This was such a good conversation. A lot of Christians aren't reading the bible they are just taking someone else's interpretation and understanding and running with it. I wish some of them would stop acting like they're interviewing to be the bouncer outside of heaven.
I wish people would stop trying to push their Christian beliefs on Kev & Angel!!! They've made it clear that complaining about the way they choose to live isn't going to change their faith!!! If you don't like, stop following them!!!! We needed this podcast today!!! Especially the music break!!! RIP Quincy Jones 🙏🏾
@@hismom5600you Christians definitely push you beliefs onto others. Following your religion it’s right or wrong. Like damn give ppl a choice to live how they please
I love this conversation. It is always healthy to examine your beliefs and find where they are rooted. The fact of the matter is we ALL have been endotrinated in every facet of society...church, school, health, system, ect
This is facts, the reality is we are culturally condition, influenced by our internal and external societal norms, survival and acceptance. Everything can have its beauty, joy and hope but there are other that will use any aspect within our lives to benefit themselves or or particular group. Good thing is that these discussions, show that some of us have grown. #WeMove🙌
As someone who didn’t grow up in the church, it is sooo interesting to hear about yalls experiences and how it’s influenced you. I hope you enjoyed your drink and continue to do so in the future 🥂
Y’all affirmed me so hard with the first topic 😭 I feel like an outlier in my Apostolic Christian family and it can be overwhelming but seeing you successful and happy in God encourages me to continue understanding who God is to me as a happily queer black heathen
Kev and Angel, this segment blessed my life. I was trying to live a "perfect" life according to my belief of what a good Christian should be, it led me to depression. Praise God He got me out of that! I challenged things i believed and some were false because I wanted to appear holy like the Pharisees and it was not truly who God made me to be... So ya'll are speaking truth and I appreciate ya'll!
This episode really touched me. As a fellow church kid turned margarita drinker, I just wanted to leap through my screen and hug you both multiple times throughout this episodee. Thanks for keeping it real.
I feel like we all had the same childhood. I'm grateful for the basic knowledge I received that has carried me through life. However, I'm glad I matured as a Christian and learned how to enjoy life with no condemnation.
This kind of episode was needed for TODAY!!!!!! I don't know if you all planned it this way, but excellent job! Thank you! Definitely cheered me up🥴😩🥰❤️🙏🏼
Both of my grandfathers were pastors and had churches but I only grew up under one because the other died before I was born. I also had a favorite Heathen cousin that was glued to me at the hip, our names even rhymed. When I say EVERYTIME y’all say ‘Back Pew’, it takes me right back to childhood when me and her would be on the back pew and she would be ACTING A FOOL!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I used to be in trouble a large percentage of my childhood because of her!…… #GoodTimes 😎💜
As someone who's been traumatized by Christianity, Kevin got very sound advice. If more churches approached Christianity in the way Kevin was advised to (with context and completion) , it would be more of a safe space for people to be.
The conversation in this episode really healed something in me as a church kid who has been perceived as a “heathen” because I wanted to challenge my belief system. I am so grateful for Kev and Angel being able to put that into words. “We” are acting as the people in the Bible that Jesus spoke about.
I went to the reunion tour and had a beer and margarita....I paid for them floor seats in front of the stage, bought an outfit, paid parking, and gas the lord know I worked hard for every sip as I sang my behind off so bye..Kev don't sweat it
I really appreciate you all being so transparent about your personal religious development. I experienced a lot of the same and had to relearn how to be a Christian in the spirit that Jesus intended, with love and acceptance of myself and others.
I grew up( still am) in the Nation of Islam. I can def empathize with y’all as far as the pressure you put on yourself to be (appear) righteous. I’ve grown to give myself grace for my shortfalls of the law of God. And continue to strive to do good works and clean myself up over time.
This might be one of my favorite discussions from y'all. I grew up Muslim until I was 7yrs, from a mother that grew up in the church. She told me to choose my own belief. I've been learning and challenging many different teachings ever since. I see plenty good and plenty bad from various minds and books. It's important to understand the roots of teachings. For what I believe in shapes how I interact with others and put out content. My partner (we are da gay lol), who grew up in the church, has a mom that preaches. But she also challenges what doesnt make sense while teaching me things I never grew up with. All that's to say, a true open mind can learn, understand and respect others decisions and still walk in their belief. But if you dont understand or feel some type of way, challenge your thinking to see why it is. I think that's closer to being Christ like. Be well, peace & blessings. 💙🤙🏾🦉
This is by far my Favorite episode! As someone who grew up in a strict Muslim community, this conversation is truly important & beautiful! You both spoke facts!
Sin doesn’t evolve though. No, Im not saying drinking is sinful being drunk is. There are also some other things people do that don’t fit in this category!
He brought up parents drinking at Disney on Ice & let me tell yall! I definitely needed a drink when I took my child 😂 she had a blast & I was so stressed by the end of it all 💀
I so enjoy you all! My brother and I were literally back pew kids. Our parents were 'functional alcoholics', they had the most turned up parties on Friday and Saturday nights and thumped us on the church bus on Sunday mornings! Talk about growing up CONFLICTED AND CONFUSED!!! The church members never asked or knew where our parents where.
Not to G-d there is. Sin is sin. Tho I donot believe that it is a sin to have alcohol, the sin is being drunk. let’s not measure sin by our own understanding. According to the Lord it is all the same.
Quincy Jones’ Secret Garden song was so well done! Seamless chemistry between all of the artists, it felt like everyone’s song, not like a bunch of artists together. So good!
I don't drink due to aligning with what God wants me to do. I wasn't an alcoholic but I just wanted to be clear and sober minded. Now when people come to my house they are free to drink with no convictions. I have liquor in my house.
The Bible speaks to walking in the counsel of the ungodly however, it also encourages us to help those who do wrong. Life should not change your beliefs. The Bible is our way to understanding Christ and faith is believing in his word and not leaning on our own understanding
The Expectation To Be Perfect Is What It is & When You Finally Let It Go..They Get Mad .But You Feel So Much Better Don't Ask Me How I Know..Cause I Know
Honestly I’m glad there’s technology now to see how narrow the path truly is. We can call ourselves Christians all day long but by their fruits you will know them. “God knows my heart.” But does He know you? I pray not just Kev and Angel but other Christians really seek first the Kingdom of God. We have to hold ourselves accountable
Well this has been THEE nostalgic episode! The 'Tomorrow' of it all (performed that with my class at the school Spring Festival of '90), Limewire/Kazaa/Bearshare (set the home PC ablaze summer of '98), 'Ask Jeeves' (I loved that cute butler icon, Google who?), 'Mavis Beacon' (Office Procedures class '96-'98), no 'Blockbuster' on the islands, but we did have 'Super Video' and 'Juggies Video' for the good ole rentals back in the 80s/90s'/00s. Good times!📼💿🖥💽
Loving Churchy, you Kev!! Drank that cuz Jesus turned water into wine and let it flow. Love this Unruly Cousins pod!!!❤❤❤ We all have to work on our relationship with the Lord,Kev said it,Amen.
I've always felt this way about having a drink. It's a drink, like soda or tea or everything else. It's what you make it. Occasionally (maybe once a month) I have a glass of wine on my porch with my husband. It's our in house date night. Then we go to bed. That's it. No harm, no fight, the kids are sleep. It's just something we do. As long as it stays that, I don't feel otherwise convicted.
I just talked about the Christian bubble and how there is such a small square of communal sameness and pressure and shaming. Exposure to others is really important.
I purposely missed the live so I could have this as a pick me up today just in case
you and me both babe 🤝🏾
Same!😢
That's a great way to look at it. I was bummed I missed it again. Thank you for the positive perspective.❤

This was so optimistic “if you keep living living you don’t know what you might do!” Cmon somebody
God KNEW we'd need an almost TWO HOUR HTT today! 😩😢
THANK YOU JESUS 🙌🏾🙏🏾 & Kev 🎬 Angel 👼🏾 & Josh📸/"Spanish Guy" 🇲🇽🕺🏻
Facts!😂 I needed this today!
As a church kid, I been watching Kev since I was like 14 (i’m 24 now). The way he’s still keeps God first is dope very inspiring!
He’s gotten lukewarm but he’s very entertaining.
You can’t keep God first but live like the world 🙏🏽
@@Destrey34 You heard NOTHING of what they said. I h&te that for you. Smh

Push beliefs or suggest a standard? Truth doesn't automatically equal hating or control.

As a kid who was fasting in high school like Angel 🙌🏾😂😂😂 I'm so glad so many of us are lightening up as we age. Life is for living!
This convo right here... Convo right here... THIS is why I rock with y'all! 👏🏾👏🏾 Really appreciate this talk (not being preached to, but spoken to).

Thank ya’ll for this episode we needed this pick me up or something to put our mind on something different.
This conversation was beautiful and incredible. Thank you for sharing

That Quincy documentary is my favorite documentary of all time. So well produced! I'm a big documentary lover and it's really one of the best ever.
This episode is why I started following kev 5 years ago… Angel came and they made the perfect match. Talking that talk!! 🔥🔥🔥
The song “Tomorrow” makes me weep like a baby every time I heard it! Those babies sung to my soul! 😢

We don’t need to approach Christianity according to “KEV”
We need to approach Christianity through God and His Word
@Destrey34 I don't need to approach it all, but thanks for the input
Y’all don’t even understand how much I needed to just laugh at stuff today. Thank you! 🩷

Religion vs Relationship. Great and insightful conversation. Tfs
