My Dad’s funeral was yesterday. We used to watch you guys together and he would have loved this build. Thank you for these latest episodes 🥲
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear that mate
Look after yourself
Sorry for your loss mate
Sorry for the loss mate ❤
Ooof. Hope things start getting easier for you. Thats heavy. Make sure you talk to someone or get professional help if you are not coping well.
That cut to Darren after reading the letter got me good
Same here mate. 😢 So cool. 😎
Yeah man, actually made my day what a legendary move. Support a small business and make a new mate in the process!
The respect for just inviting people to help after seeing their shared interest in projects is top tier. Never stop
Reading your spoiler right before getting to enjoy it myself got me good
Can't explain why but that made my day I thought that was cool i had a big grin on my face!
I think it’s turbo Yoda making a comeback 👏👏👏
Definitely! He hasn't been on in quite a while.
Well he did a star wars tune, yoda being star wars 😅
We should the entrance music to the imperial march...
@@benvickridge so is Dose vader too...
Can’t wait to see what spice Yoda puts under the bonnet!!!
15:24 Oh, snap. Turbo Yoda is coming. That tape is comin' off to reveal an intercooler. 😍
He sung the imperial march - that's Vader's theme... It's gotta be Dose Vader aka Miles Stinton.
@@MozzieSquad It's AL, Marty said in a past episode that he will be working on the Gemini
Yoda coming in for a K-Swap
Exactly my thought! Heading to watch the next episode now 😁
Bringing in Darren is the best. What a resource and chill guy.
Love it! Also, what a chill legend Darren is, love people like that! The cut from you reading his letter to him just being there was hilarious haha.
I'm 58 this with the 240z is the best build you guys have done cheers boys
The 240Z had been my favorite project so far, but this is giving it a run for its money! No one does these in-depth dream builds like you guys.
agreed. i adore old styling. shoving new hardware underneath is fun. taking that old car faster and better than the factory ever thought possible.
agreed, they need to go for a cruise in both once the Gem is done. Bonus win if Al and some friends can bring the FB and the mini along for the full retro line up!
7:55 “Pan hard, Rod!” 😂 Gold!
everyones just here for the terrible (but original) dad jokes
All day m8, absolute legends
aaaaw yeah 🙂 This car is known here in The Netherlands as an Opel Kadett C. My granny used to drive a green metallic one, with riffles over the rear window.
Torana as well, people pay close to millions here for a good chassis. They don't realize its probably cheaper to import a Kadett from the UK and custom make the body parts that are different then sell it 250,000+ 🤣
loved the old kadetts. i was stationed in germany for a bit and saw several generations of em. from "Oliver" to this one to the more modern hatchbacks. i always liked their quirkiness. this may turn into the prettiest kadett cousin on the planet
in the Brazil this car is known as an Chevrolet Chevette...
Where abouts are people paying close to millions for a chassis? @@adamrandell7946
Really great little car especially when you sort it out with good parts.
You know it's good day when MCM drops a new episode of the Gemini project
totally agree
Right when I got home from work too!
Darren is a great fella! I bought some parts from him for my Gem … loving this build and keeping the Gemini legacy alive ❤
With the look of that suspension you guys really are the best 4WD channel out there.
Oh this thing is going to be unbelievable when complete. The attention to detail with the sound deadening was literally inspirational.
Good to see Darren. Used to chat with him on forums like Oz gemini for ages. Between him and Elky there's so many parts and info. Also quick trick, if you want negative camber or caster, swap the arms left to right. Cheap trick from the gemini race series.
Ahhhhh , I used to chat with Elky heaps, I even think my build thread might still be on ozgemini, for my td 4ze1 gt3082r coupe build, Incomplete of course , but I still have it here, and nearly running with the turbo :phahaha
Marty will have a smile from ear to ear when he'll drive this. Revamping your steering components from scratch, from nut to washer is one of the best things you can possibly for an old car. Even if it's just a revamp with same-same parts.
I had a 1972 Opel 1900 wagon which is the same platform car. That thing was so much fun to drive
Darren is a Legend
There are cars that are simple and just work. The Gemini is one of those cars and its great to see a build like this bringing a legendary car back to life.
hhmmm Turbo it will have! looking forward to seeing Alan back. Also brilliant that you guys are always showing a lot of support to Blue Collar Australians through your builds. Different specialty suppliers (consistent with the Brumby build) just sharing the love.
The Gemini axles are exactly the same as the 1972 GTR-UX1 Torana (fine spine edition). They cross fit perfectly (apart from the 4 stud and 5 stud configuration). The XU1's raced with 300+ hp so the axles will not be a problem.
Can’t remember a project I’ve been this invested in. Paint work looks mint 👌
Turbo Yoda is coming to fight the Empire... Nice beatz on this one, btw.
No. Someone else said it's "Dose Vadar" aka Miles Stinton.
@@The.Drunk-Koala Na it's AL
@@The.Drunk-Koala Maybe. We shall see.
Loving this build and restoration
Loving the build so far
Loving the regular content on both channels. Thankyou ✌️
Love how you guys are so keen to have people on the show for the ride
Cool 😎 My first car was a 1980 Gemini. Bought it 1981 for $4500. It definitely left some Gemini DNA in my bloodstream.
Turbo Yoda on his way to bolt a massive turbo onto that C20LET. Scotty get the pg up button ready!
Wait, Alan is getting involved??? Super excited!
that will be the only TURBO YODA , IT CAN'T BE ANYONE ELSE ,WHAT A BRILLIANT COLOUR AND KILLER PAINT JOB ❤ EPISODE 4 WOOHOO
Ahahahahahahah. Obviously you have forgot about Miles Stinton aka Dose Vadar.
Now remove your caps and kneel before me.
Ahh the old Gemini torque tube. I broke so many of them. My first car was a Gemini too Marty at the same time you had yours. I'm loving this.
I pushed about 180 hp through a Chevette(UK version) axle for just over 2 years, which lasted just over 2 years more than I thought it would😂😂before letting go during a semi hard launch, breaking the pinion gear clean off of the pinion shaft. My plan was to fit a Dolomite sprint axle when the original inevitably broke, but at the time I chose the easy route and used another Chevette axle I already had, needing it ready for a track day that weekend but that axle gave up almost immediately and the replacement for that exploded spectacularly on the weekend at about 50-60 mph simultaneously forcing or allowing the nearside rear wheel, brake drum and half shaft to make a bid for freedom 😊 I gave in after that and actually discovered that the Dolomite axle needed very little to adapt to the GM shell anyway,FFS!
Restored a Datsun Prairie few years ago, watching this build reminds me of the simplicity of everything and how easy it was to work on as an older car. No nonsense, or electric gubbins. Just basic mechanical parts which made it great fun to do. I love everything about this so far, great restoration/build.
Darren is a legend, I have bought plenty of stuff off him for my Gem over the years. True gentleman, and always happy to help…….. 👍
This has been the best MCM build of late. Love Geminis.
..and now this is my fave build, The colour dude ....ah Soo good, and go Darren, you rock!
That colour, those wheels, so nice. So nice.
1:00 onward. what brilliant editing right there. deadset perfection
Mad project... loving this one guys.
Oh I’m so excited to see what engine you guys pick.
Also that aftermarket sound deadener is an underrated game changer for the quality of your car.
My dad and I covered the inside of our old 80 series Cruiser with it and it’s a night and day difference.
If the manual rack is too much, you can always adapt a japanese electric motor for power assist.... like toyota.... im sure there is a way to adapt it. you can adapt anything if you put your mind to it. lmao.
I hope whatever engine you choose for this.... you use a cherry bomb vortex muffler. trust me please. it sounds so damn good. like really really good. quiet at idle but decent sound at full throttle. and then the tone is just, chef kiss. and it flows slightly more than typical glasspack mufflers too.
As we get older in finding more fascination with projects that revolve around memories or feelings over performance. Cars are getting faster and heavier and more digital and secluded. Thanks for keeping the spirit of hot rodding alive by building what you like. Not someone else everyone should be able to love what they do even if it doesn't make sense on paper.
Japan has all the good parts. The quality is amazing.
From one Darren to another Darren.. The next episode will be a riot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only two others I could think of.. Dennis or Thomas… but probs Darren he’s the closest aye
@@Dynamo_Industries I don't think I know the blokes you're talking about.. I think you may mean Dennis Mobbs?
Can't wait for Al
Idk that was the empire theme he was doing im thinking Dos Vader
@@JeffTurple he's retired from youtubing so he's gone to the dark side ... Hence why the Vader theme? Hehehe
@@zeeent5463 he shall now be known as Lord Turbo
@@JeffTurpleTurbo Yoda
Top colour. Also; because the Gemini was originally from Isuzu, they are Solid little cars! 😁👍👍
Turbo Yoda is gonna be back!
Turbo Yoda comes to the rescue and oil cooler on the outside to make it look epic and JDM AF. Greetings from AZ mates.
Dose Vader aka Miles.
Al doesn't do UA-cam anymore.
@@The.Drunk-Koala Correction, Al doesn't do UA-cam all the time anymore (What he said on Skid Factory).
Marty, my Opel GT has the same rear end with the torque tube/3rd link. My car was built as a very competitive autocross car about 20 years ago and has a rare ZF LSD. Iirc it has FB RX7 rear coils. The GT went goofy with the front end too and has a transverse leaf spring in the front subframe that connects to the lower control arms, but luckily Opel GT Source in the states makes custom lowering leafs.
Really enjoying the series so far. I remember watching the episode where you bought the Gemini and have been eagerly awaiting this build. There's always something special about these dream builds. Absolutely love the color and wheel combo. Looking forward to following the journey from here in the states.
Love those wheels! Want them on my Cube. Gemini is looking great.
It better be turbo yoda! Loving the build. Can’t believe I have to buy another poster. I only missed the first one ore two but have the rest in my office.
i remember watching the video of you guys picking up the gemini from japan. epic. i love seeing the project come together. your dedication is truly legendary!
Loving how consistently close these episodes are dropping! Absolutely epic not waiting weeks for the next episode.
Appreciate the honesty in your videos, it's rare these days
My Mum bought 2 Geminis from new ... she loved them !
Darren at Justgems is the man when chasing parts for gems 👌
It's going to be Turbo Yoda. yes a snail for the Gemini
It's going to be Dose Vadar.
He's the turbo yoda, but he is also expert in engine swaps. My bets are this car is going to be N.A
I had it wrong!
You guys are definitely smashing it going back to old styles and congrats on so many subscribers 🎉🎉 keep up the creative work guys 👍
Paint job looks amazing.
Looking forwards to seeing the rest of the build.
That cut was wholesome AF
Those wheels on the rx7 look sick!!!
The world's first and only $100,000+ Gemini! :)
For sound deadening, follow the rule of 75: Once you have covered 75% of a panel with sound deadening, you have removed 95% of the noise.
But in most cases, simply adding a small piece of deadening to any part which rings when you hit it, will resolve all your noise issues.
The only channel (well the best) for good vibes in the auto space.
Always great to watch at a troublesome time - to lift your spirits as you know there are MAAAD mates out there doing great fun stuff.
Thanks lads.
Love the way this one is coming together - ordered a poster after the last episode dropped, excited to get it! Cheers from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dose Vader and Turbo Yoda are inbound!!! Cracking episode lads. Keep it up
Fire car I can remember my mum having when I was young was a blue Gemini, so once I saw you were doing blue I had to grab a poster.
Always wanted a Gemini, especially a coupe. Was a passenger in many sporting P plates back in the day and many of those were also mates delivering 🍕
This is so satisfying to watch and a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Takes me straight back to the early days talking extractors, sway bars, 6x9”s Saas boss kits and late night slushees at the Baulko Circle K ❤
I'm getting "will this fit on my Honda" vibes from that lil teaser at the end. Both the "who" and the "what powerplant" vibes, but I guess we'll see next episode
My money is on C20XE
BEST SERIES YET BOYS!!!
I GIVE THIS THE MIGHTY CAR MODS THUMBS UP OF APPROVAL
Real cool of you guys to get the fella out from Perth to help you guys, loving the series so far 🤙🏼
Enjoying the lunch time uploads
Good on Darren for flying in from Perth, what a legend!
Wow STACKS of work and good progress, loving this one 👍
Loving the content. Keep up the great work guys. Appriciate all yout hard work and time.
Delivered in 40 seconds, hot and fresh!
Loving this project. I think it’s really satisfying watching an old car especially one you owned along time ago. Being able to go to town on restoring all the components and improving on the original car.
Awesome colour!! I assume with the bambambam that Turbo Yoda will make an appearance next episode? 😂
A proper build, the full works to make something you love. Well worth the wait!
Can't wait to see more progress on your Gemini Marty!
It's insane waiting years for this, and now getting new episodes regularly
I recall late gems in oz had rts - radial tuned suspension . May pay to copy the alignment etc. They handled great!
The torque tube is a design used by Opel on the Kadette and the Manta. The Manta A is the same width as the Gemini but is stronger . There are aftermarket steel torque tubes available. The front brake disks can be swapped for Audi 80 rear vented disks retaining the 246mm diameter but are 23mm wide vented . They just need to be re-drilled for the 4×96mm PCD of the disk mounting flange . Couple this with Opel Calibra/ Vectra (I'm sure there's an Aussie equivalent GM) brake calipers with carriers, these will bolt on and they're single pot , sliding fist design.
i fucking love this channel lol love how marty just got a few parts from a guy who turned out to be a fan and just brought him on to help so freakin cool
I always hit the like button at the start of the video (knowing that it's going to be good) and then get upset at the end of the video when I can't like it again haha
Yaaaaaay Al! Turbo yooooooda
I drove 19000km in my gemini back in 2015,it was the best car I've ever owned. Definetly split opinions but on the whole people loved it. It was metal flake blue with chrome pepper pot wheels and I lived it so much, miss that car. This series has bought back some great memories, thanks
Only 19,000 that's not much.
It Is when your from the depths of Wales in the UK. I do appreciate in ozzie standerds that might as well have been a trip to the shops though, place is massive
Damn, got me scratching at the imaginary bugs underneath my skin, asking “you got any more of that Gemini build series?!” Top work.
This is so awesome!!! Not only is it a really good looking car... It has that sentimental love written all over it. Thumbs up to Dominoes for sponsoring the whole thing too. I haven't ordered their pizza for quite some time... Yet, Dad ordered it all the time while I was growing up. I ate sooo so many entire medium pizzas in one sitting from the ages of 8-12. This car reminds me of dad... He had a blue Torino Cobra when he married my mom in 1969... It is just really special to see very pleasant and good feelings go into a lovely automobile.
short and sweet, Just Gemini's Darren is awesome for parts, but surprised you didn't mention the diff ratios of the diesel diff and the petrol 3.58 and 3.9 and how that may affect your engine combo and gearbox/trans.. upcoming episode perhaps
Japanese spec petrol diffs like Marty's still had 3.9 gears, even though they both use the same housing and axle setup. Only the diffs specifically fitted to diesel cars had 3.58.
Loving this build. I learned to drive in a the UK equivalent, a Vauxhall Chevette and it was fantastic to see one being retored to better than new.
MIGHTY CAR CHOPPED!!!❤😊
I did my licence test in a diesel manual gemini in 1982. It was a beauty and reverse parking was easy because of the motor being a diesel. Just idled it in. 😂 My wife's first car was also a Gemini and she loved that car in the 80's. Good stuff Marty.
Does anything feel just quite as handy and satisfying as using a sandblaster? Can't wait to see the finished product!
Not me just staring at how good the BBS-LM's look on the FD
comes out right as i was sitting down for lunch, perfect
NFL preseason is so boring, thanks for dropping this episode to save us 😅
Absolutely epic color
Gemini blue, perfect. This series has been excellent so far!!
