  • How to connect a Balun and DC plugs to CAT5 or CAT 6 cables for CCTV cameras that have coax BNC connections, when you want to use Ethernet cable for convenience or for very long runs, CAT5 or CAT 6 is less expensive than coax for long runs, make sure you use external duct grade cable when using outside. BALUN is short for balanced to unbalanced transformer. Cable runs can be 300 or 400 metres for HD/5MP cameras, while the power can usually go about 50 metres without issues. You can increase the voltage of the power supply to ensure 12v DC at the camera, then the power can also go a lot further. Using the three spare pairs for the voltage can increase the distance the power will go, (three cores for +, three for -). Make sure you are using high quality baluns, we always use the 8MP version. We uploaded this HD version as the original was too low in quality.

QUESTION: a CAT cable had three pairs of wires. Can I simply use a single ethernet cable and baluns to connect *three individual cameras* ? Or is that silly and won't work due to interference of the signals inside the ethernet cable? Many thanks for the answer.

Sorry, that's outside the scope of this video. I suggest you use a certified installer for your camera system if you are unsure.
