My experience says that partial shade gives more turmeric but the corm is weak to be planted in the next season. Thank you so much for uploading a complete guide from planting to harvest, it requires a lot of patience.
I'm so glad I found this video by you! I moved to SoCal last year and will be growing turmeric and ginger now for the first time. Do you find that the underground critters like to eat the turmeric roots and rhyzomes? We have a ton of gophers, moles and voles in the garden. I would prefer to grow in ground but don't want them eaten. Thanks! :)
Awesome.. amazing video yet again.. you may want to try haldicha lonacha, it's absolutely delicious.. you just need lonache masala, probably you can get kepra masale in usa? Grate young turmeric, add this masala, squeeze lemon add salt, you can refrigerate the pickle but it taste absolutely awesome.. and very healthy too..
have you thrown away all the leaves?? the leaves are one of the reasons i grow turmeric. use them to wrap you veggies or meat or fish for steaming. they are amazing . also, the leaves can be used in curry to give a nice flavour
It's spelled with an R which should be pronounced. The too-mer-ic pronunciation came about as a result of a commerial mishap in which the product was accidentally misspelled without the R. Very good video. I appreciate the thorough instructions.
Currently growing turmeric now and would like to know when to harvest? When the plant is at a certain height? My plants are now about one foot high. Thank you for the great video.
Great Videos. Very informative and no extra nonsense. Question, turmeric has such pretty flowers, can you wait until it blooms to harvest, or better yet after the flowers have gone. thanks for your reply in advance.
Thanks for your video. I have 4 20 cm plant in a pot. We are in Autumn now and will roll into Winter soon. How should I look after these young plants to survive into Summer which is in December. Should I take the pot into under carport?
It looks like ginger. Are they from the same family or is one a hybrid of the other? Either way I have to let you know how much I both appreciate and enjoy your vedios. Your demonstrations as well as your explanations are easy to follow. Your very encouraging and your vedios are always worth a thumbs up 👍. Honestly your more helpful than you know💕. I follow you and one other amazing gardener and both of you are timely blessings.
I love your videos and your beautiful garden! Do you think that I can grow avocados and other plants in Central Portugal? If you know anything about it I would be very happy to get your advice! Thank you!
When is the best time to harvest? How do I know when to dig it up? My turmeric plant has flower(s?) and the plant is tall. The leaves have not died back.
I love you organic gardening videos, but I would suggest that you de-plastic your garden, because over time plastics breaks and release little " micro-plastics", so please consider the fact.Just to give some tips, I use old stainless-steel containers(which looks pretty to) wooden containers, gunny bags(which would compost eventually after use) and terracotta pots. Thank you.
We live in Eastern zone 7, It iş still frost here, Thanks for uploading this information , A word of caution : Do not eat turmeric everyday, Ad it has strong drug effect Excessive can damage liver. Shukryia and dhanywaad for sharing your experience, please help your local farming networks too.with tips and nuisance
I have been trying to grow turmeric in pots in my house, so far nothing as cone up. Any suggestions, maybe it not hot enough or maybe I’m not watering enough.
Kiran S boiling is harsh it may kill many of vitamins/benefits of turmeric. Although cooking fresh turmeric in your food is a good. You can grate fresh turmeric into sauces with a little black pepper to increase benefits and even blend fresh raw turmeric into smoothies is great.
California Gardening there is some b6 in turmeric but cant find any articles online about b12. As far as I know you get b12 mainly from meats or in liquid supplements

You can plant the tubers in spring (end of March) but most likely they will start growing in May/June, which is OK

Beneficial...not so sure. But the powder will not be a bright yellow like it should be.

Should the leaves dry to harvest turmeric
When is the right time to harvest turmeric
Turmeric rhizomes should be boiled for half hour and then should be cut and sundried. Boiling help remove all the dirt and insects in the rhizomes.
Thanks for the tips. After washing if the vegetable like turmeric or carrots contains dirt I usually eat it for my Vit B12 uptake!

Vitamin B12 is found in dirt (soil), so eating freshly uprooted carrots for example is a good way to get your Vit B12
