- Jib and I recently visited the Chakrabongse Vintage Antique Fair here in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the second year for the fair but was the first time for Jib and me to visit. Neither of us are antique collectors but are both interested in design, particularly Thai design so we thought this would be a fun way to spend a morning.

This palace is very close to the Grand Palace in Bangkok, which is actually where Jib studies Thai embroidery. The area surrounding the Grand Palace is beautiful, it has tree-lined streets and some of the most stunning classic Thai architecture.
The fair itself was rather small but the goods that were on display were, for the most part excellent. We had an excellent time at the antique fair and would certainly go back next year if they have it again.
We had hoped to also make it over to Bangkok Denim day, but that didn't work out as the times just didn't line up. Hopefully next time.
One of the things about the location of the fair that was really interesting was that the palace it was held in belongs to Thai-American singer Hugo, who is probably best known for his version of Jay Zs 99 problems. I don't think anyone actually lives in this palace today, but it is a beautiful location, and I guess an interesting little fact about it to share.

So cool that you literally were in one of these palaces for this antique show. I know who Hugo is, his version of 99 problems is cool. His music is sort of bluegrass rocks like. very different I had no idea he was Thai, and related to the royal family no less. So cool.
Yeah his music is unique, I dig it. The palace was cool, but we didn't get to go inside, maybe next year.

Wow ! one of the most interesting and coolest videos l have seen in Bangkok. Some of the fabrics and antique pieces were stunning, the embroidery purse caught my eye, very beautiful. The market set in those beautiful house gardens seemed to have a nice calm atmosphere about it and the free drink looked great too. Here In the UK, Vintage means any article over 25 years old but less than 100, Antique is things over 100 years old, Retro is something new but designed to look old, l guess meanings differ the wold over........:-)

the sword you seen i believe it was a Krabi Krabong
Krabi Krabong is the martial art of Thai sword, in that martial art they use a few different weapons. The sword itself is called a Daab, there is a staff that has a blade on the end called a Ngaw, a bad ass knife called a meed, They have these forearm shields called Mai Sok, and a wooden staff called a Krabong.

Haha that could be awesome. This was my first time really going to any type of antique fair. It was a ton of fun tho, but the location really helped for that as well, and the weather was amazing, nice and cool.
There are some great desert shops near the Grand Palace. should def check it out.
Jib is in that area every day, so she brings home deserts all the time. lol

Hey Jacka, welcome to Thailand, I hope your ASQ isn't too bad and thank you for subscribing. Yes we have to wear masks outside now, you pretty much have to wear a mask everywhere. When I said I slipped in before restrictions were in place I was referring to our second wave of cases. a few days after this fair the government announced a new round of restrictions and this fair would not have been able to open.
