If just want an OS running to pretend not going radio silent, couldn't you just use a Winblows VM in linux occasionally and run scripts to simulate regular net traffic? Given that phones have 24/7 batteries and can't be disconnected easily (at least until the EU battery law is in effect for the next generation), I wouldn't risk having Apple products in the same room without a faraday cage. Android products, maybe due to them being so configurable, but Apple seems to spit on everybody but corpos when it comes to actual privacy.
