    Kim - I left a comment on a previous video that I couldn’t wait to try your methods NEXT year, and you encouraged me to do it now. Well, I only have one grow light but I set it up with some pepper seeds out in my garage and I’m pleased to say I saw a few of them coming up today! Thank you for telling me not to wait. ☺️

      Kelli, you go girl!
      I've been growing my garden for years. I wanted organic and fresh. It began small...peppers and tomatoes. Each year since I started, I was able to use the money I saved by growing my own, to expand the garden! Once you eat fresh from the garden, you'll never go back to store bought. Keep up the good work and stay tuned in with Kim. She won't let you down. It is as easy, fun and inexpensive as she makes it look!

    yep. seed raising is one of the best investments to make, to have ready plants for season or for continuous rapid additional planting, for much better crops and multiple successive crops from early spring thru autumn plantings.
    starting seeds directly in the garden is failure prone and wastes time.
    i invested in a heat mat, proper trays, a grow light and professional grade seed raising mix, as well as using a water soluble 20-20-20 fertilizer that is also used for all growth stages. my setup is in my garden shed and is churning out plenty of seedlings for planting out.

    I didn't have a lot of luck cutting the plastic lid for my grow box project, but instead used 3/4" pvc pipe with tees and elbow to make a support framework for the grow lights. No gluing, just dry fitting the connections so I could change the dimensions if needed.

    I planted some seeds in peet pellets on Tuesday night. Now, I'm trying to figure out what next. I think when my plants sprout, I can put them in the bathroom. There are 2 fluorescent bulbs rated 5000 k. Does that work without buying a separate grow light? My bathroom is also a warmer room when the heat actually kicks on, but I think it's done for the year. I live in NYC and don't have a balcony or anything. I just decided I wanted to grow some veggies to lower my food bills. I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but the grocery stores running out of a lot of things is what pushed me to do it now instead of continuing to think about it and watch some videos. I actually had already watched some of your videos. That's how I knew to get the peet pellets for my seeds.

    Appreciate everything you are doing here! I have just started getting into gardening and this might be a dumb question. In the video, do you water the plants right after fertilizing or we are fertilizing and watering at the same time? Secondly, do you have to make the fertilizing mixture every week, or we can reuse the 1 gallon can every week? Thanks a lot!

  • @MindfulLivingA

    Hi CaliKim just wondering if you have an organic soil with fertilizer already in the soil, do you still need to fertilize again when the true leaves grow? My soil says feeds for 3 months on the package. Any advice is much appreciated! Love your videos 🤗

    Hi Kim.. I am using Jiffy hex seeding kit and jiffy seeding start mix for growing seeds. I am doing bottom watering. somehow all pods are not pulling the water up so some appear black and some stay brown all the time. One mistake i think i did is not thoroughly watering the starting mix before adding it pods. But i did it after adding it just on the top. could you let me know why is it not self watering with bottom water?and how can i fix that issue?

    I am having issues with my tomato seedlings using this product. I had been seeing blotchyness on the leaves of my tomato plants. I just realized that it happens right after I fertilize them. My last batch got burned pretty badly. Used 1 tsp good dirt plant food(back of bottle says 1 pump=1 tsp) and 2 cap fulls of vermisterra worm tea to 1 gallon of water. Bottom watered for 15 min. Defective product? Would it be Vermisterra or GoodDirt burning them? I had one set of tomatoes that did not get fertilized because they didn't need water yet at the time I was fertilizing, and they are the only ones that are not burned.

    Hi, love your channel! Question - do I need to fertilize my seeds regardless if I am using a seed starting mix or a potting mix? I am not sure if the seed starting mix would already have nutrients the seeds need. Pls help!

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  4 роки тому +2

      Hello Leah - wonderful job getting seeds started! Check on the soil package to see if fertilizer is included. If so, you can wait a few weeks after germination, or when the plant is 2-3 inches tall, with 2-3 sets of true leaves before fertilizing with liquid fertilizer. One reason I like Vermisterra Worm Tea so much is that it is so gentle, provides slow and steady broth and doesn't burn your plants. Let me know how things go with your spring garden!

    Question for you: I started my tomatoes and cucumbers February 1st and they all came up within a few days. I've had them under grow lights and for the last week or so I've been taking them outside during the day and bringing them inside at night. The plants are all looking great and are getting pretty big. I'm worried that the cucumbers are getting TOO big and are going to need to get in the ground soon. I have potted them all up into 3.5 inch pots, but I can't see that they'll be able to stay in those pots much longer. I'm in Westminster, CA -- the highs have been mostly in the 60s during the day, but down to the high 40s, low 50s. What is your opinion about leaving them outside overnight now?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  4 роки тому

      Hello Mary Ann, great job getting your seeds started! It's exciting to see them grow and thrive. 40's are a little chilly to leave them outside at night, 50's is better, 60's is perfect! You could leaving them outside with cover at night, (such as a storage tub), remove during the day. I"d test it with one or two plants, if those do OK, it's a good sign that the others will do well too! It should warm up enough in a month or so here in So Cal. Happy Gardening!

      @@CaliKim29 Thanks, Kim. I definitely started them a little too early. I didn't expect them to come up so quickly and to grow so well! They are all really gorgeous plants. Nice dark green and the cucumbers are all now getting their 4th true leaf!
