I agree with the Christmas Story but for unique reasons...the annual TBS marathon on Xmas, while hiding from the ex in-law’s family’s, it was on and was like the background to my lonely sad holidays. I’m clear of that now and haven’t watched in years👍🏻

Despite the hype, I’ve never been able to sit through A Christmas Story. It’s just never held my attention. But I’m glad there are people who love it! But being a Grand Rapids woman, I *have* to love Polar Express. Seeing my home city somewhat represented on screen was just...it hits a sweet spot in my nostalgic heart!
Maybe that's a key to it. I saw it when I was a kid and there was no hype around it for me, just a tradition so it never felt like I had to watch it to "get it."
So... amazing that Craig brought up The Polar Express. Earlier tonight I watched Wheezy Waiter's video of him and his wife watching a Christmas movie every night from the past 25 years and upon watching The Polar Express they really didn't like it. I turned to my partner and told him that I saw about 25-30 minutes of that movie in theatres with a friend and we had to leave because I ended up getting sick from a medication I had taken beforehand (I threw up in a garbage can outside, lovely.) But just from that half-hour I thought it was so freakin weird (and slow? It was so long ago) and I really didn't feel bad for missing the rest. On the other hand, A Christmas Story is a classic. Yes, I did grow up with it and it's a movie my whole family enjoyed watching together. I think we all love the time period, the leg lamp, the bunny onesie, the furnace.... there are so many good moments! I think my Dad relates to the furnace from when he was a kid in the 50s. 😂 I personally do not enjoy Elf. The stop motion characters and Buddy's journey to/arrival in NYC is great, but as soon as Zoey Deschanel comes in I'm out. Looking forward to the live stream tomorrow! Sorry all my comments are super long.

I'm actually in the same boat with you on Elf. I watch it for Kylie. We have decorations that I don't mind. We quote parts of it, but I wouldn't be not happy if I never watched it again.

The Polar Express is a 3-D movie. I saw it in an I-Max theater the first time. It was beautiful and it looked like it was snowing on us. Much different than watching it on tv.

For me it's a nostalgia thing. The final shot of the mom and dad sitting with just the tree on and it snowing outside is the idyllic Christmas I've created in my mind. And how can you not love the lamp!? It's a MAJOR AWARD!
