you can do for someone is not tell them when you see that they're living a dangerous life It's pretending that everything's okay when they desperately need freedom and deliverance❤❤ Religion can't save you only Jesus can. I wonder if any of these people objecting to this site recognize the fact that it is: 1) better than no site. and 2) how insanely difficult it is to find any site at all.
I guess we all will see if the county can keep up there end this time. Ted found a big enough spot where people won't have to do the shuffle. You can nit pick on where it is and how far away all you want. Quite frankly being away from businesses and homes is what people have been shouting for.
Right? It's like you can't win! Sounds like there will be transportation to the services they need and also some on-site. The group is already there in the area (camped on the street), but this connects them with a way forward.
@@EricaGamet That's a major question for me. It's good to see action but we have seen this before Ted tries to do something only to get stopped by the county. which brings me to my question will it be used as they say reaching out to the county, will they be directed here or is it just another shoulder shrug not my job situation.

The people in these shelters are going to roam around the area looking for ways to score. Crime in the surrounding neighborhoods will increase. That’s why virtue signaling NIMBYists don’t have these places in their own neighborhoods.
There should be no resistance to using this. You arrest those who refuse to move off the sidewalks and they either use sites like this or they get out of town. As far as the complaints-the homeless already live in filthy piles of trash as it is, shooting up next to buckets of feces....and people complain about a clean organized tiny home village. They dont even have to stop drinking and doing drugs to live here!. No expectations, no rules, no restrictions. Free electricity, water, a roof. And STILL people complain. This country is unbelievable..no wonder nothing ever gets done. We have a whole class of drug addicted alcoholics and mentally ill/drop outs who cannot get their lives together and when we make an effort to bring them some comfort it's STILL not enough for some people.
No matter where it is, there will always be some neighbors complaining. The previous County Chair said Wapato was too far out. Bybbee has worked out well. It looks really nice.

OMG!!!! What WTH do they want? Gold Paved Parking lot???? Looks to me it beats living under an overpass on I-5!!! They should be thankful that Mayor Wheeler and the city are taking the time, effort, and the money to make a place for them!
❤I think it is a great idea it is a area it is better t be away from residential gives them more privacy probably still can catch bus & access city we need more places like this it is good because they can take their RV with them
These people need Transportation particularly! Water? Heat? WiFi (necessary to connect with services and jobs as well as friends and family). It is no longer a luxury for the employed or comfortably retired, it is a necessity on the order of telephone only more so!). What is being provided? If any of these homeless want jobs, how will they get from this roof over their heads to that job? The small space looks larger than the tents I’ve seen, but, even though I’m an indoor loving person, the lack of seeing the outdoors and breathing fresh air would keep me in a funk.
That location and pods are a heck of a lot more compassionate than letting people fester in disgusting tents and unsafe dilapidated campers and RVs!
Last guy moved here from Colorado 9 years ago and still homeless. I don’t understand 9 years he looks like he is young enough to work . Unbelievable

why can't they do background checks to make sure they're not pedophiles more dangerous criminals
3:40 "you are being put out of sight, out of mind" Thats the primary reason the city chose that location
Recovery needs space away from families and businesses…. This is great..

A clean, safe, secure spot to land while you get your life together. For a lot of folks that's a blessing.

@@dianachase7867 Trapped in rural is very different than having access to a bus line. Millions of people grocery shop by bus everyday, what?
Will they let druggies and thieves live there ?

I think those pods would be a great asset to Beaverton . You know those caring rich liberals that voted for this also. Spread the pain out Democrats.
Wait, so a homeless guy moves up from Colorado to be homeless here? Importing homeless,. Glad this State is solving this issue 🙄

Exactly. Or the Pearl, Laurelhurst, Northwest, etc.
Are these to be drug and alcohol free zones? If not you just wasted a whole lot of time and money...
All shelters are like that, so it doesn't stop them from going back high or loaded as they aren't med clinic housing.
