- Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, South and Tanzania at one time were using the same national anthem, Nkosi sikelel iAfrica by Enoch Sontongo, this is a critical part of South African history and the history of national anthems on the African continent.
The national anthems were sung during the independence of Tanganyika now modern day tanzania, and Kenneth Kaunda's Zambia independence, as well as namibia independence day celebrations, and Nelson Mandela independence of South Africa, Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrica is one of the best national anthems on the African continent.

As an American this anthem brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it, and I haven't been the same since. It has an indescribable power that fills me with sadness, defiance and pride all at the same time. It's one of the reasons why visiting South Africa is VERY HIGH on my list of important things to do.
Word up get yourself over here bro, you'll like it
@@therealfootballanalystftb6687 Trust me, y'all be seeing me sooner than later!
When you do, visit places outside of the popular tourist places. Arrive at O.R Tambo, find locals to show you around how they live every day. In the different provinces, watch the PSL soccer cricket and rugby games. Then you'll feel the unity that is being South African.
The greatest song in Africa.
We sang this hymn in my school choir in 1993 in an Afrikaans school in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It was the original isiXhosa version sang with a white accent!
Nice, I sang the Shona translation of it in primary school as well
I really appreciate this presentation, because I was trying to listen to every national anthem in the world and had grown very confused when I came to southern Africa! Several anthems sounded slightly different, yet remarkably alike. Now I know my eardrums are not melting! Fortunately this is a beautiful melody, with supportive, concordant harmonies.
Wow, glad the video cleared that for you, thanks for the feedback
@@ZimTechGuy I thank you for the effort in creating such an informative video. It means a lot to me to have accurate, relevant information on the Internet!
I just love how our pan African leaders loved one another. I'm so proud of the father of my nation Julius Nyerere for the love he had for Africa. He loved Africa more than anything. He could not have peace untill the whole of Africa was liberated. Thats why the western media never portrayed him as a hero !!🙄 Todays youth knows nothing about Keneth Kaunda, Mugabe, Samora Machel, Kwame Nkrumah etc...Much love from Tanzania🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿❤❤
Let's stand for our beautiful Africa
Mugabe was a devil
I love you, man, I'm Zimbabwean and I love your love for Africa, I loved Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere....long live Africa
Nyerere had pure heart and true son of the soil,,but sadly we Africans never appreciates our own heroes,,much love from Tanzania
Mungu ibariki AFRIKA na watu 🇹🇿 wake
This anthem symbolises all that is best in Africa.
I remember in school when we changed from the old to new national anthem. This is very enlightening. Thank you.
Same
I actually think this is really beautiful, we need this kind of solidarity in Africa.
Thanks for the video brother
Brothers for love, I love my Africa, Let us unite and support each other. Love from Namibia.
The Zimbabwean new national anthem is actually called Ngaikomborerwe Nyika NyeZimbabwe,It's a popular mistake to call it Simudzai Mureza after the first lyric
The first title is a translation of Nkosi sikelela iAfrica, not original. Simudzai Mureza is a better title.
@@Bourne-fu8bz That's a fair assessment even accurate but unofficial
I love your videos. It saddens me that I'm learning the proper history of my ancestral home via you tube. But better than remaining ignorant! Tatenda
Thanks, we’re all learning
@@ZimTechGuy I think it is great. I finished high school in 1995 in South Africa and dropped history at the end of grade 9. I had to educate myself about the true history of South Africa and its neighbours. I have Zimbabwean colleagues and really love learning more about their country's history and culture.
Interesting stuff. I'd like to see a channel like this one for every culture.
The Namibian anthem is different, but SWAPO, its liberation struggle movement has same anthem as those listed above
In case Africa would ever unite to be a country, then that would be the best fit for a national anthem
If Africa UNIT the world will have to turn to us for the resources we hve. They might the oil.but we hve the resources
South African anthem will be the anthem except the South Afrika
I love your voice to the max ❤
He was born in the Eastern Cape Province (post 1994) or Cape Colony ( pre 1994). 😊
Very informative. Thank you
1st class...thanks for sharing
I'm enjoying your songs and I need more
God bless Africa , the title speaks for itself .
Thank you for sharing, it have facts,
Thanks for sharing, thanks for the education
That's why we sound the same,South Africa and ZAMBIA 🇿🇲 we just have the same National Anthem but different language
Similar not the same
Year - South Africa, Tanzania
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION
Yeah! We still use it in Tanzania.
“Mungu ibariki Afrika”
I miss Ishe Komborera Africa but I love ❤ our new Zimbabwe national anthem.
So let's appreciate Tanzania 🇹🇿
Excellent Vlog. I think 🤔 the African Union National Anthem should be played ▶️ everytime 🤔 the close 🤔 a meeting 🤔. And all 55 African Countries too...
I love 💕 these athem
I remember there being a vocal tug of war when singing the Zimbabwean national anthen during junior high school at Elite High School. It's sad when a song meant to unify brings division
Ahh Elite High School

@@ZimTechGuy I'm doing alright thanks and how about you Mr Maston?
Every May at St Ignatius College during Africa month that's the national anthem sung,it's a rivetting hymn
South Africa anthem especially first stanza rythm was a direct copy of Tanzania anthem
😂😂How coz the writer is south african
Come on broer. Go do your research tu. You know you can't change history. Please hle.
The anthem was composed by a south African & others adopted it that's a fact 😊
I'm enjoying your songs
The Leading party (SWAPO of Namibia) still using Nkosi Sikeleli Africa as the party Anthem. If we ever have an African Anthem, this will be a befitting tune.
Not true,Alert Namibia to win freedom was and is still used by Swapo
Great video!
Nkosi sikela i AFRICA.
I hate the new anthem in Zimbabwe, I only sang the old anthem in 93 and 94 at school I was grade 1 and still remember it. I love it. It's got more depth.....
Listen to the Gambia national anthem is the best
Very informative
Ok thanks you great video
Thank you
Beautiful 🎉
It would be nice if this song was translated into every African language.
Definitely
Simudzai merdu we Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 is change them national anthem
I always felt and still believe that things went sour for Zimbabwe after the death of the first lady Sally Hayfron Mugabe.
As a South African, I feel _no_ pride for Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika. How can you be proud of an anthem that you share with other countries? It broadcasts a total lack of creativity and originality to the entire world. We should've stuck to Die Stem. There is nothing political or hateful about that song. It's words sings about the beauty of the country and our dedication to it, and its melody was beautiful. Now we have this Frankenstein cut-and-paste anthem that massacre both songs.
True, that's why these other countries won't progress. They want to be South African instead of building their countries and taking pride in their identity.
🎉💪💪
It's not 'The same' song. The songs were sampled from the same song by Enoch
I like the word ZIM because I am. From zim😅😅😅
Missing ishe kombreri
Our Namibian anthem is different not like others
And as a South African i believe yours is the best...Land of the brave hits different.
Tanzania Zambia South Africa
Same national anthem
Corrections**** Namibian national anthem doesn’t sound like that.
Namibian national anthem is totally different.
but as well know Zimbabwe changed its anthem to a materpiece
what is a materpiece?
Not being disrespectful but since the Anthem is originally from South Africa doesn't that mean the other countries just did copy and paste
Basically, Yes!
That zezuru anthem sumudzai what what was forced on us.
W video
Make research listen to the national anthem of Namibia before you lie too much on the broaday light
Did you even listen to what I said? I did not say you are still using the same national anthem, the best is for you to go and research on how your national anthem came about
😢🇿🇦🇯🇴🗽
Namibia 🇳🇦 doesn't have same national anthem pls get your fact right
Did you listen to the video 😂😂😂😂🤦🏿♂️
Firstly, Sontonga was not Xhosa. He was a Mpondomise and remains so, but I can't blame you, many are misled with this mega-tribe thing because we share the same language.
It is not 'die' as in pass away, the word is the Afrikaans cognate to the English 'the' and is pronounced more like "D", the letter.
Thanks for the clarity
Lol dude did you write all of this about Sontonga not being Xhosa to sound smart?? Does it even matter? AmaMpondomise are a subgroup of the Xhosa people anyway you don’t have to be political!
Enoch Sontonga is not even Mpondomise he’s from the AmaMpinga clan in other words nguMthembu or LiHlubi.
🤦🏽♂️
@@makerkandike9810 you should tell amaMpondomise that they're a sub-group of amaXhosa then explain to us how they have their own separate kingship. I said this to assist the youtuber as he is clearly Zimbabwean and can do with some facts. You might also want to stop being ignorant and investigate my comment cause you sound uninformed and out of touch with the reality of isiXhosa SPEAKING peoples.
@@siyabongamviko8872 wtf that’s the most absurd thing I’ve heard in a long time!🤣
You think I’m ignorant and misinformed? That’s so rich coming from you with your above comments are you even Xhosa? 🤦🏽♂️
Allow me to school you a little, first of all I’m not ignorant nor misinformed.
Secondly, Enoch Sontongonga ngu Mpinga uMthembu, he was born in Uitenhage far far away from AmaMpondomise.
Thirdly my mother is Mpondomise oJola, they do regard themselves as AmaXhosa.
Also, just because AmaMpondomise have their own Kingship doesn’t mean they’re not a subgroup yamaXhosa. AmaMpondomise a subgroup of the Xhosa people just like Mfengu, Mpondo, Thembu, Xesibe etc.
Get your facts straight!
So uncalled for, this was written in IsiXhosa after all not in mpondomise,if there us even such.
South Africa just copy Tanzania with Zambia national anthem
Your knowledge of history is poor and misleading. There was no such thing as 'Eastern Cape Colony of South Africa' in 1873. And again it's 'Xhosa' not 'Chosa'.
Namibia does not, please stop this video sharing fake news
Did you watch the video
@@ZimTechGuy lol he clearly didn’t even bother watching. Criticise first, get the facts later. Typical UA-cam keyboard warriors. 🤦🏽♂️
@@makerkandike9810 The song was sung on the first day of Namibian Independence, and even the lyrics are still sung with the SWAPO PARTY Anthem, it is a fact and historical, that those countries share common goals in their resistance against the colonial occupation as well the racial discrimination by white minority during those years.
@@mwanykange That's history but Namibia as a country doesn't have such an anthem today.
When you don't know something please use that thing called Google do you know it mos neh. Then it will give you the information you need. Then you can confidently respond with facts neh. Coz right now ..... what you wrote hear Nahnah.......is just not ayoba.
Communist hymns are the best
That's because the other countries were not so patriotic which is why they copied South Africa's anthem. Zimbabwe had a lot of talented singers in the 1980s. Chinx had a great song (Vanhu vemu Africa) which could have been used. Even Bob Marley's Zimbabwe song could have been adopted as an anthem for a new Zimbabwe. There is no excuse for using another country's anthem other than laziness, lack of creativity, originality and patriotism. South Africans have always been patriotic and creative. Other countries, not so.
Zimbabwe changed its anthem in the nineties. I didn't they changed back to Nkosi sikelele Afrika.
I thought Zimbabwe's anthem was a remix of Bob Marley's "No woman, no cry". They would replace the main chorus with "white farmers must die, eh eh eh". I'm just joking.
Thanks for sharing 😚
@@priscaphiri5098 Thanks for the kiss I guess.

Nah man, the Anthem of Occupied Rhodesia is the same as the EU Anthem. Since the true natives to this land are Europeans.
