- The Call of the Ocean is a documentary film about Tapio Lehtinen, who took part in the extremely challenging Golden Globe Race in 2018-19, and became one of the sport’s legends with his performance. The race is sailed alone around the globe with boats representing the technology of 1968, without stops, refuelling, or physical human contact. Lehtinen completed the 30,0000 nautical mile voyage in 322 days, which elevated him to the ranks of international sports legends. Lehtinen is the sixth person in the world to have circumnavigated the globe via Cape Horn singlehanded, without stopping, navigating only with a sextant.

The best thing I heard from him was " I didn't find any demons in my mind or have to save my soul" . How many would be able to say that after a year alone at sea? A strong heart, stout character, and indomitable spirit.

Great video! Whoever sails around the globe like that is a hero in my eyes. ( having sailed thousands of nm myself) it’s tough environment to do single handedly the longer you take the harder it actually gets. My hero of this particular race is Mark Slats, who had little help and accomplish a second position.. insane how these projects are organised. Very beautiful pictures of what I call home..
